always wonder why tv's of this size have a scart.....everything this size looks terrible through scart. but good price nevertheless

May look alright, but I would be thinking about if it is going to last or if I should spend a little more and get a better quality set

Had one, looked great with sky hd but awful and jerky with amazon video. Sent it back.

Has it got amazon built in?
If you're using an external device the image quality will be down to the playback device and your internet bandwidth not the TV, if sky HD looked good then an Amazon HD stream should look good too.
Also, sometimes you have to stop and restart an amazon stream to get rid of juddering.

Certainly looks that way to me. It's not pretending to be another brand and forgoes all that smart nonsense that my FTV and Nowtv boxen can deliver

Yes, get a 4K TV, everything is BOUND to look better.

Nope, not built in. I know it's not the devices. I tried both Ps3 and wii u, both with same results. Both had a wired connection and the same content worked perfectly on the old Sony tv it replaced. I really wanted it to not be the tv so I could keep it. But unfortunately it was. I eliminated every other possibility.
I tried playing with the settings on the tv too but couldn't get an improvement.
I would also get the same juddering occur on the same frame of the stream on different days.
I guess it's something to do with the encoding used (inexpert opinion)

also had one here, returned it after 2 weeks because of the jerky frame rate issue. seemed especially bad with animated shows.

well let's be honest...1080p on 55" screen doesn't look great. pixel per inch will be less dense so you may as well look for 4K for this screen size...
imo. for 40" screen HD res will do, for 45" or above a UHD res would be better. just saying.
same applies to any tablet and smartphone. Those who think bigger screen is better are daft.

Where do you find all this 4k content then? My projector screen is 120 inches. I just about scrape by on 1080p.

My 60" Sony looks great at 1080p thank you very much.
Used mainly for XBox One and Bluray though even SD tv looks fine thanks to its wizardry.

Well if you sit more than about 6 foot away someone with average eyesight won't discern the 1080p pixels so unless they intend to sit closer the extra money on 4k alone - all other things being equal - would be wasted.
Tomston
10 Mar 16#21
just to back this up - it was definitely the TV. it would kick in randomly but the jerky frame rate was present on all sources. you may get lucky and get one that's fine but it is a known issue.

Sounds like some kind of bug then rather than a direct side effect of price. Although I'm sure quality control suffers with less expensive sets and of course the willingness to release a firmware update to fix issues. A shame because apparently it's a decent enough panel inside it. It can be hit or miss with budget sets, that's why it's so great to have sites like this where people share their experiences.

shame stand aint in the middle of the tv as it wont fit on my unit :disappointed: although the manual shows the stand in the middle of the tv.

and a 7" TV too.
well, hope you are just making a joke and fully understand what I was implying. It's not rocket science...
PC gaming of course! Most mid-range GFX card can overpass the 1080p boundary.

bought this today, its grainy on SD as well as on netflix, WWE network etc on the PS4. Every time there is fast movement or long range shots its grainy. Bit of a novice so no idea of this is my cables or the TV itself

Just to say, Netflix has quite a bit of 4K content, and I think all of their original series are in UHD.
The same goes with Amazon, their original series are in 4K too.
I suspect as new films and TV series are released on both services they'll be available in 4K, and this time next year I'm betting most stuff will be available in 4K, maybe even iplayer etc!
IMO, the 4k does look superb, especially on 50+ inch screens.

11 Mar 16#36
It does look superb but the user needs to be aware they need to be a certain distance from the tv according to it's size to appreciate the extra detail. For a lot of people the extra detail would be lost. When I get a 4k set I will near enough have my nose pressed against it lol.

11 Mar 162#31
Absolute nonsense. I have a 65" TV and 1080p looks superb. You must be comparing pretty poor quality 55" sets to come to that conclusion. The difference between 1080p and 4K is noticeable but it is not as earth shattering as you may think. HDR will be the technology that improves picture quality probably more than 4K as we move forward.
