Popped into my local tesco for a few bits and saw these in the clearance bin of the tesco mobile shop for £9.75 each...as with all of these deals i guess its just plain luck if you find any but thought its worth posting. Found in Bishops Stortford Tesco.

Windows phones are excellent. Prefer them over androids. On my third Lumia model owned 800, 920 and 930 and all have been superb

I can hear the geese from here.......
Lumia are awful phones and the O/S sucks too. Shame as I really wanted Nokia to rule the roost again and 'invested' in a top end Lumia at launch. It was the most problematic phone I've ever owned.
I've had Samsungs ever since.

I liked my 800. Replaced it with a 1020 when the 800 was stuck on WP7 knowing that this time I wouldn't be left behind.
Now it appears I'm wrong - W10 ran so badly on the 1020 (I know, I tried it) that it isn't being released for it.
Can anyone recommend an Android phone with a camera as good as the 1020's?

I bought my kids these when the Carphone Warehouse deal was on. Yes it's a bit limited as it's not Android but for the money they are brilliant phones.

anyone know if the older Lumia's are getting Windows 10 ?

Older as in 820/920/925, then out of luck I'm afraid, not getting full win 10 release. Chipset is about 4 or so years old now.
You CAN download the Win 10 insider release, which has pretty much everything, but don't expect every feature to work...

Brilliant phones, far better than my previous androids. Just works, and is intuitive to use. Not interested in games on a phone but all the apps I want are available. Integrates with my windows computers. Not quite "Apple" but hey, for the money excellent.

I straddle the Android (actually, Cyanogen) and Windows divide... and I gotta tell ya, Windows is more polished, and 'just works' better than android.
Some of the android skins (sony/Samsung etc) might polish it up a little, but I still wouldn't want to buy one for my mother. I'd get her a windows phone.
Not a 635 Mind...! These are probably the older version with 512 mb ram, if it IS the 1gb version, then mega heat!

Polished isn't a word I'd use to describe Windows Phone.

That's your choice, but having recently moved directly from WIn10 to Android, I find the simple things are built right into W10, and need fiddling or alternative apps to do easily on android.
Hence polish.
I know what you are getting at, but now at release, the OS is far better than it was even 4 weeks ago.

You tried installing an EXE file on an ARM processor based smartphone?!
What on earth were you expecting to happen!? Did you think iTunes would suddenly pop up on your 4.5" screen?
& you kept on trying to do the same thing?!
How many were left in the bishops stortford store on the shelf?

this is what happened to my Nokia no warning just happened and there is no recovery you just have a expensive paper weight and you lose everything that was on it

Failure of the inner storage memory is something that can happen to any device. You were just v.unlucky. (Though given how battered your screen looks, I dare say a device with an easier life would not have run into the problem you had)
P.S. - I also have a Lumia 820. The only problem I've had is from breaking the screen (which is very brittle). It has been a superb phone aside from that.
P.P.S - Have you tried recovering your phone using WDRT? You may be able to get it working again....though unlikely if the memory has failed.

The pic is not my phone its one I pulled of the net mine is sitting in a drawer in great condition apart from the obvious :disappointed: the problem doesn't arise from damage to it cosmetically its an internal fault motherboard I'm led to believe and I did like my Nokia until this happened. I have done lots of research and found this particular problem was only associated with the Nokia Lumia and WDRT is no good but thanks for your suggestion

I have to agree. For my mother, I bought a Windows phone and she immediately understood how to use it, where the apps were on the Home screen etc. The problem with Windows is that it LOOKS ages behind.

Hi all aplogies for delayed response...there were 2 left after i picked one up. One green and one black. Guy seemed to think price would be same nationwide (if any more can be found) Anywho picked up one for my old man...seems like a good budget phone and at £9.75 its worth a punt.

Windows 10 is only available for the 1GB version of the 635. According to Tesco's website this model only has 512MB so won't be eligible for the update. This is the equivalent of when all the WP7 phones were sold off cheap. Nice phone for the money. Nice OS. But it's doomed to be out of date with a shrinking app store.

I like my 920, a brick but takes a beating.
Problem is Here maps will not be available on WP10, only on WP8, and even that will be withdrawn soon. If you don't already have it installed, you won't be able to get it.
And that was the best app in the store.
Apparently Nokia sold it to someone, and stupidly Microsoft didn't buy it.
Or what I have read is all wrong and everything is great.

The Here Drive app was discontinued because it needed more dev work for Win10, which somewhat understandably, they didn't want to invest in, given that a: it's a free app, and b: the company that own it, no longer have a vested interest in giving away their tech and IP for free.
Given point B, I fully expect that the app for IOS and Android will eventually suffer the same fate. There's no reason for the new owners to give it away, given that they have bought it for the data to be built into their cars, and to license the mapping data.
As for Win10 phones, just use the built in Maps app, that uses the same Here Maps data.

If you are on Windows 10 Mobile already, then I wouldn't worry about Here Drive being removed. The Microsoft Maps app (at least in the preview versions) has already surpassed Here Drive. & unlike Here, that app will continue to be improved....and does also use the Here offline map data. Best of both worlds.
The lost of Here Transit is a real shame though.
Here have confirmed that the apps will remain on the Windows Phone 8.1 store - just not on Windows 10 Mobile

as long as a deal goes, this one is a fantastic. really fantastic value for money: 4G, 4,5" clear screen, upgradable to win10 right now. Mind blowing for under a tenner

Are you sure it's upgradable to to Win10? Microsoft say the Lumia 635 (1GB) is upgradable; this one only has 512MB according to Tesco's website.

Not officially going to get full Win10, but you can get the insider version, but don't expect it to fly in all circumstances...
