as strange as it may seem, but some people do buy a phone to use as a phone, not run there entire life from it.

OP can you add £15 google credit in title. It will make it a very good deal.
Also with Fast track you can get £1 discount. And also additional £10 purchase will get £5 voucher. (£5 voucher for purchases over £50).

seems a good price and voted hot because it will be useful for someone but I just can't see how a phone with these specs could be genuinely useful without lagging and freezing

i agree.
however....he's right. the slow specs means even things like unlocking, switching between the message and phone apps, turning settings on and off would be a PITA.
perhaps for a first smart phone you'd know no better but it wouldnt be the most pleasant of experiences

I understand that but my point is that with these kind of specifications it becomes hard to just use as a phone when you can't send a text or make a call without it freezing up that's all I meant

nonsense. still have an old android, works perfect as phone and texts. will only get like you said if you fill with load of useless apps

Warning: It sounds like this is the 3G version of the Pixi e (4.5). The spec of that is awful, only 512MB RAM and slow CPU.
The 4G version which is what Carphone Warehouse sell is much better.

It's 4G I've purchased one of these myself

I bought one of these 6 months ago from Asda (unlocked) for a similar price. Dreadful phone, mainly due to a charging issue. The battery would get uncomfortably hot whilst on charge, then after a few months the battery would hold little to no charge.
Asda to their credit, replaced the handset without question. The replacement had the same issue. At which point we got a refund.
The actual software and spec of the phone was quite useable. Can't really recommend based on our experience.

Bought one of these as a cheap standby phone while mine was fixed, quickly realised it was a load of crap, touch screen probs, charging, connectivity, etc. If you are that desperate to throw away your money, give it to charity!

It's a terrible phone. There is a good 80% chance that the phone refuses to let me answer a call before they hang up

Google Play Music is FAB, if you become a long term subscriber look out for the 20% OFF vouchers & the incredible 1/2 price for up to 5 year offer.
It can work out at approx £4.20 a month, less than the Americans pay!, maybe cheaper in Russia though!

It is 3G dual core. I picked mine up Saturday. There is a quad core 4G version but this ain't it.

I thought the £15 Google credit would be a code in the box but in fact you have to go through a redemption process. I tried it and have discovered that when it asks you for the serial number it actually wants the IMEI Number

Further update, emailed the additional info that was requested last night for Google credit and code was emailed this morning which I have now redeemed.

Could Argos be selling both the 3G and 4G versions???
The description pasted by Chewbacca123 (the OP) says "dual core processor and 3G internet access" which implies it's the 3G version, but Chewbacca123 says the one they bought is 4G.
Chewbacca123: exactly which model phone did you get? It should say on the box, e.g. 5017X.
But if you look at http://pixi3.alcatelonetouch.com/ the specs there for the 4.5" phone seem to be for the 3G model saying 4GB storage, 512MB RAM, Android 4.4. But that says dual-core 1.3GHz CPU.

It is possible Argos have stock of both, to be honest I did hope I'd get 4G version. I think I saw something on Argos site that they used to incorrectly advertise it as 4G quad core version.

Did you buy 4G version from Argos and if so how long ago, could be they have altered what they sell?

If anyone gets one from Argos, you can check the model number on the box and return it there and then if it isn't the 4G version.
Models 5017X/5017D/5017A/5017E are 4G. Models 4027X/4027D/4027A/4028A/4028E/4028J/4027N are 3G.

The specs on Alcatel's web site are hopeless and confusing. On this page:
http://www.alcatelonetouch.com/global-en/support/product?id=50&model=PIXI%203%284.5%29
it says the 4G version has 1GHz quad-core CPU and 1GB RAM. And the 3G version has 1GHz dual-core CPU.

Basically: 5017x is 4G, 4027x is 3G.
