I used to buy the German brewed 500ml bottle, which I quite enjoyed. When it was changed to be brewed in France, it was dreadful. I complained to LIDL customer services and pointed out that it was misleading as it kept the German identity. I have not bought it since. LIDL have a habit of changing the source (hence taste/quality) of other products which I stop buying. I find ALDI to be more consistent - and they do a German brewed beer at a reasonable price.

Drank the old Perlenbacher bottles but gave up when the Green bottles arrived. Tasteless! Bought the cans, not bad but now they have disappeared from the local Lidl. Bought a 24 crate of beer from Germany @ €0.89 per 500ml. bottle but postage is €16.90. That's Euros.

Thanks fubuki81, will try the cans. When brewed in Germany these bottles were amazing, now brewed in France they taste like soapy water. Lidl quality doing IMO and looking elsewhere for quality German beer, cans worth a try (if brewed correctly).

What's a chemical beer? Is it one that has no ethanol? :stuck_out_tongue:
The purity law is a bit of marketing nowadays imo. You can make terrible beers using only the purity law ingredients. German beers tend to be good because they have good brewers, not simply because of a law.

I find it incredible that Lidl don't sell any true German brewed beer in the UK.
They certainly seem to in the stores I've been to elsewhere in Europe. In Amsterdam they sell some lovely real German beers in lidl.

Pretty sure it's not actually Gernan but made in France
yep fake German beer made in France and most certainly a chemical beer unlike true German beers brewed under German purity laws
it is OK but just OK and not worth more than 84p
fine as a BBQ beer :stuck_out_tongue:

Can't argue with the price, it's a good deal if you are looking for a cheap beer, but I have tried this and imo it's not really worth it. I found it quite harsh and it just tasted cheap to me.
