Easy to be offended, but difficult to deny the facts. Multiple terrorist attacks in Turkish cities over the last year, including one at Istanbul's 2nd airport in December. Holiday bookings reportedly down 40%. I work in the travel industry and our flights to Turkey have been reduced enormously this coming summer. The government's recent attacks on the free press and the ongoing refugee crisis. Proximity to Syria and domestic conflict with the Kurds.
All in all, while Istanbul is a fascinating city, I don't think now is a great time to visit as a tourist.

They are the ones being set on fire.

You're right I do need a holiday. But you trying to make a light hearted joke about a terrorist attack is a bit low. Let's hope something like this doesn't happen where you live hey? I'm sure you want saying similar things after the 7/7 attacks in London. Unless you are a Kurds of course, where terrorism is in your blood

Guess you were not on the 777 then as it looks ok for a short haul - http://www.headforpoints.com/2016/02/28/review-turkish-airlines-boeing-777-business-class/

It seems TK use 777 once a day and then A330 and A321 - I like QR for my flights, it's in a different league - then again you need to make sure you are on the best aircraft!

Just got back from China via TK, plane change in IST.

The business class from LON to IST wasn't great, the seats are like really worn out, I thought it was premium economy when I first saw it. The IST to PEK leg biz class was much better so it definitely varies, wouldn't say LON to IST is worth it in biz class, especially for such a short flight.

Having lived in Istanbul for a number of months on and off and a frequent visitor, I would certainly concur that as it stands, Istanbul is indeed in its unsafest it has been in years. However, as the city has been so well protected over the years, even with the new situation it is still one of the safest in that part of the world.

It is telling that terror attacks are happening in Ankara and not Istanbul. When it is Istanbul, it is normally a very distant suburb. That is because Istanbul is on a form of a lock down with intelligence and police operations on a near daily basis making sure nothing upsets the peace. Purely down to the fact that Istanbul is the economic motor of Turkey and that motor is fueled by the services sector. Istanbul's manufacturing industries also largely rely on the city being a hub of commerce and tourism.

Long story short, I would still go to Istanbul and be on the vigilant side. I would not go out of Istanbul to other places unless I have to.

Let's keep it straight, Erdogan is pure evil, and he is personally a big supporter of ISIS just like Saudis, but people of Turkey hates ISIS (historically Turks and Arabs do not get on well) and they don't deserve to die that way. I don't see any reason for you to be happy, thinking you proved something. This is a representation of humanity at its lowest point, lacking basic skills of compassion and empathy. Keep watching the world from the horse blinders of Daily Mail.

Also for fans of Kurdish here, I have friends who are Kurdish and they are not worse or nicer than my Turkish friends. Knowing a person doesn't justify a point. Last month Kurdish terrorist group TAK controlled by PKK bombed Ankara and killed 29 innocent people including kids. They took full pride and ownership of it, even so HDP (legal Kurdish party in Turkish parliament) MPs visited the house of identified suicide bomber to share their gratitude with their family. So, don't imagine romantic Che-looking Kurdish freedom fighters when you hear about PKK guerillas, they aren't any less evil.

Hi,
I didn't say the market was awash with cheap flights. I said the CAPACITY, or seats available for sale, have been greatly reduced this year in anticipation of, and reacting too, a big decrease in demand for holidays in Turkey. Less capacity supports the price, hence the high price for you are being asked to pay for your school holiday flight.
However, if demand continues to fall and seats are unsold, the price will fall. Which may well explain the Turkish Airlines sale we are discussing.
As a real world example. A popular northern UK regional airport that my airline works from will have seven fewer Turkey flights a week this summer. That is roughly 35000 less seats available to Turkey over the summer season from one regional airport.

I literally flew this route 2 days ago, prices are consistently in the mid to late £80s. They were the cheapest airline flying into London for my dates and so as a first timer with these guys I expected little. HOWEVER, free 20kg luggage, brand new airplane, leather seats with tablet entertainment, lots of leg room, Turkish delight snacks at take off, free alcohol and a salmon dinner made for a very enjoyable flight. Dare I say, one of my best.

As for security and terrorism....come on guys. If you heed all you read and see in the media you'd never leave your house.
Istanbul on Friday was safe and the tourist attractions had a good amount of police and security.
Get on it!

I don't agree with OOM's post, but yours is worse sttil!

You say "People like you shouldn't be allowed to post full of hate and lies." Expressing an opinion is not hateful.

You say "People like you shouldn't be allowed to post" It is Erdogan who has degraded free speech and newspapers in Turkey. Would you encourage the same censorship on HUKD?

You say "Yes the crazy man is a dictator " AGREED

You say "but do you think that reflects the opinions of Turkish people?" Well, the Turks have democratically elected him twice, so for a large amount of Turks in Turkey, the answer must be Yes.

You say "Have you forgotten those British terrorists leaving the UK to join ISIS?!" Neither country is FULL of terrorists, but there is good evidence that there is a flow of radicalised people traveling west from Syria towards Europe, of all sorts of nationality. Turkey has a porous border with Syria and until that is stopped this will continue to be a problem.

You say "Unless you can make informed posts don't bother!" Well, it certainly would make for a more peaceful world if we all made considered arguments instead of hotheaded statements.

Always amazes me how people won't let facts get in the way of a good story.
Accusations of trolling and worse simply don't equate to the fact that the general public are well on the way to regarding Turkey in the same light as Tunisia and Egypt (Sharm) as unsafe destinations. Currently, major UK airlines are not going to these destinations for security reasons. The travel industry is waiting with baited breath (and trembling bowels) for how things will turn out in Turkey. At the moment western European tourists are voting with their feet and bookings in Spain, for example, are sky rocketing (as are prices). Turkey is one terrorist attack on tourists away from becoming another no-go zone. Erdogan is not doing anything to reassure the West that he wants Turkey to remain a safe, secular democracy. But, I have some sympathy for him, as being a power broker between East and West has never been a comfortable or secure position.

I dont recall Istanbul having worst bomb attacks then London or another city. And the government is no worst then other governments which I hate all of them. Turkish airlines is the best airlines in Europe officially and you wouldn't get that good food on a business class flight on another airline and theirs seats are nice ,large and comfortable plus they don't don't charge for food nor seats with extra gaps.unlimited free alcohol as long as to drink like a normal human being with a responsibility. And Istanbul is a place that no one should speak before they see,it's nice, different, have great food and places to see, the bosphours would be enough in fact there is no other place like Istanbul . regarding the refugees I though all of you felt sorry for them poor people and I thought all of you were against governments and racist people as you believed that those people should be supported because they didn't move out of their countries, they have been forced to to that. So Turkey has more than 3 million refugees from Syria alone which is another good reason for you to support the country I believe
