Nexus 6p back on Amazon FR @ €499 / 386 GBP. Own one of these myself and it's a fantastic bit of kit, the screen is stunning, camera takes some great shots, and now great price backed up by Amazon customer service makes it a no brainer.

Slightly worse £ to € after 1pm due to the ECB announcement

Where did you buy from? Is it ok buying from Amazon france, never done it before.
k_d
9 Mar 16 #5
I didn't buy from them but people vote hot for deals on other countries Amazon websites all the time so would assume there shouldn't be any issues. I'd imagine the only difference would be an adapter would be required as the charger would be a European 2 pin plug but other people might shed more light on it for you.
k_d
9 Mar 16 #6
Oh I bought via gumtree. If you buy from eBay be careful as non European models won't be covered for warranty purposes by the manufacturer. People sometimes post them for sale on here in the for sale section.

Shame it is only 32GB. My download music collection from Google music is at least 30GB. I need the 64GB minimum but seems like I am never gonna see that on sale.

Gonna wait till end of month. If the 64GB doesn't go on sale I am gonna import the 128GB Xiaomi Mi5.

Just a word of caution regarding plug. This will be EU plug with USB c input, in the box you will also find USB c to USB c cable and a very short USB to USB c cable. This means that you will either need an adaptor to use the charger or use a standard charging plug with a very short cable (I am sure sexond solution affect fast charging because Nexus has different charging technology than qualcom QC, so even if you have fast charger it might not charge fast, I'm not sure if using adapter has any effect on charge speed). If you wanna get UK fast charger it is 20 quid from Google, quite expensive me thinks.

And for last if someone wanted to buy a brand new n6p which was Amazon France replacement sent from UK (therefore I believe UK charger), check out my profile

Great phone. I got a 64gb one from Amazon.fr a while ago. I can confirm it ships with EU plug. I just got an adapter for it. A lot more reasonable than buying a new charger. When I researched it only seemed that Google sold one that would work with fast charging.

Oh as an added (very small) bonus, buying the EU version gets you free headphones in the box. UK one doesn't ship with those.

The other bonus is 2 year warranty in rest of EU, where the most of UK suppliers give only 1 year. It's weird that UK is in EU but is only EU country where warranty can be less than 2 years.

This has a bigger screen than the S7 so go for the S7 Edge instead. Everything about the S7 is better than this phone. Everything even the front facing camera as the f stop is 1.7

http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=7821&idPhone2=7588&idPhone3=7945

The S7 and S7 Edge cost a lot more than this phone though. The S7 is the current best smartphone on the market, they'll cost you around £550 - £630 for SIM free though, OUCH!

gubro to mattzildjian
10 Mar 16 #56
The Mi5 does not support B20, so you might not get 4G.
Also, you have to live with the fact, that unless Xiaomi releases a global ROM, you will have some Chinese stuff on your phone which you can't get rid of (yes, you can almost all, but not totally).
Also, the Nexus is future proof in regards of software updates.
Last, but not least, the Mi5 is fHD whereas the 6P is qHD.

...if you speak French! The trouble with ordering it from another Amazon country is that the only people who can deal with it are from that country. Amazon France has English speaking customer service. They're unfortunately only contactable by email rather than chat. If you start a chat and ask them if they speak English, they give you an email to use.

Actually there is a small problem buying in France that I've found. Very few insurance companies will cover a phone not purchased in the UK. I even argued that purchasing from Amazon UK is the same as purchasing from Amazon France as both are the same company (Amazon EU SARL). But insurance companies didn't agree. Eventually I got covered with Barclays tech pack. It was the insurance companies that MSE recommended that wouldn't cover the phone.

I spoke to French customer services on the phone, after the UK one was unable to help me. English emails are fine in theory, but they didn't understand the issue.

I had one of these for about a month, it was a good phone but for me not a great phone. I might of been unlucky but mine had tiny bits of silver showing through where the anodised aluminium met the plastic tab at the bottom of the back, it wasn't massively noticeable but still it shouldn't of been there.

its aluminium is soft like the iphone 6 and this phone suffers from bending issues the cameras glass panel has quality issues too with users reporting of it randomly cracking, this could be to do with the metal bending and putting stress on the camera panel though. The nexus 6p reddit page is full of story's of how easy this thing is to bend too with 40% of the people who own one on there saying there phone is showing signs of bending, so if your one of them people who wears tight trousers or puts there phone in there back pocket then maybe this isn't the phone for you.

I think they will release a global rom for sure. Yes its only 1080p but its not in the same price range as the nexus 6P. Problem I have is I don't see the nexus 64GB or 128GB dropping in price, the 32GB one will but that's useless to me with no external storage support!
Lebdude
10 Mar 16 1 #66
I directly compared this to my wife's iphone 6s it has a a lot faster processor, a lot more ram, a higher resolution screen, two stereo speakers, that sound fantastic, a better camera resolution as well as a lot faster tech behind its finger print sensor, its quite a lot cheaper too, it's just a shame about its build quality.
ipswich78
10 Mar 16 #67
That person can't be taken seriously. The whole iPhone vs Android debate is so flawed. So many people just compare specs but that only tells half the story.

I use both iOS and Android, really like them both. They both have strengths and weaknesses, but one thing to be said about Apple is the software is fully optimised to run on the hardware very, very well. And more often than not you are running the latest operating system excluding planned obsolescence.

Saying all that... I really want a Nexus 6P but yet to see a deal on a 128GB version. I don't like throwing that amount of cash at an Android device as they don't hold their value as well as their Apple counterparts.
ipmanwck

I have the 6p and it is a great phone but because I only have 32gb it's such a pain. I did try using Google music and Google photos but trying to put photos into a folder on my pc from Google photos is very time consuming as want to create photo albums and videos from capture pics etc. battery life is true my amazing
hardstylemw
10 Mar 16 #69
You must realise that the iPhone is alot older than the Nexus. The Apple A9 processor comfortably beats every 810 chip. Battery life is better, screen colours are better, camera has better software.

http://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/antutu-iphone-6s-best-performing-smartphone/

I rest my case!

10 Mar 16 #70
I'm not a fanboy like yourself but come on. The nexus 6p has 8 cores.having a better single core performance means nothing when you only have 2. 6s is only 1080p whereas the 6p is 4K. Just stop lying/misleading. The fact that you defend Apple by stating that the iPhone has been out for a while is incredible. Why can't you be a normal consumer and accept what's better right now is better?

6p or note 4?
mystogan12
10 Mar 16 1 #74
Single core or multicore performance is dependant on if the application is made to take advantage of that. The nexus has 8 cores but does not use them all at the same time, it only uses 4 at a time, it features 4 low powered cores to be used to save battery. Even in multicore benchmarks the iPhone 6s plus has better performance and out performs the nexus. The nexus 6p also has a 2K screen. So the question is why are you misleading? If being a normal consumer means being ignorant, congratulations you achieved that goal.

The advantage here is Nexus 6P's price point which is amazing when compared to the pricing of the iPhone.

Not very true, EU warranty = you do not need to prove it is manufacturers fault, up to 2 years hassle free repair or exchange. Sale of goods act = you have to prove after 1 year that particular component failed which may cost you money! I lived outside of UK for decades, trust me, warranty within EU is much better!
hardstylemw
10 Mar 16 #89
An easily made mistake. It really pains me to say that the 6s is the best phone out now but I can't ignore it anymore. The iPhone 5 and 5s were the Apple phones that you could say were well overpriced compared to what the competition was offering but since then they responded with with a brilliant phone that for a long time was ahead of its competition. Will be interesting if they can beat the next gen of android phones that are starting to roll out now. I just can't see Apple packing hi-fi, 2k screens and dual pixel cameras like the phones that are on their way.

If you purchase from Amazon.fr then you need to contact Amazon.fr
I can't see it being a problem though, they speak English, returns for faulty items are paid for by the retailer. The only negative I can see is that the parcel may take a day or two longer to get back to Amazon France. Other than that, don't worry.

You might as well go for the other deal where you get £35 off when buying directly from Google. I've also heard EE are selling for £400 + £10 which I wished I went for. I wouldn't advise buying from third party as it can be difficult if you need to return. There's also the question of will they deliver to the UK.
