Kudos to reindeer333 for alerting me to the reductions, had a look to see if there were any more Doctor Who gubbins for boyf  Used to have the Season 1 & 2 videos (sans edits) many years ago - recorded the broadcasts on Betamax :stuck_out_tongue:!

What are the "all new special features" on this ?
I wonder if we'll ever get the fully uncut episodes of all of these shows - Young Ones, Bottom and Filthy, Rich and Catflap ??

I watched The Young Ones so much in my formative years edited episodes would be physically painful for me to watch - like listening to a classic song with clumsy edits all the way through.
This is from an Amazon reviewer: "This presentation has the full versions of the songs that were cut from previous entries (including Subterranean Homesick Blues as Neil goes to join the police) and the full "Bigoted Bobby" sketch which was hilarious then and should never have been edited"
Another says "Presented over 3 discs, we have series 1 and 2 on the first two discs whilst the third disc contains a couple documentaries which are interesting but could have been so much better had all the cast and Ben Elton taken part. Still its not a great problem as its the programs that we are interested in more than the extras.
Also Demolition' and 'Summer Holiday' contain a full audio commentary by Paul Jackson.
They are presented FULLY UNCUT and that includes the episode Boring which has several what we would now call racist terms spoken by a policeman (abit to a white person) which almost never gets shown on TV.
All the music interludes are included too which again were missing from previous releases."
Tempted to buy it now! I thought all the BBC DVDs were hatchet jobs.

This is very interesting. I remember the episode "Cash" where Neil joined the army and the Jools Holland 'supergroup' number was completely removed from the subsequent DVD releases.
I'm also now tempted to get it ..
Rather annoyingly, I had the fully uncut version of Filthy, Rich and Catflap on VHS for donkeys years and stupidly ditched it for the DVD version assuming it would be the same.

Was looking at this last week when it was £6. For £3.99, I'll cash out, unless the BBC reduce it even more in the next week, it's unlikely to be this cheap anywhere else for a long time.

How is this rated 18? I was in my last year of primary school when this was originally broadcast and it was the number one programme for just about every kid in our class .

That is very strange when the Series 1 and 2 dvd's that I have are both rated 15. I'm guessing it's because we all need wrapping in cotton wool these days. The N-word was used in one episode where they won a car - very casually - I wonder if there were many complaints about it. These days they'd be too scared to even use that in a comedy context, thanks to the sanitisation of the world. :smirk: No one with a brain cell would ever watch that and think "well, THIS comedy and it's writers are totally racist!!!!" But they certainly would think that if anyone casually chucked that word in comedy today. Sad fact.

Dunno, it's all gone mad.
Half the comedy shown on mainstream tv back in the 70s' won't get a look in today due to pc correctness. It's been substituted by swear words used as-infinitum today.
Weird, substitute one thing for the other.
Strange watching 'The Professionals' at 8am in the morning, that was watershed material after 9pm back in the day.

Presumably there are some classic Alexei Sayle bits in there as well ? I'm hoping someone's memory will save me the trouble of googling and then getting lost in a night of youtube clips again.
I loved this series, but I never really found the Alexei Sayle character funny, like everyone else though, hard to believe Rik Mayall is no longer with us, The Young Ones and Bottom, we wont see the likes again.. I will be ordering this for the uncut bits

Thanks - did a search for this on the site and the blu ray version is actually only £1.99, so I ordered that one instead!
Wasn't there a Toxteth O'Grady on HUKD at one point? (World's stickiest bogey).
As for the 18 rating, it's a bit bizarre. The only swear word I remember from the Young Ones was b'stard (edited to avoid the filter and weak link to Rik's The New Statesman). The BBC official VHS videos were rated 15 about 20 years ago!

Thanks so much to the anonymous person who expired this! As a result when stock of Young Ones reappeared it didn't get snapped up and I was just now able to place an order (takes PayPal too). BBC shop is CLOSING end March that explains the deals. If you're keen on an OOS item then subscribe to be notified if stock reappears, that's what I did.

Personally I think it's Bottom that hasn't dated as well versus The Young Ones...but we all have different tastes.
As for Filthy, Rich And Catflap, not so long ago it was available on some (cough) torrent sites, I found uncut episodes a few years ago. (At least I thought I did, the links I'm looking at now say it's the DVD version for download).
Edit: The BBC Shop link has been deleted from the site, so it must be out of stock for good now!

Unsure if this still has the edits that plagued later BBC DVD releases? (See Post #16). Though for £3.99 it's worth buying :)
