Can't imagine buying it without doing it as an upgrade though, it is £100 doing an upgrade.

I'd post that upgrade deal man that's a very nice price if you tick the right eligibility boxes!

Looks nicely designed but what's the Snapdragon 212 like? I thought the 200 range was for the low, low end.

The 212 is basically an overclocked Snapdragon 400. It performs roughly the same as a Lumia 640/735/830. It runs most things well on W10M, but it's not so great with gaming.
The actual hardware is very nice for the price. It's light, thin, well built, and has a great looking screen.

For me this has been running smoothly (much smoother on games too compare to the 550!)
tested on games Modern Combat 5, Order & Chaos, Tetris Blitz, Dragon Blade 1&2 (very good rpg)
and there are loads of movies apps which works well with Smart Tv's  Have been using Kodi much less due to this

It's actually also cheaper at CPW without the PAYG Upgrade option. It's £119.99 on PAYG + £10 Top Up, so £129.99 total. All CPW handsets are unlocked/SIM Free variants, no matter if Pay Monthly or PAYG (apart from iPhones which lock to the network of the first inserted SIM). Never buy a "SIM Free" handset from Carphone Warehouse unless it's cheaper than the PAYG price as the handsets are identical.

Can't find it with their pay as you go phones man, only sim free at £139.99 and contract/contract upgrade at various prices? Have you got a link, may pop on to cpw tomorrow if it's £129.99 inc top up. Cheers.
I was considering this as a cheap option after being disappointed with the 950 but went to a 930 instead, the only reason difference is the front selfie camera

No. All phones (apart from iPhones) from CPW are the SIM Free/Unlocked variants, it doesn't matter which network you select, the phones will not be network branded. A PAYG handset from CPW will be an unlocked version bundled with a separate SIM.

...but who the hell uses Vodafone?!??

iPhones are also unlocked, but they lock to the first inserted sim's network I think?

Yes that's correct.
I have 6 Vodafone PAYG SIM cards that I keep specifically to get 'Upgrade' deals from CPW.

Good idea, but do they need to be topped up to stay alive?

Not that I've found. They originally had £10 pre-loaded, but haven't been topped up since. I just make sure to place a phone call to them every few months to keep them active. I've used one 4 times now for upgrades.

JoeSpur, they price match in store so if you have an O2 sim and vodaphone is the cheapest, you can do the upgrade with the O2 sim for the vodaphone price.

I have one too. Had been topped up with £15 and credit had been used for data and texts and still wouldn't show up as eligible. Sim was over 6 months old as well. It's been a few months now since that top up and still won't let me use it for an upgrade
According to CW it needs a monthly top up of £15 to be eligible.

Also forgot to add, screen is one of the best out there, I mean I still get amaze by looking at it in all angles!

That was meant to say "good idea"
I used my O2 upgrade when 550 came out. I think it's a 6 month wait until I'm allowed to again
