Great deal for electric shower.
i suggest NOT going for electric, rather get a boiler fed mixer shower.
if you do decide to go electric this is cheap.
just ensure your wiring can cope with 8.5kw

Where do you live mate .
Iv been using 8.5 mira for 4 years plus , it gives perfectly adequate flow at reasonable heat .

With that setup, you will if your water supply fails.

The combi boiler replaced the immersion heater, and I'm not sitting in a tin bath in front of the coal fire topping up with a kettle :stuck_out_tongue:

Good point! I've had a combi boiler for so long I'd forgotten about such things....

That's what the kettle's for.

you may not appreciate electric shower until you find your boiler broke down around winter time

Yep, I'd prefer a bit of redundancy when it comes to getting clean.

Sorry meant the rcd is in supply coming from fuse box , which then goes to switch
this is other side of aquapanel /tiled division
ie , not in the bathroom

We have rcd switch for supply a foot from shower, as well as circuit breaker ( on main fuse panel downstairs)

Are you sure about that? A non-pull switch, let alone an RCD which is not supposed to be used as a manual switch, a foot from a shower would result in a sharp intake of breath from an electriian!

The flow rate is not wholly governed by the Kw rating. Water pressure is also a factor, so if your mains pressure is poor the water will trickle out of an electric shower. This shower has water and cable entry points in multiple locations, so if replacing an old electric shower it should suit existing connections. Looks like a good buy for a known brand.

yes and no, our main pressure is good.
if you just want a cold shower that is enough kw (no water is heated, near enough mains flow rate) and if you want a decent heated flow rate shower then its not (more problem in winter).

I recckon your mains supply will have to be chronic to be insufficient to supply an 8.5kW shower. Of course using water elsewhere in the property can also have an effect.

On right lines but the equation is Current (in amps)= Power in Watts divided by voltage in Volts, so it is 8500/240=35 amps. A 9.5kW shower will require a 40 amp RCD or fuse/breaker. You may also need to upgrade your electrical cable to carry more current if fitting a 9.5kW or 10.5kW models otherwise it may keep tripping when used on full power or even cause a smaller sized cable to overheat and result in fire.. Having fitted a similar model recently I found the riser rail to be badly designed and cannot be secured firmly to the wall.

My breaker is actually 32, for 8.5 version

240v divided by kW = ampage
30amp should be OK
I'm not a electrician so don't rely on me.

Am I right in thinking you'd need a minimum 40amp rated supply for either the 8.5kW or 9.5kW?
That's more than needed for an electric cooker (usually 30amp).

We had one of these types of things when I was a student. I'm sure I could urinate harder and warmer than what it could put out. Why they still make these things is beyond me.

8.5kW would give a rubbish trickle of a shower in the depths of winter!

Yeah, I can't imagine an 8.5kw is worth the effort in the depths of a cold winter, unless you like being spat at by a thirsty dingo in the outback...

good price but i don't think 8.5kw can give me good enough water flow rate.
i'll probably buy if its 9.5kw.
