So you would also be avoiding Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, India, China incl Hong Kong, Nepal, South Korea, Mauritius, Sri Lanka, Macau, Taiwan, Israel, Thailand, Bhutan, Maldives, Cambodia .... and given the technological developments, "the space". Something tells me you won't be missed in these areas.

Great deal, just booked it from Newcastle for £247 each for 2 weeks for 24 hr all inclusive. Ok ok the extra protection has set me back a few more quid but what price would you pay for peace & relaxation, yes 'peace' and total 'relaxation'. Now we have nothing to worry about except maybe the odd rogue corrupt cop but this is life.

Do people not realise how far away some places in Turkey are from syria? I'm sure people are still willing to go Cyprus or Greece! We are fully taking advantage of the cheap deals to turkey this year however it won't be with Thomas cook. We went away with them before all inclusive only to find out when we got to the hotel it wasn't all inclusive, after emails, phone calls (the rep never turned up) they didn't care and we just had to pay to eat out every day! Never did the offer to refund any of our costs. Awful travel agent.

We went to this hotel last year, just a few weeks after it opened. At the time it was supposed to be 5 star - to be honest, it was not a 5 star (maybe 4) but we found it to be really good. Its a couple of km from Icmeler and about 4 from Marmaris on the sea front. Quite often had a walk in the evening to Icmeler to a bar and never had any issues, locals friendly and chatty. Hotel was lush, staff still learning their trade but keen to help. 24/7 food and drink, several bars, couple of beach bars in the process of been fitted out while we were there. Room we had was huge, nice sea view (and pool view of one of the several pools), beach isnt great but the hotel has direct access to it. The path that runs from Marmaris to Icemeler passes through the grounds but there were several security guards monitoring the accesses to the hotel. I type this from a hotel in Antalya - been here a week - again, not seen or heard of any trouble, locals friendly and chatty. Yes, the primary religion here is Muslim but 99.9% of Muslims dont carry suicide bombs, they just want to live their life as well as the next man.

The world would be a much more dangerous place if 0.1% did carry bombs! I don't think there are approximately 17 million muslims carrying suicide bombs right now...

you should more than enjoy turkey at the min as all the rude, obnoxious, Ill mannered Russians are here in Cyprus! I could have booked Turkey for a quarter of the price, we loved Side but just can't take the risk with the kids. It's sad because the likes of Turkey, Egypt, Tunisia etc rely so heavily on tourism. and these extremists know that taking out a few innocent tourists on a beach with an AK47 will hit global headlines and destroy the economy. Even with the beefed up security in the resorts and around, it just takes 1 nutter on a jetski. The scariest part is, we have no idea how many of these poor displaced people from Syria are actually wolf in sheep's clothing

Unfortunately now days no where is 100% safe to travel. You only have to look at what's been happening in Belgium and France to see that, but there is a reason these deals are cheaper than the rest. I suppose people in Sharm were saying similar things. "5 star luxury for a fraction of the cost". Most up ended up getting stranded, but nothing compared to those on that Russian Metrojet plane. People putting their families lives at risk for a cheap suntan.

Went to Side last summer, and stayed at the Crystal Sunset Resort. didn't have a very good time. The Turks really spoilt the holiday for me. A handful of them were great, but mostly I found them to be very pushy, and would think nothing of grabbing you buy the arm and pulling you towards their shop. I also sensed that they really don't like English. One shop keeper refused to serve my father in law after asking if he was English. Might be different in different parts of Turkey, but in Side they aren't very nice.

The facts are that a holiday maker has more chance of being murdered in a Muslim country than in any other religious state. The most menacing thought is that these Islamic terrorists are totally indiscriminate as they walk along the beach firing automatic assault rifles or mowing down tourists as they alight coaches....... Only the facts.

No stats needed, it's common sense.
A large proportion of people from Islamic countries detest western society and everything it stands for. (That is, if they follow their religious book which most do)
If you are a Kufar in an Islamic country then you are a target I'm afraid. That doesn't mean everyone going to Turkey will get killed..of course not. But you've got a LOT more chance coming to harm in an Islamic holiday resort than you have in say the Canary Islands or Cyprus.

Ok...I can see you're struggling with this.
Let's make this simpler.
How many tourists have been mown down with gunfire on beaches in non muslim countries? Now compare that to those which happened in muslim countries.
Now you see where I'm coming from.
The facts are there...and it's pretty much basic common sense.
spenspuma
13 Apr 16#52
Nowt to do with me if Muslims have mown down holidaymakers in a Muslim country but never in Spain or Cyprus.
It's basic facts and pure common sense that you're more likely to come to harm in a Muslim country.
Why on earth do you think they tell you not to venture out the resort in Egypt and Tunisia? And that when you go on certain coach trips there you have to be escorted by armed units? It's not for show you know, it's because it is unsafe to be in that country as a Kufar unless you are either under armed guard or within the confines of the hotel/resort.
That tells you ALL you need to know about what muslims in those countries think of westerners.
