I bought one of these usb pen drives from argos at the weekend for my partner and we noticed that on usb 3.0 version this model of the pen drive got extremely hot and would overheat and then disconnect when copying files of difference sizes. Then pen drive was extremely hot to touch when taking it out of the onboard usb 3.0 ports and even when it was tried in a usb 3.0 hub. The files we where copying where under 500mb.
When we tried it on usb 2.0 port it still hot but not as hot as what heat it was generating on usb 3.0

If you worry about heat, buy the similar drive from Samsung (Micro Fit) (£22-£25 for 128GB..they don't get hot at all.
or go for older Sandisk model (Cruzer Fit) USB2 and maximum 64GB but much better design than newer Uktra Fit and no heat issue.

Hang on, I've got the 64GB and I haven't noticed it being hot. Is it meant to happen, when copying large amount of data to/from it, or all the time?

I've got the 64gb version and I don't think it'll last long. Yeah, it gets hot, like proper hot, like the hottest part of my laptop isn't the processor but this stupid USB drive. Good price but definitely not recommended.

Delayed due to asbestos packaging?

I have the Sandisk 64GB model. Grossly hot when in use - that's hot, not just warm. Common issue, hence comment in post #2.

Aren't the sandisk ones the kind that overheat and die after a few months? it an I thinking of the Samsung ones?

they get hot but they don't die..have 3 of them and been using them on daily basis for over a year now with no problems.

No real need for this now the milder spring-time temperatures are upon us.
