I have a few of these bought for £25-30 last year. Not the most beautiful USB sticks but work great and no failures thus far despite transferring a fair bit of data. Definitely recommended at this price!!

What write speeds are you getting through USB 3.0?

I've had a couple of these for a while now.
Read and write speeds max out at about 25mb/s, which is not as much as the Grixx equivalent but at this price, would consider them to be good value.
The description on the site states Read Speed: 25MB/s, Write Speed: 14MBs

Formatting to NTFS would provide much greater speeds, but I've read online that drives are more prone to failure when formatted to NTFS compared to the default FAT.

Last time this was posted, the Grixx came in for some recent dead on arrival criticism. From me included. Sp;eed wise I couldn't honestly say I'd seen a noticeable difference when plugged into a USB3 socket, but I usually transfer through my router at USB2 speeds. I use my pendrives for smart tv recording and playing back movies.... and I am considering combining a 240GB SSD with one of these (which isn't much more expensive than a pendrive, almost as light, small and much much faster.

Unless you really need this sort of capacity I can't help feeling you'd be better off with something a bit faster.
Transferring large files will be painful

Yep, I get about 25mb/s. Not the fastest, but I didn't buy for speed.
Reliability and decent size is my main priority. Got 4 of these, and not had any problems.
I think for the price, they are a good deal.

I get about 35 read and 20-25 write on mine, but it has been super reliable so far. The case is a wee bit shoogley too, but it is cheap.

The Grixx looks better and I hear the write speeds are faster at first but once they heat up their write speeds come down substantially. These aren't noticeably slower for me personally. Genuine question, what large files do people need transferring so urgently?

A system backup?
A 20GB backup at 20MB/s will take 15 minutes, for example.
It's of course relative, but personally this is too slow for what I'd use it for (backups).

So it's really USB 2.0

NTFS only provides a small modicum of speed increase as I formatted mine this way.
I would have normally recommended Grixx but both a 64Gb and 128Gb failed within 6 months, so am a little reluctant to do so now.

I think some people using these things must be utilising a poor quality USB 3 interface, or bought their red drive some time ago, I've got 4 red drives and 1 Grixx, 3 of the red drives have all been purchased within the last 12 months, but at least 3 months ago, the other red and the Grixx I've had for about a year.
I run H2TESTW on all my chips before using.
The older of the red drives produces speeds similar to those quoted here, the other 3 produce speeds of around 80 write and 100 read, you'll have to search my responses to find the accurate numbers, all 3 are consistent to within 1%. They are also faster than the Grixx.
The newer red drives run hot, but not as hot as the Grixx, which you could fry eggs on. The older red, runs cold.
The Grixx exhibits strange behaviour when writing files, speeds plummet regularly, reducing the overall transfer speeds to closer to the old red drive, under benchmarks it doesn't exhibit these symptoms and it's got nothing to do with the temperature of the drive.
The red drives don't seem as compatible with alternative devices (routers, tv sets, PVRs) but may work if put at the end of a USB cable, the Grixx seems rock solid. Before anyone suggests file system as the issue, I've tried FAT, exFAT and NTFS to get round the problem.
Since I've had no failures from any chips, they are pretty reliable, and personally I think the red drive is the more robust cast, but if you're careful both are perfectly reasonable.

Just did a speed test copying 40.05GB of data (371 files of various video and image files, small and large), using TeraCopy under Windows 10 on a pretty decent laptop with SSD drive.
MyMemory Red 8 mins 23 seconds
Grixx 21 mins 6 seconds
When copying the mymemory was too fast to even see the filenames for the image files, and there was far less pausing.

Advertised write speed is 14MB/s, to fill 128GB at that speed would take around 2.5 hours not 20 minutes.

Very slow write/read speeds for such a big drive. Would not recommend

Lol, you could fill this drive in around 20 minutes, which is pretty good really, for a drive this cheap.

Buy it from them on Ebay (same price free deliv) and get Nectar points as well.

Think I might get this, I have loads of usb memory drives, could do with binning some and putting it all on one.
As an aside, anyone help me with this
I have worked with computers for years, mainly Macs but just upgraded to Win10 on my pc. Oh jeezus, I f. hate it. It's like going back on an Amstrad!! I was told it would be fast, much faster than 7. Yeah, it is. But if I want to cross the road, I;ll cross the road to get to the other side, not take a f.... 10 mile detour to get there!!! :disappointed:
Sorry about rant.

You need to spend a few minutes creating start menu items for all your apps, once you do that, you should find 10 (and 8 before that) is actually faster to do jobs. I can't think of any day to day jobs I can't do faster now. The amount of stuff sent back to MS might be a worry, but the ease of use is quickly mitigated, imho.
Personally I took the plunge as soon as I could, you're going to have to eventually or move to Apple or Linux, where suddenly installing hardware becomes more reminiscent of old Windows releases and the need to find the driver to see your CD Rom drive.

Comments about what???

Do you actually bother to read comments?
This chip has been available for many months, it regularly pops up on here, the advertised read/write speeds aren't even accurate for the first generation I bought, well over a year ago, let alone the current generation.
Obviously you could be unlucky and they've found a batch in a box hidden in a corner and are shifting these, but as I own 4 of these chips, all bought from either Ebay or direct all advertised at these speeds, all bar the very oldest performing at the speed I've quoted, I even went to the trouble of copying 40GB of data just to show that these chips perform well above the quoted numbers.
But if you want to persist in the belief that they're rubbish, me and the others who've bought them and been pleasantly surprised, won't lose any sleep.
