Still, good tablet for the money - most likely the best value for money.

don't be taken in with the hype or fan boys.

Yes its a powerful tablet, but its cheap at the expense of build quality. Nvidia have terrible customer service.

The features such as remote play only work when you spend allot of time trouble shooting your network but works fine with 3rd party apps like moonlight.

The mods pop on the forums and promise to look into issue but never resolve.

I will never buy another shield product.

Buy a nexus 2013 or sony, or samsung tablet for a little bit more, even the nexus 9 by htc would be better than the shield and it has its own problems

Looks like RRP to me https://shield.nvidia.co.uk/store/tablet/k1 OP why is this a deal?

Had the original Shield tablet, it was ok but I was disappointed by the battery life, sold it and went for a Nexus 7 2013 which is running the latest Android updates.

Thanks. Ordered the cheapest one I could as they all seem the same design.

Also made a mistake on ordering and got the TV box! Have to send that back now. Luckily dabs had 1 left in stock of the tablet. should get it before I fly out end of next week.

if the first editions had any downfall it is definitely the Wireless Range, i think it was a genuine design flaw and still dont understand how they allowed to manufacture these wirh such a glaring problem. its just simply not atrong enough.5ghz gaming you would probably be fine if you was im the bedroom above the room the router is located, but through potentially two solid walls, you might as well be sat on Mars. this however cam be dealt with if you're willing to spend a few extra pence and get the Netgear PW1000 or whatever its model number is. it connect using ethernet over power and bridges your existing wifi up stairs, essentially expanding the wifi range of your network by a solid 70%, enough to cover the house in a 5gh signal. i dont think the new batch suffer this design flaw.

Very interested in this tablet, seems cracking for the money.. if it can be bought! However I really only need to increase the memory to my iPad, and if I could find a reliable usb memory drive for it then maybe I should do that.

But this looks great, and the speakers seem way more useful out and about than my iPad speakers…

Ok guys, here is an update. I ordered the K1 a couple of weeks ago and was told it would be shipped out on Monday 14th March. By Wednesday there was still no sign of it so I contacted customer service. They have now responded saying that there is no stock and they have no estimated date of when it will arrive. I must admit that I'm pretty unimpressed and will probably cancel the order and shell out a few quid extra to go somewhere more reliable.

Those games work on the K1 Shield. They don't run great, but to be honest, they don't run great on the X1 console either.

I have both Shield devices. At £150, this is excellent value for a great tablet. My only gripe is standby battery life. My old iPad 4 could live in standby for *weeks* before the battery ran out. If I charge my Shield tablet and leave it in standby, the battery is gone in five days.

Yes however Samsung have purposley removed the feature that was built in from settings and their is already a work around for the S7 to enable it via ADB commands and no root required. The Shield Tablet K1 does support it as mentioned in the blog annoucment for the 6.0 update back in december here http://blogs.nvidia.com/blog/2015/12/21/android-6-0-marshmallow/ bullet point 2:

for £150 it's probably ok,but shield products are massively overrated.don't expect samsung/apple/sony/etc build quality or amazon/apple/etc customer service..I've had very poor experience with 2 shield products, due to poor build quality and non-existent customer service..they look better than what they are..just search the web and see how many un-addressed issues are there.
don't forget they are reducing the price because they can't sell them.again for £150 they are probably ok.that's all.

This seems similar, if not identical to the Xiaomi MiPad (barring the MiPad's higher resolution screen) that I got over a year ago in Malaysia at less than this price... at first I mistook this deal for an X1 in which case it'd be great!

Unfortunately X1 versions seems to have disappeared before even being released, I've not heard of any tablet using the chips (apart from the Shield console). MiPad 2 went boring Intel Atom/Windows, sadly...

In fact, I'm getting deja vu, sure I've written this before at some point last year LOL

I think the point of "is there a better tablet in the price point" is valid - but at the same time, this tablet does some unique stuff that gives it the edge for people that want it.

I.e. the GeforceNow features, PC streaming etc and its also a powerful gaming tablet.

I dont believe other tablets can offer that, can they?
paulb76
16 Mar 16 #75
Not really a fan boy no, I just think its a great bit of kit, especially for £150 including controller and remote. Plays all my Android games really well, the GeforceNow is really good and streaming from my PC works flawlessly (same thing cant be said of a mates Steam Link...)

As a company, yea, Nvidia are rubbish really. Support based abroad and when I went to originally buy the Shield they messed me around alot to the point I cancelled with them and went to Amazon.

Cant really say I'm a fanboy because I've not had any issues with mine. All tech kit has problems and every forum will be full of unhappy people venting of course they will. Apple, Sony, M$ - they all get the same for their kit.

I did check the forums and yes, was a bit concerned, but as I say, you always get moaners with legitimate problems, or problems from their own making (sideloading, trying to install stock Android etc). The only thing you can say about the people that have had hardware issues, is they all seem to report the RMA is dealt with really well and handled quickly.

16 Mar 16 1 #72
Very nice tablet for the money -personally I sold mine on as I found it too heavy and the power button was annoyingly difficult to press!

In the end I've gone for the (admittedly more expensive) Sony Xperia Z3 Compact tablet for £226 and am far happier with it!

As far as a deal goes, I've not seen these cheaper than £150 so the deal is more of it being in stock than it being a cracking price!

Really? The build quality of the shield tv is excellent.

The console is arguably the best looking console around. Great shape, lovely finish.

Controller is on a par with the big boys. Not quite as good, but by no means terrible. Great to have onboard volume and headphone socket.

Remote is expensive for what it is, but as its been bundled in recently, you cant complain? Think its a really good remote, weighty, nice finish, buttons are nicely done and again, has headphone out built in which is great for a remote.

Really dont get your argument at all on that?

Got mine last week from amazon to replace my 2012 nexus 7. One mistake I made was to use an old low power charger to charge it and this makes the tablet very unresponsive while charging. OB1
16 Mar 16 #55
I'd recommend installing an app (e.g. the task manager in 3C Toolbox) so that you can see what's using the RAM, something must be.

Is the problem fixed after a reboot? Lollipop does have problems with 'memory leakage', which can be fixed by restarting SystemUI or simply rebooting.

I've been after one for a while for half life two goodness, I bought the Hp slate 7 running Windows 10 and it runs steam, it was only £50 and can plug an Xbox one controller in it. I really wish nvidia would open it up to Windows and I'd buy it in a flash. Not enough PC conversion games on shield for me to buy yet...

I held off buying a year ago as they were upgrading it, but it was cosmetic rather than power when it was released. It's a good price but I'll wait a little longer and see if there's a k2 around the corner

Only 2gb ram. For an advanced bit of gaming tech. Thats not big. The newer android OS is eating most of this in heavy use.

Yes, I agree. The 64-bit devices running on only 2GB Ram, (Nexus 5x & Nexus 9,) have awful performance issues as they are constantly running too low on Ram. Luckily this tablet is running the 32-bit OS?

16 Mar 16 1 #51
That's the problem with the Nexus 9. You can have 4 tabs open in chrome and just a few minor apps. (clock & sheets for example.) and as soon as you switch back to chrome, those tabs refresh. The Nexus 7 2013 has no issues whatsoever running exactly the same OS and with the same RAM.

Voted hot because of the product more than the offer posted. This is a fantastic tablet. I have owned one of these since day one, and now own two of them within my household. Most bang-for-buck and the new batch have acknowledged and rectified all the original quality control issues. And if like me you have a monster gaming rig, then the gamestream feature works flawlessly, even on a 2.4ghz network.

I bought one from Amazon last week (when they were in stock). A lovely tablet for the money. I upgraded to 6.0 and then the 1.1 update. First rundown i had the high miscellaneous battery drain of 20% that is reported on the Nvidia forums. Cleared the cache from recovery. On day 3 now and the miscellaneous drain is gone. I am seeing on screen times of about 4 hours at full brightness. I turn WiFi off when not in use.

I was going to return it as you read some right horror stories about it but i am going to keep it. It flies along and it is near stock android so hopefully will get updates for a year more (fingers crossed)

The only glaring omission is AC wireless and the hard to press power button
