Found this earlier whilst looking for a replacement for my Sky Hub router that has better Wifi performance, and it seems to be a good price for an AC 750 router with built in modem and a range of other useful features (USB port, VPN support etc). £39.99 on Amazon and the Currys/PC World sites, so seems a decent saving.
This is an ADSL router so it will work out of the box with Standard ADSL (non fibre) broadband, without requiring another modem plugged into it. I believe it will also work with VDSL (fibre) but you'd need to connect an external modem (i.e. BT Openreach) to the WAN port. You could probably also use it as just a wifi access point if you wanted to let your ISP modem/router do all the main work, but leave the wifi signal to this router.
Downsides... The USB port is only 2.0 not 3.0. Lan ports are only 10/100 rather than gigabit, but beyond that I can't see anything else near £30 that offers significantly more useful features. For me these aren't dealbreakers as the USB would only be used to share a printer, and our 17mb adsl isn't going to be wasted with megabit lan ports.

Cold in my view. If you want a better router for sky, just get the black sky router model sr102. Loads on ebay & It will be plug & play, no setup needed.

It's what I have... SR102 doesn't have great signal in certain areas of the house. It's also only single band 300mbps and has no USB port to share a printer. Thanks for the advice

The sr102, if the several I've had are typical, aren't that great, poor signal strength / attenuation.

I have the sr102 only issue I have is limited port forwarding you can only use so many before they stop working but I don't want to spend £100 on a descent router although it sits there giving me so much it's a lot of money for something you pay no attention to after setup

Sky's SR102 can't handle fibre pro speeds via wifi and max out at 44mb, that's the issue I'm having at the moment.

i thought sky fibre is limited to 38mb? the WiFi signal is pretty poor on the sky hubs tho!

It's not a bad deal. I purchased a belkin cant remember the model, as my sky sagem one was crap for wifi. Lucky i new had to extract my username and password. But the belkin died, but it was a model that unders the tc would be replaced for another. Mind i got a upgrade to n600. Lol what belkin doesnt realise, i could claim for another, as my tc are with previous model.
Sky wants to charge for a new one. But why would i pay them, for that crap they give out.
This looks great for money

Not bad for an ADSL2 modem router with dual band. If you're looking to get fibre then this modem can be used with a seperate BT VDSL fibre modem (you use the EWAN port on this)
If you want a cheap ADSL/VDSL fibre all in one modem router then consider the W9970 which is only £3.30 more BUT is not dual band wifi.

Sky Fibre Pro is upto 76Mb. I agree the SR102 is a poor router when it comes to wireless. If you have Sky Fibre Pro you really should be considering a premium wireless router as broadband speed matters to you.

To stand a chance of getting support when there is an issue with your bb service, otherwise you run the risk of "sorry, we don't support non-Sky equipment."

Hi,
I don't know much about routers but is the one posted above better than these two posted earlier:
Will these work in the EU when connected to a modem to extend the range of wifi signal? I'm not with SKY and want to take this to the EU for office work. Sorry my knowledge is very basic on routers and would appreciate any help. Thanks in advance
spannerzone
26 Mar 16#18
Where in the EU are you going to use these? I believe Germany for example has a different implementation of ADSL for example (so check before buying anything!)
edit: if you want to use this for extending an existing connection then you probably better off getting a wifi extender

In Malta- the thick brick walls there significantly reduce the wifi signals (so I was told by the broadband company there)

Problem is I am a router noob. Is this worth it? Would it make much difference at all?

If your on higher tier Virgin package (100mb+)you'll want a router with Gigabit as you'll actually lose downstream speed connecting your SH2 in modem mode to one of these.
That said you are unlikely to get better performance out of this than the SH2 which is a Dualband router and despite it's faults doesn't give a bad wi-fi signal
Also you do know that your upload speed is limited yes? Even Virgin's 200mb Fibre only has a 12mb upload..

Well if you are a numpty, and dont know nothing about computers. Fair enough.
Having taken a course at degree level, i understand computers like the back of my hand. So why would i need support. If sky didnt give out poor products, people wouldn't do this. They expect that i should be using the same sagem g router from back in 2008, is that what your saying. You honestly think a router would last for that long, being on 24*7?

Ahhh fair enough. I just get really. Bad speeds after one wall in the house lol.
Mines only 50mb but even getting 2 things online like gta or even rocket League ends in lag unless we ethernet one. I'm really. Trying not to powerline everything.
Currently I'm using a 30 meter ethernet cable which is overkill to connect the two rooms in these situations.

I do not disagree with you and am not suggesting anything other than Sky expect to see a Sky router on the end of the line, otherwise the customer will expose themselves to a t&c ref of effectively "no Sky equipment, no credible Sky support." It's an understandable commercial decision: say for example the customer states there is an issue with the line, it is highly unlikely that Sky will spend money on perfoming line-related support tasks without Sky first confiming the customer's diagnosis, regardless of the tech prowess of the customer. Easiset permanent way round this is to obtain a cheapest of the cheap Sky router from ebay / gumtree as a "come-in-handy." This support approach is one of the reasons Sky do not openly provide bb user/pass details. The customer agreed to this requirement at sign-up. Only exception I am aware of is for migrated o2/Be customers who can expect to receive support for BYOE.

Still if they didnt provide poor products in the first instance, then people wouldnt be forced to consider using alternative means. My router has died. They want to charge me. As i said it is a 8 year old router. Wireless g. Cant even reach parts of the house. Now I have the new router, and whole house is covered, and i can get coverage a further 20 to 30m away

I think this is going to be a really good router for the price, and this is the only router at this price point comes with ADSL modem, Wifi AC, USB port and & 4 Ethernet, the only thing missing is Gigabit port which is pointless, if you find any any better than this at this price range let me know

That's just sky fibre which I had fine for two years, I recently upgraded to sky fibre pro and I get 78mb via Ethernet but 44mb via wifi because the hub is pretty poor, even sky told me that.
