Some Life Mobile deals have been posted and people commenting they are not as good as last month. 3Gb + 3000 mins + unlimited txt still available through Broadband Choices at £10.45 rather than USwitch whose prices have went back up.
I have 2 Life Sims. Signal as good as my EE work phone. 3G is good and an improvement on Virgin. Next to no difference when I have compared it with O2 4G. Customer Service have been brilliant. I called them to port and to switch deals with no problems.

I'm in ID and not had a problem, i was lucky i got on to there initial promotion 2000 mins & unlimited data for 20 bucks pm. Id piggy backs on 3's network which is good where i live so it was a simple choice. Been with them 1.5 years and never called customer services, their app is excellent 100x better than 3.

On the other hand I put my mum on Life about 4 months ago, as they had the best signal where she lived and there as a cheap deal on uswitch. They didnt have a app and the website information was out of date so she had to call to port her number etc. Great service over the phone.
For me Id is beter cause i dont have to speak to anyone and can do it all myself, but if you like taking to people go for life..... At the end of the day it all comes down to signal so go down the supermarket and buy a load of £1 sim card stick them in your phone and see which one works best.

How can you compare 500 mins to 3000 mins????

I looked at ID but the reviews and comments about their customer service put me off. I have 2 sims and dealt with Life for porting and switching deals. Answer phone right away and very good to deal with. Switching deal was simple but apparently with ID it's a nightmare and you have to get a new sim.

even if the service is the red carpet treatment how often do you actually need to call these people......and the have to accommodate you anyway it's not as if they can refuse you as a customer.

The 3g is very good I don't see the snobbery around 4g the 3g is faster than a lot of people's home broadband and that's a bad thing apparently. what exactly do you need 4g for that a good 3g connection won't do.........

It's a shame about broadbandchoices. I was under the impression they were independent and objective unlike Moneysupermarket, uSwitch and all the rest - until they gave the game away with their "exclusive" deals. I wonder if there are any comparison sites left that just want to help people as opposed to just offer faux 'help' for profit and commission.

Signed up to the 6GB (3G only) 13.95 tarriff. No problem with the company in terms of customer service, little waiting times on phone, Happy sounding CS reps willing to help.

As its a 30 day rolling contract i happy with that till something better comes along but i very much doubt they will launch 4G services on their 30 day plans with tethering at those prices as they are owned by EE/BT who will not what them to be too competitive. Hopefully will be proved wrong on that

3G wasn't an issue for me. I went from 3 to Virgin before life. I have checked it against 3 4G and 3 was faster. When I checked it against o2 there was practically no difference (on a LG G4). I can also get mobile internet at my doctors which I could never get with Virgin.

One thing I've noticed that, in areas where a mast has been upgraded to 4G, the 3G speeds tend to be improved massively as well. The only difference really will be the upload speeds - which will almost always be higher over a 4G network.

I'm on a 4G plan myself and get 4G almost everywhere, but when running a speed test over 3G (set my device to 3G only) the speed test results are nearly always very similar - apart from the upload speeds
pibpob
31 Mar 16 #30
That may be your experience, but you can't extrapolate that to everyone, nor into the future. Having access to 4G as well as 3G means you have access to more radio spectrum. When the spectrum gets congested, if you have access to more of it you have access to more data.

I'm with Life and rate them highly but they've been saying this for as long as they've been around.

When I joined I emailed before and asked about 4G and was told they were rolling it out (I mentioned in the email that I wouldn't join unless I knew 4G was on the way) and I would have it within the next month or two.

I emailed again last week to be told the initial email was a lie but they are 'planning' on it.

I rate their service but they basically lie a lot about 4G.

They've told me that handset customers with them are starting to get it.
No idea about 4g,so I was also lied to initially, at least they now admit they don't know when it'll come. Just that it definitely will..
Wotan
31 Mar 16 #36
I didn't even know they had handset contracts. There's no mention on their website.

I'd say don't hold your breath for 4G.

But I pay £6 a month. 3G speeds are around 15mb which is more than enough for my needs and customer service has always been great when I've called.

I was a little irked about being lied to re 4G but for £6 a month I quickly got over it.

If a deal comes up that has 4G for a little more then I'll switch. Until then I'm happy enough.

Well certainly lots of proof in this thread that EE's annoying Kevin Bacon adverts did the trick in convincing people they need 4G.

Sure, faster is better but 'decent' 3G is absolutely fine for the vast majority of peoples needs, and don't give me the buffer face nonsense!

And its not like 4G actually means you are guaranteed a specific speed, GiffGaff have 4G but its slower than most peoples 3G (or most dial up modems tbh).
mb1
31 Mar 16 #43
They definitely are rolling out 4G shortly for a small additional fee. I was asked to look at the trial plans as a customer to provide feedback as to whether I'd pay extra for it. As it's EE, yes, I would.

well you must be using either a rubbish phone or live in a lead lined house......

I've used 3g for ages and very rarely have buffering, only when the signal is low.....which would happen the same with 4g.

But if you want to pay a premium for 4g then by all means go ahead, you can pay the premium and when the networks have recuperated their investment the rest of us will gladly have 4g at the proper price. At which point you will be paying a premium for 5g

adi0604
1 Apr 16 #51
What a useless way of comparing!!
I was also on Life and wife on EE in the same house she would get better reception than me. 1) 4G 2) Direct EE main provider hence priority than Life mobile (part of EE 2nd class) piggy bank on EE 3g only.
lukec36
1 Apr 16 2 #52
Sorry but you don't know what you're talking about fella.

It's pretty simple. People are slating Life because it is 3G only. On HSPA+ through Life I was able to get download speeds of 20Mbps+ consistently.

Since moving to Vodafone, my 4G download speeds have never been higher than 15Mbps, in various geographical locations.

So clearly it is a false argument for people to say that because Life only operate on 3G they are not worth considering.

I'm on Vodafone directly, not via an MVNO, so that's not going to be the issue. Also, Life is actually a subsidiary of EE so I'm not sure that their priority would be lower. And, this is always a bit of a dubious argument anyway.
In direct comparisons I have done at the same time in the same location between O2 and Tesco mobile, I consistently had better signal and faster data with Tesco than a contract O2 sim, comparing over a number of weeks.

So, horses for courses, your mileage may vary, but people who say "3G cold" are the same people who would buy a 128gb iPhone and only use 10gb of storage. Numbers alone don't tell the whole story.
MrPuddington
1 Apr 16 #53
Yes, that was my experience, too. EE provides very good speed indeed on 4G, and Three is not bad either (if you have coverage) - both are clearly better the 3G network. Virtual networks often get lower speeds, so the difference may not be significant.
pibpob
1 Apr 16 #54
That's a non-sequitor. 4G not only operates on different frequencies (and could it also be coming from different masts?), but "signal is low" is not the only reason why the data rate might be low: it may also be due to congestion in the bands, for instance.

I'm not saying that 4G is as important to have as some people might be claiming, but there are many factors at work so it's dangerous to make simplistic comparisons.
adi0604
1 Apr 16 #55
It is really a matter of personal experience. If you read my post I have already mention Life part of EE and my experience with both.
No saying cold coz of 3G but in this case you do get what you pay for!
djames108
1 Apr 16 #56
its hardly dangerous, this is after all about a mobile signal and speed

in a nutshell stop being 4g snobs as you don't really need it, but if you want it so be it. In relation to this thread life mobile provides an excellent deal. stating that it is only 3g therefore a bad deal is idiotic.
pibpob
1 Apr 16 #57
I'm not being a "4G snob" - I'm countering your false information.
Bigbil
1 Apr 16 #58
Countering false information - honestly.
At the end of the day this is a good value deal for 3G with loads of minutes and unlimited txt. Some people (including myself) are happy with decent 3G and aren't interested in paying more for 4G. I have already posted a screen dump of how fast my 3G is and that's more than enough for me (faster than some people's home broadband). Out of the 5 times I have tested it with tethering, only once has it been below 20Mb/s. Several members have posted how happy they are with their Life Sims.
I only posted this for the benefit of the people who missed out on last month's good deals.

Please stop pushing you're 4G argument. No one's interested unless you can come up with an identical deal on 4G for the same cost.
Cheers
pibpob
1 Apr 16 #59
Ah, you're the OP? Is that why you're being so precious about it? It doesn't allow you to get away with making plainly wrong statements about the technology.
Sure - I never said it wasn't - so why are you assuming I'm attacking the deal when I'm only pointing out your false assumptions?
I'm not "pushing" any 4G argument - I'm taking you to task for pushing an anti-4G argument which is simply incorrect. There is a difference you know.
And again you're pushing the same false information - that 4G (with 3G fallback) is no better than 3G on its own - because if it was, it wouldn't have to be identical for it to be comparable in value.
Bigbil
1 Apr 16 #60
What are you on about, as the OP I've not made any 'wrong' statements about 4G. That was other members. I have only made statements about 3G which are not 'wrong'. I've made NO statements about technology for them to be plainly wrong. I did not make any of the comments you have attributed to me.
You have came in from the start trying put your case across for 4G and 'win' your side of the argument that you're intent on having. I only commented as you shouldn't be having a go at other members.
Pushing the same false information - You're the one not comparing like for like. Your the one that starting banging on about 4G on a 3G deal. Other members are entitled to respond and I don't think any of their comments have been 'false'
I have posted no false information, so please check your facts before making pitiful accusations.
Why are you adding (sic) into my comments?
pibpob
1 Apr 16 #61

Better to pay £1.45pm extra and go for Virgin £12 pm deal with Unlimited minutes albeit 2GB data (enough for most that have WIFI at home and work). The additional advantage with Virgin that can save a packet is free inclusive 084/087 calls. These can also be used to make unlimited free international calls. Further, Virgin are usually extremely good at discounting if you are planning to leave.
