I just logged onto my OneDrive account to check my storage and was about to upgrade as I was near my limit. On the page I spotted an offer for 1 year free Office 365 with 1TB OneDrive storage. Offer terms are:

Offer valid for a free one year subscription of Office 365 Personal. Must redeem by August 15th, 2016. Payment instrument required and will be automatically charged the then-current subscription price after one year unless you cancel your subscription at www.office.com/myaccount. Valid only if you are an original recipient of this offer; are a OneDrive free plan subscriber without an existing paid OneDrive, Office 365 or Groove Music subscription, have over 5 GB of content stored on OneDrive and are not already using more than your storage allotment as of January 15th, 2016. Offer must be redeemed via the Microsoft Store online. Limit of one per person/Microsoft account; must use the account associated with your OneDrive subscription. May not be redeemed by or transferred to another customer, or combined with other offers. Violation of these terms may result in cancellation of your Office 365 subscription. Not valid on prior orders or purchases; may not be redeemed for cash or gift cards. Offer not valid in Japan, China, Hong Kong and countries where Office 365 Personal and/or OneDrive is not available. Microsoft reserves the right to modify or discontinue the offer at any time.

So it seems like you can't hold an existing subscription and have 5GB of data stored on OneDrive. Card details are taken, I assume this is for the following year. A few clicks and it is all activated.

To get to it - I logged into onedrive.com > bottom left 'Upgrade' > If eligible you should see the offer on that page.

Yeah! I logged in, pretended I wanted to upgrade, and there was the offer! Not advertised or promoted at all!

p.p.s Office.com/myaccount to unsubscribe apparently, presumably can be done immediately so you dont forget in 354 days time (not tried yet though)

I've put a reminder in my Google Calendar - though even if I pay full price next year, it's like 2 years at half price. £30 per year for a full office subscription with 1TB cloud storage is still very cheap.

Thanks, the offer was in my drive as well, Paypal option selected but I expect I will be able to bag a home licence in the next year for a good price.

You will always get the latest version of office when it is released. So let's sat a new major version is released next month, you would get the latest version to download under the subscription.

It's a good question. For someone totally happy with Office 2010 (actually 2011 on OSX) I'm not compelled to upgrade - even for free! :smiley:

Hmm and what benefits exactly new version will give to an average home user? More new fonts? Even more stupid menu and all icons moved around to **** you off even more?

Unfortunately my crystal ball is off for repair so I couldn't tell you right now. You do also get the cloud storage.

Google Drive is around £7 a month for 1TB storage. Even if you pay full price for this, it's £5 a month.

If you don't want to pay for Office, feel free to use Open Office.

You mention renew, does that mean you are an existing subscriber? If so, you don't qualify unfortunately.

Just logged into my OneDrive and sure enough the offer is there for me. Might defer this until closer to the offer expiry date since I still have 9GB of available storage remaining.

Missed the chance to save my 15GB free space so my quota went down to 5GB. Spoke to Microsoft who said tough luck. Took advantage of this mostly for the Office 365 when posted before.

Most people in industry thinking Microsoft will ditch the free element of Onedrive and make it a paywall only affair.

Lol I'm still happily running Office 2000, if you are only using word and excel for fairly basic stuff there isnt much point in upgrading. The free converters allow you to open docx and xlsx files too.

May be you should switch to Libreoffice. Its free. And powerful enough for the usual stuff. I use it for my homework. And it works fine.

I had an email about this yesterday from Microsoft. Basically they are getting rid of some of the free storage (you used to get 15GB for linking your phone I believe) and in place of that they are doing this offer.

I uploaded 11GB over 2 days ago and nothing. I click on the upgrade tab and no offers of any kind.

A bit annoying as my office license is going to expire this month and getting a year for free would be cool.

enragedbeard - that sucks! I have the 15GB free plus the 15GB camera roll bonus! So they are going to strip that 30GB down to 5GB in total?? :neutral_face:

If you don't get the upgrade, then I've got a licence for sale (came with my Lumia 950 - but I already have 2.5years of Office on my account).
I'd take whatever they go for on Ebay less 10%

& yes, they will strip away all the extra storage. Really backwards decision - but I guess exponential storage growth is pretty difficult to manage...even for a company as big as MS.

Office 365 works on phone, tablet and computer. It also gives 1TB of storage which can then be accessed from pretty much any computer/laptop/phone. Add in 60 Skype World minutes per month. Oh, and modern versions of Office are so much easier and more elegant to use. The universal search box on 2016 alone is worth the £60 per year. I no longer have to go foraging through menus. I just type what it is I want to do - and the option is given to me.

By all means stick with your old copy of Office on your solitary computer....but don't kid yourself into thinking that what is on offer is not worth the £60 per year price of entry.

So you aren't paying anywhere near £60 a year! Hardly one to lecture others on what good value it is at £60 when you didn't pay anywhere near that yourself?

I have no problems with the price of 365. But this is HUKD...and I'm not just going to give away money needlessly.

Your Clueso work doesn't change the validity of anything I said. £60 per year is excellent value for what's being offered - IF you use all the things on offer.

You're not as smart as you think you are.
As I said on that very quote, I will take the lowest price on Ebay...less 10%. & I only have one licence code as I only have one Lumia 950.
Also, I am very well placed to talk about the merits or otherwise of Office 365. I would happily pay the £60 a year having used Office 2016, and having more than half a TB of data stored on OneDrive. The fact I paid far less than that really is irrelevant....after all, I will have to pay the higher price when my current subscription ends because that is the nature of the beast.
One question for you - have you ever used Office 365?!

That doesn't answer whether or not you have used Office 365.
Assuming you haven't used it, then you certainly aren't one to be criticising me for giving my opinion on the merits of the service.
Also, selling a licence for 10% less than the lowest price on Ebay is a pretty fair deal - not that I'd sell it to you of course :wink:
