This DHP459 18V Lithium-ion 2 speed cordless hammer drill/driver is built to last with a highly efficient brushless motor.

The metal gearbox has 2 speed/variable speed settings including reverse and hammer action with a 13mm keyless heavy duty chuck, drilling up to 13mm into masonry, 13mm into steel and 38mm into wood providing up to 1'500rpm and 22'500bpm, making it ideal for use in a variety of materials.
It also has twin LED job light with Afterglow for use in low visibility applications together with a conveniently located push button for forward and reverse.
The well balanced, extra lightweight 1.7kg design of the DHP459 makes transportation around the worksite easy without compromising on power, whilst the ergonomic soft grip handle provides maximum user comfort reducing fatigue on prolonged use and providing greater tool control.

I am ordering rite now amazing price battery and drill alone worth over 119 squid and brushless tools last longer on the battery will eventually upgrade everything, if you allready have a charger you can sell this one for around £20-£25 and maybe get £10-£15 for the box if it is surplus to requirements

Nice price, decent kit and 3Ah battery with 22min charge time. I have the higher torque version (458) and it's superb quality (but about 60% more expensive)

blimey its quite easy to work out.No need for all the sarcasm from people.you put a socket type head on the end, much like garages use for car wheels etc but a lot less torque.
how ever you really need a special low speed high torque one.

This looks a fantastic deal. I bought a Makita 456 (not brushless) for £107 with 2 batteries and an aluminium case a few months ago. I'm really happy with it but id have been all over this if it'd been up before. Heated.

Need a new drill for general DIY, decking, house projects etc. I am not a professional and won't be using the drill daily or even weekly for that matter. Like the look of this drill, is it worth investing in decent bit of kit, rather than mess around with cheaper alternatives? Is this drill considerably better than the Stanley Fatmax posted a few days ago?
this is a better drill and I wouldn't hesitate to but it over the Stanley. the build quality will be better and it will last you a lot longer. there are also many other tools that can be used with the same batteries/charger.
on paper it may seem there isn't much difference, but its worth the investment. unless your only going to use a drill on rare occasions...

13 Mar 16#40
yes will be fine as a house drill will drill wood bricks ect with correct drill bit , not much good for decking you would be wanting a impact driver due to screw lengths needed and another couple of battery's.

My old Makita Drill/Driver is on its way out. NiCad battery doesn't last long and the chuck on the drill is starting to fail after several years.
I've been holding out for the brushless models to drop in price and would also like to get a Impact driver this time. I've read on other deals that one of the reasons these bundles are dropping in price is that Makita are moving to bundling 4Ah battery's now. Actually even a pair of 2Ah/1.5Ah battery's would do me, has anyone seen any decent deals on a pack with these?
Or alternatively what would I be looking at to get another small capacity battery plus impact driver on top of this pack (compatible with the battery in this pack)?

Screwfix often do the 1.5ah version for £25 - I got one and makes the drill and impact driver lovely and light for tasks around the house
twinkle007
13 Mar 16#42
Thanks pirattitude and kris. Looks like the DHP456 has slightly more torque, but is not brushless. Trying to work out whether I can justify paying £130 for a drill that I won't use too often, but it will hopefully last for years. Any problems with the batteries over time, i.e. do they have a shelf life if not used often?

I think your the thick numbnuts @ paneds. I'm going to reach out on a limb here, but the question was from someone with a user name of "Jodiemille" I don't know any female scaffolders, It's safe to assume that she's enquiring to buy something for her other half as a present.
As such she may not know the difference between a drill and an impact driver 'numbnuts'
That there is not a combi drill so it doesn't have a hammer action and that's why it is called a drill driver.

I need a new drill and want a Makita because of the quality and longevity. Its just for stuff around the house. It is not urgent so I can wait. Question is, should I wait for a better deal? I need something that can do everything, and this looks good for the heavier stuff? I really need something for putting screws in as well so perhaps there will be a two pack deal or something like that? Or should I just buy this and then buy whatever else I need for screwing etc separately? Want to spend less than £200 all in, ideally under £150.

I have a similar dilemma as I don't need the drill/driver right now.
At the current price point this is close to the figures you have quoted that you want to spend.
Assuming you can make do with one battery (i.e. you won't need to use the impact driver and drill/driver at the same time) you can pickup a decent Makita Impact Driver body for ~£50. That would make the total outlay £170.
Or if you do need another battery, but can make do with a 1.5ah second battery, Supercharged kindly pointed out Screwfix often do those at £25. Add that to the above and you come in at £195, just under your £200 max.

If you can do without brushless, Bosch do a set for £90 with 2x 2Ah batts, the bare impact driver can be picked up for £70 odd
Also the Bosch driver has a lot more torque than the Makita. Makita may be a bit better overall than Bosch, but more nickable on site. Either way worth trawling for reviews...

Well I thought I'd made my mind up and was just about to buy this drill, but then someone posted a deal for a Dewalt:
Both the Bosch and Dewalt have greater torque, and two batteries, however the Bosch is not brushless. Also Dewalt is more expensive.....decisions, decisions!!
I expect the brushless will only make a real difference if battering the kit day in day out on site...

Thanks Korhan, does the drill move around in the makpak box? Never seen one in the flesh but the pictures seem to indicate no moulding so the drill battery etc. will move around? Am I mistaken?
korhan

They're isn't any moulding however it has small slots it sits in if that makes any sense. It would slip out of place if you shook it about but otherwise ok. I'll double check for you tonight
