Was looking at this yesterday when it was £179 so at this price it is a bargin. Has a good review at http://avproductreviews.com/sony-str-dh550-review . Deal is instore only but apparently there is good availability.
If you get the email newsletter, last nights has a £10 voucher which brings it down to £119.95.

its a nice amp, I got it for a year now. I dont know why you should use cheap speaker set with? My speaker above midrange and works well with amp it has everything you need. 5 channels and sub out. decent enough wattage. 85W rms minimum I think and 145w rms at surround sound setting at 6ohms. so it pretty decent. Quality is superb, same processing as per more expensive models just it don't have any wifi, bluetooth and so on works with hdmi's

Hot, is this for real? £120 for the premium audio manufacturer?
Sony is the best money can buy, have they missed a zero?

The specification of this amp looks pretty mediocre, but I suppose it isn't that expensive. No Bluetooth, no wifi, no 2nd hdmi out, doesn't say it has arc either. I doubt it has audio pass through at this price. I may sound picky, but these features should be pretty standard these days.

It has ARC. But what do you expect for £130

Just started this exercise last week when trying upgrade from my sound bar.
Ended up costing me over £900 for amp and 5.1 setup from Richer Sounds . Very pleased with the demo, customer service and the sound quality at home.

Don't know much about amps but I want a cheap one with bluetooth to connect my phone to. Any recommendations?
I picked up a refurbished Sony STRDN1040 in RicherSounds for £140 a couple of weeks ago. I much prefer its sound to the Yamaha amps that I've owned previously.

I'm a VIP member, didn't get a voucher code newsletter last night, why's that?
Anyhow, what's a good speaker package for this?

Any low/mid-low end speaker package will be fine. It depends on your budget.
