Not bad smartphone considering its price, no topup needed.

I am not sure this is 1GB RAM phone.
LG has mentioned there are 2 versions, one with 512 MB RAM and Dual Core. Another 1GB RAM and Quad-Core.
O2 has listed has 1GB RAM and Dual Core. One of them is definitely wrong. Also all other UK retailers seemed to have only 512MB RAM and Dual Core.

But it also states it has 8GB ROM, which would suggest it's the 1GB model as the 512MB model only has 4GB. It would be difficult to tell, Someone at O2 either got the wrong spec sheet or the incorrect promotion material.

I would guess that its the 4GB/512MB version. It's listed as 3G only in the tech spec, which is the SD200 Dual Core, 4GB Storage, 512MB RAM version (The 4G version is SD410 Quad-Core, 8GB Storage, 1GB RAM)
Even the specs at GSMArena are mixed up. It lists the specs for the low end version, but also notes that it works with several LTE bands, which only the higher spec SD410 version supports.
Also, the LG Joy's unlocked and Virgin Mobile variants are the lower spec version. I would be surprised if LG started to sell the higher spec 'Joy' in the UK, as it is barely any different to the LG Leon which was released alongside the Joy (along with the LG Spirit).

the only way to find out is to go to o2 shop and ask them to show the box- most important specs will be advertised on it, I would say it is 50/50 possibility...

Lol reading all the reviews at the bottom of the o2 page: "Average phone, basic, not a good phone, painful to use, you get what you pay for comes to mind".....comments get worse on page 2 "the phone did not work, Tap unlock is a real problem"

Checked on gsmarena, it has 512 ram. Wrong info on O2
In a similar spirit, can someone recommend a cheap but decent Android phone for an older person - ideally not too expensive, but with a large screen, can be low-res, but not too slow and with a recent version of Android?
This is a great deal, but I wonder if 1GB RAM is enough? (I have 3GB on mine and no problems of course)

If you like android then maybe spring £100 for a vodaphone smart Ultra 6 (+ a couple of quid to unlock it via ebay sellers), as its by all means an extremely well specced phone with a large screen.
If you want something easy to use that won't fall behind in software updates maybe a cheap windows phone? From Amazon you can get a brand new lumia 550 for £60, or a for £110 a lumia 640 (better camera, faster processor). There's also "very good" used lumia 640s for £75 in the amazon warehouse. I got a Blu win HD LTE (similar spec to the 640) for the GF, and she finds its very easy to use.

281 degrees and no clear answer as to whether it is the 4g 1gb/8gb or the 3g 512/4gb version.
Has anybody actually got their hands on one?

even for 3G version it is a good price, I saw in Asda today - LG Joy on o2 clearly 3G only for 49 quid...

GSM Arena mixed them up stating 512mb RAM version is LTE handset, in fact only 1Gb RAM version supports LTE.
