apologies if invalid, but cant you get this phone (2gb version) direct from motorola using easter codes for less? around 149??
cantonbean to seattle
19 Mar 16#3
No. I bought one for my mum using student discount last night. The codes don't stack and the EASTER16 one didn't work. The £150 one on the Motorola site is the 8GB 1GB RAM model. The 16GB 2GB RAM model like this is an extra £30. I just went for the 8GB model for my mum as has SD card and she'll prefer the fact it is customised in pink and I like the fact it is waterproof! £135 decent price. I know 8GB model was about £90 on Vodafone ages ago but sometimes a little more for the personal touch is worth it!

The codes EASTER 16 and UKWELCOME10 do stack on the Motorola site giving you the 16gb model for £149

I presume you mean the 2nd gen. I have just tried it on 3rd gen 16GB and best price was 180

19 Mar 16#6
I tried it about 20 times last night and added the welcome one fine but wouldn't add the other. Tried refresh etc and acknowledged code but didn't work. When used student discount code it doesn't work with welcome 10...adds both but welcome 10 changed to invalid. Maybe both codes only work on the 16GB model?
natlor
19 Mar 16#7
No i mean the 3rd gen, I just tried the codes again on the site and they work fine on both 8GB and 16GB reducing the price from 180 to 149 for 16GB or 149 to 119 for 8GB
Stripped out all my cookies and got the welcome code to work but the easter one just comes up with "Please enter a valid promo code"

You must be doing something wrong then, it is a great phone if not as ground breaking as the earlier generations. If you've updated it but not wiped the cache partition that might be behind your experience.

Painfully slow and laggy. The marshmallow update has crippled it further. I barely have anything installed but it still runs like a dog, running clean master etc. barely makes a dent.

Still a fantastic phone for the price! With Android 6 Marshmallow, you can increase the internal memory with a micro SD. It will merge the SD with the internal memory and make it an even more brilliant phone.

when entering codes, make sure you dont add extra spaces in the end.. and make them capital, as people have suggested
Well got it sorted for me the issue was "EASTER 16" has a space in it and i had to use "EASTER16" to get it to work so thanks for all your helps guys and of course the OP.

I would have gone for Amazon myself with all the hassle i have been having but I am one of those poor saps who Amazon have emailed and said your returning too much stuff, and have threated to shut my account down, so now i only use them as a last resort or if they have a superb deal, their loss.

Don't get the 8 gb model. Storage space is appalling despite moving all apps to SD and all photos, music etc. Constant message of no storage with minimal apps. No more room for manoeuvre with it unless you clear cache everyday.

Very true but someone on here who claimed codes work told said they had to refresh page and try lots of times. TBF I was using Chrome on a chromebook late at night and not my mac. Could have tried different browsers on that but tbh I am still happy with the purchase as present for my mum with student discount.

Marshmallow runs like a dog for some people on Moto G 2nd and 3rd gen if you do an in place upgrade meaning you upgraded over the top of your existing OS (Lollipop). To rectify this make sure you have everything sync'd and backed up to your Google account (as long as you have enough space, if you don't use an alternative backup). Then get the phone in to recovery mode and do the following * (WARNING* This erases all your data and when the phone boots it will go through the setup wizard as if it's a new phone, so BACKUP you fool!) >
With the phone powered off, press and hold the Volume Down button and the Power button at the same time until the device turns on.
Press the Volume Down button to highlight "Recovery mode"
Press the Power button to restart into Recovery mode.
You'll see an image of an Android robot with a red exclamation mark.
While holding down the Power button, press the Volume Up button.
Use the volume buttons to scroll to "wipe data/factory reset" and press the Power button to select it.
Scroll down to "Yes - erase all user data" and press the Power button to select it.

Total overprice for this phone. I got my 1gb version for £70 , and you can just put in a 32gb micro sd card for a fiver?
Have to agree performance wise this is ''as fast'' as my 1st gen moto g, the 1st gen build quality seemed better as well.
But the thing I hate the most about is that it has got no notification light, and when you shake it the flashlight turns on maybe after 2 seconds not instantly..

You're making the classic mistake of comparing the 1gb version with the 2gb - they are two very different things

I had my trusty Samsung s4 mini for a number of years before it finally decided just to give up. Ordered this from Amazon last week and although it's bigger than the s4 mini, I must admit that I've been very pleased with the speed and responsiveness of the handset. I'm heavy on e-mails and browsing mainly, and the o/s seems 10x more fluid than my previous. I'd also noted that signal strength is much stronger - no longer having to sit beside the window at home to make a call. Camera is ok outside but indoor shots are still a bit meh! But I couldn't justify £500+ on a "flagship" phone, but am pleased I did not. I'm actually really starting to like this phone. It suits my needs.

it doesn't really merge with it, you can still only install apps that support being moved to SD card and when you download music with play music for offline play, you can no longer choose the storage location and it won't save to the SD card.

If you are like me and have been using this phone for some time and then upgraded to Marshmallow the idea of a factory reset is a little more of a pain.
You can just wipe the cache partition instead, though I don't think it'd be as efficient as the formentioned factory reset, but did make an improvement to the lag on mine when I upgraded.
The recommendation is to do the cache wipe eachtime an update hits.
To summarise:
Boot off phone
Hold down volume down and press power button
Menu comes up in black and white after around 4-5seconds
press up/down key until RECORVERY is selected and press power button.
phone reboots again with a green android with red triangle out of his/her tummy
Hold down power button and tap volume up button
Goto "wipe cache partition"
press power button to select it
confirm "YES" with vol up/down followed by the power button
Go and have a glass of water (much better for you than a cuppa coffee)
around 3-5mins later. (be patient, it can take longer)
Select "Reboot system now" with power button.
Jobs a goodun, hopefully a slightly snappier phone.

I have merged the card and it works well. The only problem is that you should not remove the card after. However, I always use a pen drive connected with a micro USB adapter to transfer stuff if I need to. You can also transfer over WiFi or store your stuff on the cloud. To be honest I was looking at buying another phone until the update came for my moto g as 8gb is nowhere near enough. If there are any problems, I have not seen them yet. The benefits are just so huge so far.

Not worth the money IMO. The whole point of the Moto G was that it was supposed to be a cheap phone that offered reasonable features for the price. If it was ~£100 or so, it would be a good deal but at this price, it's not good value given the other phones that it will compete again. I'd rather spend £150 on a used S5 or G4 than this or play another £30 for a One Plus, P8 etc, or pay £100 for a SU6 and if you just want a cheap, basic Android phone the Moto E for £70 represents better value.
Alloneword to Picard123

Or you could be picking up a bargain. I've got friends who upgrade every couple of years because they like the latest gadgets. They just ditch the old ones on Ebay and all they have on them is a scuff or two on the corners. All you have to do is find an honest phone from an honest seller and if you do your due diligence, you can easily sort the wheat from the chaff.

You Could well be getting a bargain or problems it's the chance you take on ebay but given this phone is going to be used as a back up in an emergency then i wanted peace of mind, that is my side of the coin but everyone's case is different

If you want a backup phone for emergencies, you don't need to spend £150 on an overpriced Moto G. That's just throwing money away.
