Me and my wife both have one of these, the last update caused this problem, she immediately did a factory reset and it fixed it, i held off for a month just restarting the phone when the ringer failed, eventually i factory reset mine as well.
Both now have the problem fixed for 6 weeks+ each just by this factory reset. People don't seem to be prepared to do the backup and reset that's why its an ongoing problem

I had a bad experience with this phone
Unlocked it (as most would) which voids the warranty. Screen broken (phantom key presses) Vodaphone refused to fix. Can't really find anywhere that fixes it.

I don't think a SIM unlock would void the warranty Rooting might do.

17 Mar 161#14
If the screen isn't cracked then they should accept a return by law, despite it being unlocked.
If you told them it was unlocked when you went to the store asking for a repair then that was quite a silly thing to do.

I have the phone and it's working pretty well. One annoyance is that the BT when attached to my car sounds like a robot for a couple of seconds every minute. This isn't signal issues as have tested stationary and with a different phone in the same locations.
Not sure if the issue is with the version of android as dont have a like for like OS on another phone to test but have tested with 2 SU6's

Got this last time it was 100quid, excellent phone for money, can handle at least 20 decent apps, very good quality, only quarm is a slow keyboard, not as responsive as high end phones.

Google Keyboard or SwiftKey will sort that out for you mate.

What do you mean can handle 20 decent apps? Running at the same time? Doubt it. The low memory killer would have taken effect by 5/6 I think. Unless you mean installed. You can install more.

If you have talktalk sim, you do not need to unlock the phone. Bad camera in low light, that's the only downside we've found so far.

Of course they'd say that.
They can't legally refuse a return if it's unlocked. FACT!
To be totally honest, more fool you for telling them.
Try a different store for a return. And for the love of all that is holy, say "no" if they ask if it's unlocked. They're highly unlikely to check anyway.

I posted this over on the Digital Spy Mobile Phones forums a few days ago to help someone else decide whether the Smart Ultra 6 is right for them:
Advantages of the SU6 over the P8 Lite:
Better screen with a much higher resolution/pixel density
Larger screen, if you're into phablet type phones
Faster chipset (CPU+GPU)
Stock Android
Larger battery
Advantages of the P8 Lite over the SU6:
Smaller screen so more suited for one handed use
Much better looking
Significantly better camera in low light conditions
Added Emotion UI features such as gesture support which are not found in the near-stock SU6
User interface looks remarkably like iOS (this could either be an advantage or a disadvantage depending on preference)

Bought it directly from vodafone shop, asked me to buy it with card but I said I can buy it right away without sim and collect it from them so they accept it. Great phone for the money. It's my first phone of this size and I like it a lot. The only problem for me is the battery. After charge to 100% it goes to 97% for 5 minutes without using it. Then it drains it slower, but still much faster than my old xperia phone

Got an su6 and honestly it's been nothing but problems. The latest is that the messaging app which I've set to messages not hangouts or messanger but messages (not the Vodafone one) I don't get the unread messages badge count on the icon. I do for missed calls fb email but not for messages. When I then go into messages it shows them all as already read and doesn't highlight which ones are new.
Can anyone help.
Texting is my main way of communication and it's really annoying me.

Unread badges appear fine on mine.
I use the Messenger app (not Messaging or Message+).
In case you like the way my phone is laid out, I use Nova Launcher Prime with the TeslaUnread plugin and the Elta icon pack.
This is the Messenger app which works fine with Nova and the TeslaUnread unread badges:

strange. i've tried sending myself test texts and sometimes it works and shows badge count but other times not, cant work it out.
i'm currently using zen ui launcher though had been using nova on another device and still torn between using it or zen ui on su6
whats TeslaUnread plugin?
preecey to little_green

It's the additional app you need alongside Nova to make the unread badges show up.
ah. well i'm using zen ui launcher and at a loss.
shows a notification in the notification bar that i have an unread text but not on the actual icon no badge. its really frustrating me. did have it working for a bit have no idea how i made it work aside texting myself from a spare number multiple times. but now it's back to not working.
any suggestions?
and as i say when i then click on messages and it shows me my list of threads its not hightlighting which is new.
i have no idea what to try to make it work
now when I get a phone call it doesnt show the full screen option to answer it just lists it in with all my other notification. wtf is with that!? how do i change it.
seriously hating on the su6 right now.
all these things are basic funtions on other phones why isnt it working for me on the su6? i#ve not really done anything bar adding a launcher
