Wifi extenders that use wds tech like this unit can halve bandwidth.
Wireless access points that are typically in a router do not.
The wifi power line units are access points.
To use an wireless modem router and convert it to an acess point ..
1 conect it either via a powerline bridge or a cat5e cable.
2. on the old router..
a) turn off the dhcp server (turning it into client mode)
b) set the ssid, ssid pw and the encryption to the same
c) set the wireless channel to a different channel to the the main router.
your old modem router is now a wireless access point ..

That's what I thought. The purely WiFi extenders decrease your throughput by about 50%
I have a set of powerline units, and a spare Netgear Router. Wonder if I married them up, it would do almost the same.
On 2nd thoughts, it would not be seamless, as I would have to switch to the 2nd router,

Powerline almost 100% no loss of signal, not this range extender very poor

Correct me if I am wrong, but don't the wifi extenders halve your bandwidth?
I like the idea of the powerline/wifi extender but wondered if this is also the case.

i am already using its dual band version. I found it quite good and i am getting signal coverage to end of my garden.

I agree they are rubbish not worth £1.50. They repeat the signal yes. but very weak.
As above buy the wifi Homeplug/powerline type
TP link Powerline
around £33
good deal, but these things are useless. They have to be in range of your existing WiFi and they repeat the signal. Far better off using Powerline with a WiFi Powerline adapter where you need the coverage.
