Overview
Latest 6th Generation Intel ® Core™ i7 Processors
The new 6th generation Intel processors require lower power consumption but deliver better performance than before. CPU performance of Core i7-6700HQ is 20% faster than i7-4720HQ under average usage.
Main Features:
This will be considerably faster while only forsaking needless latest gen i7 for 5700hq. I don't understand why it's so cheap - am I missing something? Make sure you pop in 8gb ram. Knock off OS if you have one to save even more.
OP's - 6700hq + 960m = 4667 on Firestrike (try others if you like)
Fangbook - 5700hq + 970m = 8614 on same test.
Preposterous! Am I missing something - 970 this cheap!?

You are probably best going to pcspecialist or similar. Play around with their laptop builder on site. Notebookcheck will show you the processor and gfx capabilities.
Hoping you may be able to help me out.
What's the best (new) 17.3 inch laptop/specs I can get for gaming for max £500-550 ?
Trying to find something that plays BF4 decently at least.
(At least 30FPS on high if possible)
Looking for one with a 1600x900 resolution as 1920x1280 may
be unnecessarily and disproportionately taxing on performance while 900p is fine for me personally.

Not a deal-breaker - but am I right in saying that this doesn't have the cool backlit keyboard?

Thanks. I went for the Star Wars one from PC World with a 940M GPU, £495 with this weekends 10% off.

That machine will be fine for those games. Skyrim and Dragon Age are ancient in terms of GPU requirements. I've even played Skyrim on an Intel HD machine. The only suggestion I would make is to see if you can find a 'm' instead of that 'h' CPU (4210h) as it will have a slightly lower power consumption. Useful if you're on the road.

How much jump is the 980 over the 970? I'm browsing!
Scroll down each page to see the fps achievable with each card on the games you play and choose what suits you best.
Personally I'm loving the GTX980M and average around 60fps in ultra settings in most games and I benchmark over 10,000 on 3dmark firestrike - See here.

The fangbook is a rebranded
MSI GE62. Over 8000 in firestrike with a GTX970m is unrealistic. The GTX980m only manages scores like that. (Ok with a vbios mod it could be unlocked and massively overclocked to achieve it).

I should have thought of MSI my mistake. MSI and Clevo laptops are regularly rebranded.

This isn't too bad. I got a i7 5700hq, 970m, 8gb ram, 128 gb ssd 1tb hdd for £650 a few weeks back.
960m is okay but the jump of power to the 970m is insane. 970m is like 2.5x faster

Does it make your tea too? Does it work on solar power? Does it match your carpet? No? Not worth it then.
Only want to play old games like Skyrim and Dragon Age on it.

fangbook isn't 17inch, not a direct comparison for those wanting a 17inch. there are tonnes of i7 15inch for around this price

That thrashes this deal, I'd go for the Fangbook. I'd even post it as a deal if I were you. I've had a look at other Fangbooks on there the 4 series, they look like Clevo to me. Means anyone could spec up one if they could get them from Clevo. I used to deal with Fortune technology in Stevanage and they were importers of Clevo stuff.

Just to give creadence, I'm using a 'b' grade MSI GT72 I got from overclockers and it's stellar.
Looks like there's only 4GB of slow RAM.
How about this: scan.co.uk
Only want to play old games like Skyrim and Dragon Age on it.
