Couldn't be without my actifry now. Don't have a Phillips to compare but understand that you need to agitate the basket a few times during cooking? This one rotates the food so you can walk away and leave it to get on with it. I use my actifry with the paddle for chips and roasties and without for all sorts inc. garlic bread, sausages, heating naan breads. Want the new 2in1 but it's a bit pricey for the extra convenience. If I didn't already own one, this would be a great deal for me.

I added a 5p bag to a £99.99 order in store before Christmas, and staff wouldn't allow me the £10 voucher as the 5p bag wasn't eligible for the promotion or some other bull..

What a joke job worths. It a £100 spend

Doesn't state clear enough a bag can't be added to push it over the £100. I'd argue it if refused.

Does the timer shut the frying mechanism when the timer is up?

EDIT: Seems like it doesn't auto-stop the frying process when the timer runs out (i.e. need to manually shut the system off when the timer is up). Guess it's the Philips AirFryer for me then!

Yeah, it's only the family version (that serves upto 6 portions) that automatically turns off. Not this one or the cheaper ones. Bitterly disappointed, as I liked this one.

I've never had them, but assumed they were reconstituted bits of chicken that could not be sold in any other way. Long live British cuisine! :stuck_out_tongue:

I've had the actifry and Phillips air fryer. there are plus and minus points for both.
the actifry can hold more food and agitates it automatically during cooking. The quality of the food it cooks is great. however, it is fragile. in 2 years I replaced the lid twice and the paddle once. The Philips air fryer was on offer for £50 on black Friday so I took a punt on one.
build quality for the air fryer is much, much better. The basket can be cleaned in the dishwasher as well.
Yes you do have to manually agitate the food during cooking but it takes seconds and you need to check how the food is cooking anyway.
the air fryer is quieter, heats up quickly and cooks food really well.
we use ours for everything that might normally be fried
oven chips, fish fingers, battered prawns etc
we also cook jacket potatoes in it and they come out brilliantly
on balance I prefer the Phillips but at this price the actifry is a great buy

Was it the two stupid hook clips that hold the lid down ? Mine broke and I resorted to balancing books on top of my Actifry to keep the lid down before giving it away.

If I was to buy another air fryer I'd give the Philips a go this time.

We're does Argos get that the product was £179. The model which was £179 was the 1.5kg machine nor the 1.2kg.
I've been checking these for about a month and Argos never had a 1.2kg for sale (new shape) only 1.5kg.

Looks to me all of a sudden a 1.2kg unit has turned up.
The 1.5kg is now £159 from £179.

To be fair though, if you know you've got a fryer on, then you'll be aware of it needing switched off regardless of a timer or not. Great price and thinking about purchasing, I have also heard if you want the taste of a deep fat fryer, just add a little more oil than the spoon suggests :wink:
