This is basically the same spec as a Moto G 3rd (at least the 16GB version), but with slightly nicer build quality, and slightly laggy performance (mainly thanks to touchwiz, but also due to a slower processor clock speed).
Personally, I think it's still overpriced at £180
Yes, but only 5.0.2
This model is being phased out and replaced by another A5 model (2016 version), so that would make sense.

I have just bought one for my daughter. It arrived and is model SM-A500FU but it has shipped with Android 5.0.2 installed (when you look at the software details in Settings / About Phone).
Inserted SIM card to get it started, connected it to WiFi and it immediately did a software update (around 300Mb download). The Android version didn't change so it must be just a minor upgrade to 5.0.2.
Good solid phone that feels well made.

Wanted to say although it's supposed to be refurbished, there was nothing wrong with mine whatsoever. Looked brand new. The phone box just had a sticker mark on it.

I've tried googling and just get bogged down, but can anyone tell me the key differences between the A,J and S series please. I know the S is the flagship spec and the others have less features, what what exactly is missing. I'm interested in biggest screen, best camera for the least money

Got this from amazon open box a couple of months ago for 130. Said used like new but basically brand new and unused. Great phone, lovely quality feel and good battery life. Quick enough for me but not a high end phone. Only think I feel that let's it down is the camera. Pictures appear washed out and lack detail. My partner got a j5 that I think is a lower spec device with the same camer unit but I may be wrong and her pictures come out much better. Quality of the handset much lower however cheaper phone with replaceable battery. This deal isn't too bad but wouldn't pay any more!!

I think this phone has one of the lowest Sar values for a smartphone you can get. That makes it more valuable to me than the money I could save buying something else.

You can get better phones for a bit less, but my wife has an A5 and she loves it. Specs might be slightly lower than similarly priced phones but it looks great, has a vibrant screen and feels really premium.

Well at least this one has a slot for SD card compared to the LG Nexus so many went crazy for. Good price I guess for being Samsung, but as someone else said, there is way better phones to get for this money. I like the look tho, gold never fails haha.

The newer version of the Aseries will be coming out soon including the new a5. So these will drop in price even more. The new a5 is basically the s6 design with lesser specs and a larger battrey.

I purchased this phone for my dad last year. Great phone , quality feel. Just a point to note , the battery can not be changed... I purchased it as an o2 refurb for £119 in perfect condition. not sure I would pay £179 , other phones are worth considering at that price
