Plan ID: SP5-IC868-1
250 minutes, 5000 texts, 1GB data, £5/month

Not bad for a 1-month contract with a useful amount of data and no need to claim cashback. Note that after 12 months the data allowance will drop to 500MB though.

iD Mobile uses the Three network.

got one last time but it's not guaranteed £5 a month. was running out of data so I bought a £5 addon and they charged me another fiver for going over. so my first month was £15 . and that's on the £5 shockproof plan.

If you don't need accurate data allowance numbers or good customer support or buy addons or go over the monthly allowances.... then it's a good deal.

That's exactly what's happened here too. DD letter received today but NO SIM YET. I called CC and they said I could drop into a CPW shop and pick up a new SIM at a price of 5 GBP and they would credit me. Yeah right. I just asked them to send out a new one. There may be trouble ahead......
This is my second account with them. The first one went through very quickly.

I'm not sure why these guys are so highly rated.

I placed my order on 14 June. My contract was started on 15 June. The earliest I can start using the sim, should it arrive in tomorrows mid afternoon post, is tomorrow evening. That's 7 days of a 30 contract lost, nearly a quarter! And that's if it does turn up tomorrow. As this is all within their T&Cs, this appalling service was half expected.

After complaining, they've agreed to a pro rata refund for the number of days lost within the contract period. But who needs the hassle? They did manage to get something to me though. A letter to confirm my direct debit details. Bloody cheek!

Are they as good as Giff gaff??!! At the coast I couldn't get a signal with giff gaff. With a phone with an 02 sim in it was fine. Yet they are on same network. So people say this is on EE. Well wonder if its the same problem as giff gaff. Get what you pay for with some of these things.

They claimed it is not a direct debit mandate - it is a credit amount based on initial allowance - it was for a 16gb data allowance for £25. the credit allowance was 3 times that so they took out £75. I have already raised a formal complaint and am waiting for the minimum period whereby if it is not resolved it will be reported to the Ombudsman. So it is not covered by the direct debit mandate.

Giffgaff - no tie in, no lock in, no penalty, no unannounced charges - couldn't be happier. I drop in and out as I need their service. They don't have a customer service - they allow you to do it yourself, so there is no delay. Very helpful online support COMMUNITY.

Well, HUKD is a business. The turnover will be hundreds of millions of pounds per year. The founder owns Quidco and Checkoutsmart as well.

The parent company is http://pepper.com/ and they operate sites like this across the globe.

I'm guessing that they partner with companies (in this case, ID Mobile) and agree to heavily promote them in return for a preferential rate of commission.

I think the 2g may only be for voice and not internet iv'e never had any problems with 3 or ID always had a good signal may be take the plunge and give ID a ring and see what they say.

Shockproof is stopping you going over your allowance its fixed at £5 so you can only go over by £5 then they will cut you off till your next allowance is due.
Not all ID plans have the shockproof and when people go over there allowance they have to pay extra.

DO NOT GET FOOLED BY GOOD LOOKING DEAL, IT'S NOT ANY GOOD !!!
I just left IDmobile after 1 year after too much hassle, coverage in London is good and that is all positive what I can say.
I went over my allowances twice, once it was 12 pounds for few minutes to UK mobiles, both happened last day before allowances refresh. I never did so in my life (except of few answered roaming calls)
Their android app shows wrong amount of free data or minutes which they will never admit.
Remaining allowances will jump up and down by 50% every other day and you end up with double bill, clever guys.
I had to take screenshots of app every day to prove it's not working well. I spent several hours on call with their unfriendly advisors, lot of promises, no solution (other than leave). Finally they admitted fault and refunded some money.
ID will not last long if they will not change the way they treat customers...
I will report them to both Ofcom and tel. ombudsman.
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED ( I was with Virgin, O2 and TalkTalk in past, never had any issues which couldn't be solved in one call)

I'm in the same position. Called them at the weekend to reduce the tariff and was told they couldn't do that yet. She said I could continue to pay my current tariff £19.50 but only get the benefits of the £5 one! You can take a new contract and cancel the old one for no cost (I think), but if you want to keep your number, you have to get your PAC, leave them for 48 hours and then re-join with a new PAC provided by the new company. I got my PAC and will be moving. Signal was shocking at home anyway.

I phoned VirginMobile to leave on Friday as this deal is better and my son wants more data, but VM then matched the iD price (and you get unlimited texts, as if 5,000/m is not enough)

A bit more annoying is that he started with the £5 package which gave 250MB. A month or so I got a mail saying it was going up to £5.24. I noticed they'd started 500MB for the same price so I asked to move over. Talking to retentions they say only the original 250MB for £5/m is going up to £5.24 and not the 500Mb for £5/m which is not changing. Go figure! The people who don't ask to go to the 500MB package get stuffed.

My 12 month contract with ID has just expired, i called them up to move to another tarifff to be told that they werent able to do this. If i wanted to move to another tariff i had to leave them and then apply to join again (post credit check). Ive not had a bad experience with them for the past year so would stay with them but there systems and service could def do with some improving. I take it i can just get a PAC code from them and then just sign up for this deal (with the same company!)?

I haven't used iD but I have read that when you hit your data limit for the first time they will immediately take a £75 "buffer" from your bank account which sits in your iD account as a positive balance in case you do it again. This might be independant of ShockProof.
nanuek
13 Jun 16 #152
If the 4G isn't required then Life Mobile might be a viable alternative for those keen to avoid iD or 3's network. Currently £5.95 via uSwitch for a similar deal (4x the minutes).

It uses the EE network, allows tethering and has "Smart Cap" which seems a lot like the "ShockProof" feature of iD. Main downside I have found is that there seem to be no way of checking allowance usage without logging into their website or phoning CS. They also block all Short Code numbers which may be a bane or a blessing.
chocci
13 Jun 16 #151
What nonsense! They have a cap.

Capped
If you like the idea of more control over your monthly mobile plans, then you’ll want to put a limit on what you spend…

Every ShockProof plan comes with a small ‘cap’ on your calls, texts and data, so you’ll never be able to go over your limit by more than a fiver!

You can then easily view how much you've used at any time of the month, by logging in to your iD account or the iD App.

So rather than feeling shocked each month, you’ll feel in control.

I'm thinking of joining ID. My Vodafone contract ends on the 22nd June. I got my PAC code from them a few days ago. Do you know when I should buy the ID sim? as in now or wait till after the 22nd June?

13 Jun 16 #148
As a bit of balance I moved to them no problems as seemed silly to be paying £23 a month for my unlimited T-Mobile contract when I wasn't using much and EEs prices are rubbish.

I've had no problems since. CS were good when I asked them a question.

Only annoying thing is you can't change plans without porting your number out and back in again.

fiqqer
13 Jun 16 #145
Contact them straight away and tell them you don't want to renew. They require 30 days notice so they will automatically take out a months payment whether you intended to use them for only a month or not. Block direct payments from your bank account before you do this, because they will take out as much as they can from your bank account as they can once they know you are going - they automatically create a £75 buffer so they will try to take that out when you cancel.
fiqqer
13 Jun 16 #144
My advice is DON'T DO IT. They will allow you to go just over your 1gb data limit and then block it, but charge you £75 for going over by a few MB. It appears a good deal, but they will rip you off the moment they have your credit card details.

Use GiffGaff so that you don't have to worry about the company automatically taking payments direct from your bank account.

Thought I'd update this if it might help anyone, regarding getting stuck on the payment page. I'd never got past the problem, phoned them up, couldn't take out the deal over the phone as it was web-only (despite the site not working). Tried again a few times, same problem. Then I noticed that on an earlier page where you enter your address, I'd put my house number and postcode, selected the address for it to pre-fill the details. However, it didn't fill in the county - and that was marked as mandatory. The site still allows you to continue even though you leave that blank, but maybe that was the problem with my order not getting past the payment page. When I tried again (for about the 20th time), and filled in the county maually, I did manage to complete the order.

That's the best decision you'll ever make - I just changed back to THREE with the same deal - iD are fast becoming the dodgy dealers of the Telecoms business and many complaints on this website and on the s21 Reviews Pages, are a clear indication that all is not well, and the desire for "a fast buck" is the primary objective of their business model.

Have to agree, I work all over West Yorkshire, Some of south and North and a but of Lancs too and I can count the areas I have no signal or Voice only on one hand - same can't be said for o2, Vodafone or EE in my experience.
dannyhumphreys
6 May 16 #133
Yeah I know no network is perfect. I experience the same things on EE like you mentioned but I just had to experience that more on Three and Three could've sorted their major coverage out in the early days with the others. As I've always said Three were too late to the whole game. You do need 2G tho because it is the strongest out of all. 3G has gotten stronger as well. It's only my point of view. You could see Three a different network  many people have told me to stay clear and on their FB. I was with them last year for a few years.
qwerta369
6 May 16 #132
Three are the youngest UK mobile network and launched on 03/03/2003 as a 3G only network. At that time, Orange, T-Mobile O2 and Vodafone had established 2G networks and were also rolling out 3G. As Three's coverage was patchy, they contracted with O2 for Three customers to auto-roam on to O2's 2G network when no Three 3G coverage was available (agreement with O2 later ended and a similar contract with Orange replaced it).

The other networks didn't need to have agreements with a third party network to provide 2G services to their customers, because the other networks already had established 2G networks. Only Three didn't have a 2G network, so only Three needed to provide their customers with 2G services from another network.

Hope you follow me. Anyway, it seem you don't like Three and your mind is made up. That's fine, it's your right. Coverage on any network differs all over the country. They'll be places where one or more networks are vastly better than others, but then the opposite is true a few miles down the road. For example, I now live in rural Yorkshire and I've been on Three for a couple years here. Solid 4G signal and download speed usually 30mbps and more. Previously I was on EE and, while signal was usually good, I had dropouts and missed calls regularly. When I switched to Three, all those problems stopped. Sometimes I visit the West coast of North Wales and no signal other than O2 can be had. It's just the way things are, currently.
dannyhumphreys
6 May 16 #131
Well who actually likes Three? They're pretty damn awful. And I meant about their own coverage and had to use some partners for 2G. Really shows what they are. There's better 3G networks out there for better coverage. Three haven't got it all, just yet. Their makeitright campaign is a joke and total lie. They need to start making it right, otherwise they're going back to a low customer base, which they already have done.

What bit is too difficult for you to understand eh! 3 were having issues with their network, my phone dropped down to a 2g network with no data - 2g cannot do voice and data at the same time, it works like dial up modems used to and uses your 'line' to access data.

You talk on here like you think you know what you're on about I know nothing yet I have experience it on the 3 network on a phone supplied by 3 - a HTC One M7!

I'm also still on the One Plan with unlimited tethering, bet you'll claim that's impossible too....

Muppet!
dannyhumphreys
5 May 16 #123
Why did they change for? Lol. Three can bearly manage their own network, let alone go and seek others out there and just use it. Wasn't it for to start the UK up with 3G or something?
qwerta369
5 May 16 #122
That's not quite right. Initially, Three had a 2G roaming agreement with only O2. They change to Orange much later.
dannyhumphreys
5 May 16 #121
Yep, EXACTLY!
dannyhumphreys
5 May 16 #120
What are you talking about Brook? Three only started with a 3G network. During the start they used to roam on Orange and O2's 2G. But it's all stopped now! You might get it but not in most of the country anymore. So I don't know what you mean, because switching data off on Three uses it's voice on 3G lol... Voice came before Data on 2G and 3G then 4G came with data. I hope you know that right?!

I can tether in Three Payg, every now and again I test it with iPad and laptop to check it will still work.
Yes I know that it's against Ts&Cs but as I've said, looks like it's not enforced since you have to pay for every extra MB data at 1p/MB anyway.
So putting a contract SIM in would make my phone that bit less flexible, why have a hotspot function if you can't use it?
brookysm
5 May 16 #113
You can't on 3/with payg but you can have a tethering limit of a few GB with contract sims which are available on a rolling month basis.

Correct it won't, however 3g phones using 3 network can default to 2g if they need to.

5 May 16 #111
I need _occasional_ tethering when working away from office. Can do this on simple Three PAYG (even if not officially allowed) as it looks like Three (and probably iD) only do packet inspection or something to firmly block non-allowed tethering on pay month/pay in advance deals.
The availability of a tethering allowance and very, very simple purchase of tethering bolt-ons would stop that being a deal-breaker.

Yeah, it's 2TB, if you go to three.ie and scroll down a little you'll see:

"Top-up €20 and get:

All You Can Eat Data
Unlimited Any Network Texts
Unlimited Any Network Weekend Calls
Free Three to Three Calls"

I think 60GB usage is their mobile broadband offering.

If ID MOBILE is any part of Three I would advise anyone to steer well clear. I was with three on a sim only deal and got a text one day to say "we've updated your address and a new sim is on the way". I never even made this action. So I called three and asked what happened and they said someone rang up changed my address on file and requested a new sim. I asked them to tell me what the new address was and they refused to disclose it! Completely unacceptable that a company could allow a fraudster to bypass their security so easily and request a new sim, yet when the genuine account holder asks a question they refuse to answer due to "data protection".

They made a load of empty promises but they completely lost my trust when this happened so I will never go back to three.

I'm currently with Vodafone who are abysmal and have been voted the worst service provider for past 4 years? In a row. Steer well WELL clear of Vodafone.
Astec123
4 May 16 #99
You sure about that? I only see a 60gb usage limit for their current 'unlimited offering' for €20.

I presume you're on a grandfather tariff to get that and if so I would be doing everything to keep the deal as long as you can. If it's anything like the way Three usually work in Ireland, they normally mirror 'features' and 'services' rolled out in the UK market a little while after the UK variant has settled in. So if that's the case you'll be losing that AYCE in the future. But at least you might be getting this soon.

http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/get-200mb-data-every-month-three-data-reward-sim-preloaded-with-1gb-data-for-30-2389290

Also those out of bundle rates are not scary, that's extortion! It's pretty much buy a bundle or we will cripple you with costs and having no money.

4 May 16 #88
Wouldn't touch, uses Three and they have a shocking reputation of a company! You'd be lucky to get anything half decent from them anymore than what they used to be like and the network is weak almost everywhere and no 2G. Remember you're get no service. Even in the back room! Who remembers these painful times with Three! That still goes on! It's only great in cities tho! Even better today! Amazing!
brookysm to dannyhumphreys
4 May 16 #98
WRONG! 3 can use 2g, it will fall back onto the o2 network if it has to, had a fault with the mast where I used to live and and my phone defaulted to 2g.

4 May 16 #97
Thanks a lot for the detailed reply, much appreciated! Unfortunately those are too dear me as I can get free calls, texts and 2TB of 4G data on Three for €20 a month here, and yes I did mean TB and not GB.

This deal looks good to me because I am very rarely out of WiFi and when I am I tend to just send WhatsApp messages or the odd SnapChat. Three Éire's out of bundle rates are scary €1.01 per MB so credit gets eaten very fast if not topped up and on an offer.

Got several phones from them on 24-months contracts over the years, last used them for cashback claim in mid-2015. Never any bother, I always claimed online, never by post. After submitting a claim would normally get acknowledgment email, then the cashback cheque would follow in 3-4 weeks by post. The last time they even sent me the claims schedule! All I had to do is create diary alerts for myself when each claim was due. Then submittted online and waited for the cheque. Was that simple. The only issue for me was that their phones were never factory sealed; they claimed that they had to open them for spotchecking, i.e. to QA the manufacturer! Aye right! But with SIM only you should be OK, go for it and save yourself a packet, as long as you don't forget to claim on time.

You wouldn't likely get approved for any iD UK options because they are contracts and will require a credit check against a UK credit reference agency. We don't get the PAYG option. So unless you have a credit file in the UK that they would accept you won't get anywhere.

As a result you could consider the 3 pay as you go sims (as it's really easy to top them up from Ireland) and then you can use the free roaming facility to use the data at home. £10 (€12.60) gets you 1gb or £20 (€25.40) gets you 12gb to use.

http://www.three.co.uk/Store/SIM/Pay_As_You_Go

However, I do like that the Irish version lets you customise your deal to suit you. I wish more networks here would do that.

I've had two contracts with ID Mobile (one for mobile broadband). Both of them were over-billed (meaning I paid too much) and cancelling them at the end of the contract period was an absolute nightmare. It was so bad that I wrote to Watchdog and considered court action.

Here's a fun fact, also: they start your contract from the date that they ship your SIM card, not from the date you actually receive or activate the SIM. This means that you're paying for your contract while your SIM card's still in the post.

It also means that their "30-day contracts" are totally misleading. I bought a 30-day mobile broadband package, which I only needed to use for one month. So as soon as I placed my order, I phoned up to give my 30 days' notice of cancellation, so that I would only pay for - you guessed it - 30 days. But because the SIM card was still in the post, they claimed that I couldn't cancel yet, and so I was shoe-horned into cancelling a few days later, which meant that I now had to pay for the next months' 30 days as well. Cue a massive battle to point out the stupidity/injustice of their system, and nobody cares.

Whatever you say, they're a joke. Truly a joke.

What a load of rubbish i have now been with then since January not had one problem the 4g is get and my bills have all been fine its also been said they cap the speed of the network but that rubbish two my wife and my son are on three network and the speeds are the same as ID.
Some one said they spoke to carphonewarehouse seller and he said they stopped using 3 because they were getting to many complains that was rubbish to it was Three that let cpw go because they wasn't selling making any money form them and other company's because three deals was so cheap compared to other networks so in the end Three was not doing any deals with anybody
I think half of the people on here who are knocking ID have not even been with them they just like to run things down like they do on other threads on hotuk.
If you put a deal on here from EE, O2, vodafone, they will all be crap so where do you go?

ID Mobile is an abominable network. Their customer service is utterly non-existent. By far the worst consumer experience I've had by a huge margin.

If you use this network, you will encounter problems and you'll see first-hand how awful the service is. Also expect to be double or triple billed for no reason at all.

Not sure if you are aware but judging by your last 5 comments it seems like you might not be. You can reply in a single comment to multiple different people and they will still get the notification. It's much tidier and it also means that people subscribed to the thread don't get endless notifications that there have been 5 comments when there really is only one spread across 5 posts.

To do this, simply click the reply option for the first comment you want to reply to, type what you want after the quoted bits and then move to the next comment and hit the 'reply' button again to reply to that next comment. It works a bit like this.

My reply

My second reply. This works fine for replying to multiple people without the need to use 5 different comments.

You can even do this manually by just typing the quote text in square brackets on your keyboard. You can use this to split down another persons comment into separate parts to reply to each individually.

Have used them for 3-4 months after moving from EE and no major problems. The speed is slower than EE's 4g network but I wouldn't say there is a huge difference. Haven't had to deal with customer service yet but I've had a poor experience with every network I've tried over the years

Apologies, got confused with the following:
"There is no cashback on any other categories (including SIM Only, Handset Only, Tablets and MiFi) unless stated otherwise."
...but as you say, it does state otherwise so should apply.

Been trying all week to take this out, can't get past the payment page. No error message, just blanks a few characters of the card details. Tried various computers, browsers, same everywhere. Called them today and was told the site is undergoing maintenance all week, and to try next week. What a joke!
BTW, don't bother going instore to CPW as this is a web only tariff.
BTW2, Topcashback is not offered on the sim-only tariffs.

TCB cashback £5.25 on 1-month SIM-only when I checked just now.

got one last time but it's not guaranteed £5 a month. was running out of data so I bought a £5 addon and they charged me another fiver for going over. so my first month was £15 . and that's on the £5 shockproof plan.

I think data rollover only applies to their "GoTo" plans (so not this deal): https://www.idmobile.co.uk/datarollover

It looks like the cheapest GoTo plan (500mins/5000SMS/1GB) costs £7/month: https://www.idmobile.co.uk/shop/plans/sim-only#tariff_network_promotion=GoTo&sort=monthlycost-asc

Forget the tethering bit just seen they do not allow it.

Is the data speed as good as EE keep banging on about? Can one use tethering as I am not overly
impressed using GiffGaff for mobile data.

Must admit i have been waiting 3mths now and still not received any cashback from topcashback
Apart from that i can't fault them at the moment been really good custom service as been fine were i live must be all the big city's where the problems are.
