I recently purchased the 20-LED version, works great above our front door.
I found that I had to open the back cover and press the battery back into the holder;
Not sure if that was due to a rough delivery driver or by default to prevent it operating whilst in the packaging.

This ones been good, i've had it over 12 months now.
I would imagine that if you don't put these where they get direct sunlight, they're not going to be able to operate for nearly as long as they otherwise might.

Potentially nutty question - but can you charge the batteries if you live somewhere with no sun, like Scotland?

Just standard rechargeable AA batteries usually so no problem. Takes very little light to charge though. works on sun rather than heat so they are ok even in UK winter.

These are excellent, if you're just wanting the movement sensor mode, mine isn't in direct sunlight and its fine. Very bright.

Yep that should be OK in shady conditions, assuming the motion sensor isn't continually triggered.

I have these. Great quality for price. Plenty bright little bit of sun we have had is no problem for them to work all night. My cats light up the garden when they walk past anywhere near them.

Whilst this is slightly expensive it is very bright and requires no maintenance, try something like a 400 lumens solar light for a £25
