As it's VWFS it has to go to a limited company (NOT a sole trader).

March 16 reg 190bhp DSG 2.0 Turbodiesel with 19" alloy and dynamic chassis control upgrades. Titanium Silver. Contracted 30K miles in total, done about 23.5K. Extra mileage 7.2p per mile but for about another month you could get mileage extended at about 3.5p per mile (can't change when only 6 months of contract to go, so that's September 22nd).

£265 p/m is the figure I'm paying now including the extra mileage. Cheap motoring for 6/7 months if anyone is interested.

The last car I sent back had several scratches and dents and the front bumper resprayed from a bump. I took it to my local bodyshop but he got confused what he was meant to fix. I was expecting a big bill but nothing so far ( that was 5 months ago) the bloke who picked it up made a note of all the damage but he said they were all within tolerances, he had a stencil thing to gauge the damage. He was from BCA auctions and said small damage doesn't matter as it will have a refurb before it goes to auction.

Most of the comments I have read on here suggest a fiver a day is plenty for them.

I remember that too, oh how we all love our Alltrack's for a fiver a day!

I love the car too. The issue is that it's easier to complain than praise.

I loved the car, budget however allowed me to pick up an M235i recently and I no longer had a use for the VW.

We actually love the car, and get great mpg out of it and lots of toys on it too. Only looking into options as we know we will be way over the mileage, but had chose not to pay the extra upfront for more miles as it was cheaper to pay after the deal.

This isn't an option because you are only 'renting' the car, so it isn't yours to part ex, if that makes sense.

I said earlier in the thread that VWs were overrated rubbish and nobody believed me, now some of you can't wait to get rid of them even though they are costing next to nothing.

Register on the VWFinanxe website with your agreement number. It will generate your settlement figure, which if owned over a year is roughly 45% of the remaining rentals. Then you call them and pay.

I would have thought it would be cheaper to hand the lease over to someone? Loads would be willing no doubt given the low cost of these? Is that even possible? (I'm keeping mine though!)

Does anyone know how you can exit this deal early? Is it the same as other cars, i.e. get a settlement figure etc.

"...measured paint thickness..." I had my doors resprayed as a lorry had side swiped me so I guess the inspection will bring this up. I hope they won't kick off saying it's poor repair and start charging me an obscene amount of money as I don't fancy going thru the insurance/body shop to get this rectified again.
If my car fails the paint inspection, do I have any rights to have this sorted by the lorry company's insurance company or do they simply wipe their hands clean saying it passed the paint match (when it was resprayed)?

Inspection was totally fine. Inspected it inside and out, took photos from all angles. Checked each wheel and tyre. Measured paint thickness all around to look for respray. Ran it and took photos of dash.
No issues found.

Says car will likely go straight to dealer rather than an auction as it's in such good nick. FYI, inspection and collection are on two separate days, so had to take two days off work, and they don't do weekends. So plan accordingly!

I don't think VWFS will be notified by your bodyshop. I got side-swiped by an ASDA lorry in Dec and needed 2 new drivers side doors. New ones were ordered and needed one side of the car completely resprayed (inc front and rear wings + blending).The key thing is to get a proper job done so that colour match is 100% as VWFS may charge you for another respray (I would assume about £750 for 2 panels)...but they'll probably skip the respray, pocket the money and send the car straight to BCA auctions

I think you would be best asking elsewhere. This is thread is nearly 18 months old, I can't see many people checking it regularly.

I personally would get a quote from a reputable garage and see whether it would be better financially to sort it all privately.

Guyz, i have been in a minor accident where my side doors a bit damaged and are scratched..so what would be the best thing to do here? As i think going with the insurance will make my insurance premium much high for next few years..
Shall i go for the volkswagon approved repairers? Please any advice would be really helpful as i have never been in a situation like this before

When I asked VWFS about extension they said they can probably extend by few months and maybe up to 3 mth if I placed a new order awaiting delivery. It's not a guarantee but I don't think it'll do any harm asking nearer the time

Depends, a big firm like VW Finance is unlikely to resort to real people to make such decisions - if their systems provide automated prices for lease extensions then no reason for it not to happen here too despite the pricing error, but I actually have no idea if they offer such a thing. I do recall reading here that they do offer limited extensions but perhaps not for full years.

You're already paying well under the odds due to a computer error and want to keep it for another 24 months at the same reduced rate such that their car will be worth significantly less at the end of the rental period with no extra income coming their way in return, therefore causing them an even bigger loss. What do YOU think?

I just changed my mileage from 5000pa to 10000pa which has increased my monthly payment from £125 to £152 for the remaining 11 months. So £297 extra plus the £60 admin fee.

That's gonna save me a few quid.

Strange, assuming you mean an increase of 10,000 miles over the entire term and not per year (though you have less than a year remaining so I suppose it comes to the same thing). I definitely was charged only an increase of under £20 a month to double my mileage allowance which I accepted - but with your quote you'd be better off paying the surcharge.

i've just doubled checked and original mileage was 10,000 new mileage 20,000 payments go from £97.20 to £199.20 for 10 months. Plus the £60 admin fee. Its through VW Financial Services.

I'm just going through a quote for an extra 10,000 miles at the minute and my quote is effectively £360.
My payments will go from £120 to £150 and then a £60 excess charge.

Just been quoted for 10,000 excess mileage and was quoted an additional £1020 for the excess. Crazy as paying the excess would only be £720!

In case anyone looking for tyres, I damaged sidewall on one so I got 3 off Oponeo for £133 each, cheapest elsewhere was £165, I am using the spare for the 4th and putting the part worn off the back as the spare. Fitting cost just over £30 at local garage. In the end around same price as fitting 4 mid-budget tyres without the worry of rejection by VW. Just hope they last to the end of lease but I got 15000 out of the front so should be okay.

The wiper thing is intentional, I think it is o the rubber doesn't sit in the same place all the time.

Mine puts itself in S sometimes when I just want it in E all the time. I wasn't sure if it was to aid engine warming?

Yes, can't remember if it's here or another forum but a number of people (myself included) have experienced the same thing. Somebody said VW had suggested it was an economy feature to prevent Sport being used automatically but if that is genuinely the case they should change the centre console display too!

Anyone else notice that if you leave it in sport mode that it does not actually stay in sport mode between drives?
For example on the centre console it will say "sport", but in the instrument display the gear number has a "d" next to it and is not driving in sport mode. Once you select sport again, the "D" changes to an "S" and it drives in sport.

Very strange and very annoying from someone who just wants it in sport mode all the time.

I have just been looking through the bit of paper they gave me "Driver/Hirer: Key Information Responsibilities" and the BVRLA booklet on fair wear and tear.

I now don't know where the 3mm came from, the booklet talks about legal minimum, the paper doesn't.

Mine is going in for a service on the 30th, I will be asking about tyre wear and options for replacements then.
I actually ordered direct from the dealer and the chap was very good.

I agree on maybe buying three new ones and using the spare if that makes financial sense (or is a bit easier)

OK just spoke to the guy at the dealer who arranged my lease, he said as long as tyres are the same size and spec and all the same on AWD cars it would be fine I asked if the spec included self seal which apparently the Continentals are and he said no. The form we signed as part of the lease agreement seems to back this up it says" Key Information Responsibilities
"Replace any worn or damaged tyres with the same factory specification as originally supplied with the vehicle. You must ensure that you replace the tyres with the correct size and speed ratings."
My other dilemma as I have wrecked one is go for three of the Continentals and use spare for £500, risk is they may wear out again before end of lease or something more budget but hard wearing eg Falcon for nearly £500 for 4?
Would be good if someone else could confirm with their supplier too rather than their local dealer?

As I understand it, you have to hand it back with the same as the originals.
Some people have suggested changing and keeping the originals at 3mm for a cheaper set and then swapping back later.
I am wondering if VW would allow something a bit more durable instead, I personally wouldn't put another set of these on if I owned the car.
I am probably looking at only 8000 miles from mine.

When changing tyres is it necessary to put premium tyres on? Reckon I will need a full set just before handing it back. Will there be any issue handing it back with a set of chinese specials?

My local dealer said the tyres must be the same. Mine wore down to 4mm only after 6000miles and as they are £600 a set, I didn't want to put a new set for the next owner. So I popped down to a scrappie and got a set of 2nd hand alloys/tyres for £40 for the set so I'm currently driving around in Audi wheels:) I'm going to put the original VW ones back just before I hand the car back.

Is no one else pestered by the dealer for an annual oil change service? I have a funny feeling I was on the long life service interval (car acquired via NVS broker), and then the vehicle went in to the dealers for a quick fault fix and they have changed it to the annual one? Wonder if I can investigate somehow , any mention on original paperwork or shall I ring the VW helpline?

The vehicle is displaying I need an oil change at 7200 miles or something like that when I go and check, currently sitting on 6500, however almost a year since the car was acquired, no alarm bells on the car yet but assuming becuase a year is almost over, they want me to book it in.

Also worried, if I book it in before the exact 1 year is up, I will need a second service just before handover?

Also how much is the oil service if anyone has had one done?

+1 the abs/speed sensor detects minor difference etc so there's apparently no sensor on the alloy side

It may just use the ABS sensors (or something like that), I think I read that somewhere.

I'm sure I read in the handbook that the spare doesn't have a pressure sensor, I pressed accept tyre pressures when I put on the spare so either it does or it is happy monitoring 3?

Got a puncture on back wheel and new tyre required which is a pain as plenty of tread left. Do you think I can get away with using the spare and putting a budget but same spec tyre on as the spare? half the price of the continental.
Fronts will need changing soon (14000) I imagine all 4 tyres need to be identical on a 4WD?

I've had a mileage quote from vwfs now. Currently on 5K p.a. and have done nearly 17K in 14 months! At this rate I'll be at 30k and that's £1,440 due in excess mileage at the end.

Anyhow, I've 10 months to go and they've quoted me an increase of £65.70 per month over 10 months, so £657 instead of £1,440, saving £783. I make it 3.285p per mile for the extra 20K, which seems pretty cheap compared to other prices I've seen.

My front tyres are now about ready for change - I have 19" wheels so maybe that's why mine lasted longer than some on here? Those that have chewed through a set of fronts in 6K miles must have seriously deficient tyres or drive it like they stole it. ;-)

In other news, I really, really do not like this car. I would not be interested in it unless they offered it to me at about £10K. It's heavy, cumbersome (unless you drop it into sports mode and that eats fuel and tyres), has electronic quirks all over the place, the satnav is an abomination, I find it impossible to get comfortable in the driver seat, there's not much space in the boot considering it's a large estate and it's just meh for a £35K-ish car. I would swap it for my old S-Max again in a heartbeat even though that ate tyres too ;-)

Is it in the 'A zone' on the windscreen? Is it bigger than a 5p coin? If 'no' to both, get a repair kit yourself for a few quid and DIY. I had the same problem with a leased VW car, car inspector noted the slight damage but wasn't charged when it came to collection.

If you do claim via your insurance, then it will have a knock-on effect on your future premiums (because you've made a claim).

I am now the proud owner of a chip in the passenger side windscreen which I think should be repairable.
I was browsing the autoglass site and it made this comment about paying:

I'm hoping all of the negative news regarding diesels may have an impact on used prices in the future. I'm hoping it'll be no more than 20k after 2 years

My local dealer has a brand new Alltrack with 19" wheels and few other options for £28.5k so in my head they are going to be worth 50% of this in 3 years time (i.e. £15k) so I would guess our cars would be worth about £19k after 2 years, or is that too optimistic?

One of the VW Finance websites lets you put your plate number in and get an instant quote to purchase the car (but must be 3 months before return of car) obviously only to any third party, or friend, or family - not yourself.

My car is on long service (2 years or 20,000miles I think) so I will need to get mine done just before I return the car. I'm going to ask for an extension by 3 months but I don't intend to get a replacement lease from VW unless its a good deal. I wonder how much they'd be offering the car to buy outright if given the choice (due to tax reasons I think they can't sell to me but they may be able to sell to my wife)

What is everyone doing with regards to the 1st service? The car has told me it needs the 1st oil service and inspection which I guess is a good chance for it to have the light recall done too. With my previous leases I have delayed the service by 2 weeks or so meaning I'd only need 1 service done during the agreement.

I got the letter through for recall on the lights.

Reluctant to take it in yet as a few weeks after getting the car some to##er decided to key every panel down one side. We will obviously get it fixed but waiting until nearer the end of the lease.

The bonus was that it pushed us to finally put the house up for sale. It sold in 2 days for the asking price and we are now in a quieter place which I love 6 weeks later so money well spent.

Hope everyone is still enjoying their alltrack. My partner drives it more than me as I prefer my van :smile: hopefully we can get an extension for a few months which would be a bonus.

Extended PCH on my Golf R during Feb for 3 months (was due back start of March) - on an 'Informal Contract' basis. Rates and mileage stay as is and no admin fee payable. If you order replacement new car from the VAG group they'll extend (new car order number required) until its delivered BEYOND this 3 month informal contract. You can cancel and hand back in the 3 months at any time and they'll refund any monies paid. You can extend up to a year ('Formal Contract') but new finance (worse rates) and contract have to be signed and admin fees apply. Pretty fair approach I think. Call VWFS - straightforward process. Fiat 500 on the way!!

Is anyone considering blagging for an extension to the lease for as long as possible? I am enjoying my Alltrack and wouldn't mind an extension at the same monthly rate for as long as possible. I heard that if you have a confirmed replacement lease coming up via VW, VWFS sometimes would allow extension until the new car arrives. Anyone considering this?

Anyone else had a letter about booking car in to check for possibly faulty bulb failure system? Not clear if this is required (ie an official recall) or just an advisory notice in which case I'd probably leave it...

I know its a bit more expensive than at the pump, but as I don't have a pump close by, I bought a 10 litre drum of adblue from Halfords, for £13, which comes with a filler. Make sure the filler is tight and pour in. No spillage, and no fuss. Rinsed the drum out and use it for adding screenwash now.

After 4900 miles, was on the amber 900km ADblue alert, went on google, found this site to locate nearest pump.

Luckily there was a Shell up the road from my workplace with an ADBLUE pump in the HGV fillup section, 0.59p/litre and filled up 14 litres, no spills/flow rate issues as mentioned above and done in minutes! Thanks for the heads up!

Just got back from my nearest shell garage that sells ad blue at the pump.
Couldn't have been easier tbh. No issues with the flow rate which others had mentioned. Couple of minutes and I was out.

You can buy them from ebay with the correct hose. However I found a Shell garage locally with a massive tank hidden around the back designed for lorries as you said. I had no issues with it whatsoever, it was cheaper than ebay and I could fill up exactly how much I needed.

Just to warn you, the warning on the screen counts down much much faster than it suggests (i.e. 2000 miles is not actually 2000 miles it seems!)

What has been peoples experience of topping up Ad Blue?
From what I have read some people seem to say that the HGV pumps can be a bit of a pain due to the flowrate

Same here. 60p/litre at a motorway petrol station (hgv pump).

​Cheaper at some of the big fuel stations. I tanked my ad blue for £7.50 and used a proper pump, no messing around with funnels or adaptors.

I've done 15,000 miles. I still have around 5mm tread on my fronts. Those wearing it down fast must be driving a bit strangely, is all I can say.

I bought 20l of Adblue last week as I could see my range was down to 2000miles until refill. I paid a bit less than £20 delivered.

I was quite surprised how much the tank took. I used around 15l before it was full. The range is now showing 9000 miles (it showed 7500 when it was delivered).

I've just checked my tread depth with my newly purchased gauge. I have around 5.5 - 6mm remaining after 5.5k miles. I read that most tyres start out life with around 7.5 - 8mm so I reckon I'm doing ok. Might just get the full 2 years 16k miles out of them.

Had a look this evening and I think I'll go for 4x Avon ZZ5 tyres from ATS Euromaster. Seems to be a reasonable price.

Spending any less and you are taking a risk at the bottom end of the market. The Avon tyres get decent reviews. Hopefully they will last 12k miles if I rotate them half way through.

It's a bit disappointing that premium brand continental tyres haven't lasted more than 6k miles. I wouldn't say that either myself or my partner drive particularly aggressively. We never take it out of the normal mode, don't use the DSG paddles etc. I've never known tyres to wear out so quickly!

Has anybody been to the dealer to complain about the wear? I worked at land-rover and we offered contributions to prematurely worn tyres. They should make it to at least 12,000 miles.

VW contract hire website states -
All tyres must be replaced with the required specification (as originally fitted to your vehicle when you took delivery). Details of this can be found in your vehicle handbook.
I would assume specification is the key word here to mean size, speed rating etc. not the brand?

I'd buy a tyre tread depth gauge - for a few quid could mean you CAN put these in the garage and save £££'s by fitting a cheap set meanwhile

Does anyone know what VW expect at the end of the lease? Do they have to be like for like OEM tyres or can they be a premium brand as long as they are above the legal limit?

Don't worry about minor stuff. I already had an argument with a Tesco lorry (not my fault) and smashed the car up pretty good. Needed two new doors and one alloy plus a week's worth of C-Class as hire car so I hope I don't have anything like that till the end of my lease

Curbed a rear alloy this week

Exactly what I did and will save a few hundred pounds come the end of the contract. Already at 8250 miles, I love driving it, great car!

My payment will go up from £136 to £157 (£21.05 difference) + £60 admin fee for 14 months. Total cost is £354.70 rather than £576. Seems like a good deal especially as I can pay monthly rather than in a lump sum at the end.

It seems they're offering the mileage at 3.6p per mile in this "bulk purchase" option then. Odd that at the point of purchase, contracting for more miles far exceeded 7.2p per mile but once you're into the contract they'll happily give it to you at half price...? VWFS are an odd bunch.

Just got my quote for additional mileage to 10,000miles/year. Monthly payment going up by £20/mth+£60admin starting from Feb direct debit so I'll taking up this offer as it'll be cheaper than paying 7.2p/mile

Mine is showing it needs an inspection in 120 days and an oil change service in 18500 miles.

In case anyone is interested, I just called VW and inquired about the service/tyre plan. VW told me they only offer service/tyre plan on cars with annual servicing, and since my AllTrack is on long life (20k), VW does not offer a plan. Not sure if they were talking BS but that's what he said. He told me the first service at 20K or 2 years should cost £220inc vat (called Inspection Long Life Service). HTH!

I'm forecasting having to pay for at least an extra 8k miles at 7.2p so the terms mentioned earlier would save me nearly £300 and also I can spread it over the remaining payments rather than one large lump payment at the end.

My supplying dealer mentioned this may be a possibility but wasn't sure if VW would agree given the circumstances of the deal.
Worth a go though depending on tyres/servicing etc

Who are you guys contacting for a quote on additional miles? I've already gone way over my 5K annual mileage

I have just requested a quote for an additional 10k miles, I was told this would take 5 days! All they could advise me of was the £60 admin fee.

I spoke to VWFS and multiple dealers about servicing and tyres they had a 'TYRES and maintenance plan' for a very reasonable price but will not sell it to me - no real explaination why not but the best excuse was that you have to request it BEFORE taking out the contract and cannot add it after. Failing this 'tyres and servicing plan' the best suggestion for tyres on here was to buy a cheap set set before the originals wear below 2mm and use them (whilst storing the originals) then swap back before they collect the Passat - works out a few hundred quid less than buying new set of Conti's.

What does your OBC say about servicing? Mine was set to 2 years interval so would need to get a service done before the car goes back in. Another expense to consider is the expensive tyres. Mine are down to 4mm after only 5000miles. Very disappointed with the wear rate

Interesting, I had 2 cars when I took this lease out (another lease incidentally which I planned to replace) but now make do with just the one. I estimated 6k miles PA in the Passat but that's probably over 10k now quite comfortably. I'll call them and negotiate something similar.

I just paid it without questioning - I figured circa £300 instead of an £800 surcharge was pretty good and they don't strike me as the type of firm where staff have room to make their own decisions I.e. I felt there is the price the system gives them and that's it - I may be wrong though!

Prefer Normal mode as the car is a bit flat in Eco, although I occasionally put the DSG in Sport to get out of a junction or climb a hill.

I did! Now paying an extra £18 a month for an extra 5000 miles a year! Also a £60 admin fee but even with that it worked our significantly cheaper than paying the surcharge. I probably should have asked for a quote for an extra 10,000 miles but thought it was unlikely I'd need that much. The quotes are free to request admin fee is payable on making a change. Also worth knowing you cannot change the plan in the first 6 or LAST 6 months - so you don't want to be leaving it too late.

Has anyone tried ringing and buying some extra miles in bulk (cheaper then paying per mile)? This was suggested as a possibility a few hundred posts back.

I'm on Eco mode all the time as I foolishly spent £500 on metallic paint and although it does look nice, I should have stuck with the free grey colour and save some money.

I'm getting low 40s too. It's dropped a little in winter as expected.

Actually my car prior to this was a manual 2.0TDCI Mondeo. I also got around 40mpg but the Alltrack has an autobox as well as the Haldex 4wd system.

I don't think the mpg is dreadful by any means.

What mode do others use? Eco, Normal or Sport? I notice that the coasting function in Eco can make a big difference if fuel economy is your thing.

Just checking that everyone realises this car has a pre-heater for the cabin that warms up the cabin before the engine is warm? It's not enabled by default, you have to do so in the climate settings page. One of only two checkboxes I think.

Did anyone get a definitive answer on like for like tyres? My last VW lease I put the same make on but a cheaper variety and it was fine.

Same sort of mpg here 150 bhp manual. 38 mpg urban. I wanted to buy the car after the lease ended but don't think I will now, tyre wear and mpg will make this an expensive car to own.

I'm getting about 42mpg long term on the manual (non dsg) though around town it's more like 30's. I wonder how much this is down to the 4wd or if all Passats are pretty much the same when you drive it normally (like flooring it from time to time).

I'm not much better, averaging around the 43MPG for the manual 150 BHP, so the 190 DSG I would say is good by comparison at what your receiving.

I'm rather disappointed with the MPG on my DSG. I'm only getting 40.4mpg after 7k miles (80% motorway)...What MPG are you all getting?

These VWs aren't getting any better are they - I think anyone who had paid £30,000+ for one of these heaps would be pretty incensed.

Mines had its timing belt replaced! Good job I didn't ignore the chirping sound, wouldn't be a good thing to fail... Whilst I had to wait a good few weeks for the appointment once booked in, VW Manchester were excellent.

I was in same boat as you - they told me to top it up with tap water and booked it in for me. Mines been in for a checkup , been advised nothing is wrong , they topped it up - done 500 miles since and again its dropping! Currently between the max and minimim markI will wait a few weeks before i ring them again if it gets closer to the 'minimum' mark.

Just been out to top up the wash fluid and also noticed my coolant was well below minimum.

Was the general consensus that VW recommend an initial top up and monitoring from there or is it worth booking it in?

I think they please themselves to be honest. I had a maintained lease deal and when it came to replace my tyres the lease company would not pay for the swap like for like. I argued that that is what I was paying for in my maintenance agreement and they eventually relented.

I have two things to say about that (well three really as the idea to put cheap tyres on is a good one!)

1) I am furious that VW (dealers and VWFS) cannot sell me a Tyres, Maintenance and Service plan as advertised here, as this would solve the issue.

2) I cannot actually find anywhere in the T&C's that requires the tyres to be anything other than 'E Mark' certified tyres. Which I suspect are any tyres on sale from a reputable retailer, so where has this dealer got their info from?!

So I did ask the same question to the dealer and they said it has to be OEM or else the they will put new ones on after you return it and you'll get a huge bill. Cheapest around mine is £165 per corner and all the reviews say tyre wear is terrible on these. I'm going to get some cheapos £40/corner and put the OEM ones back on when I return the car

Mine also look rather worn for only 5k miles, I have therefore swapped front to back on each side - but not sure this will be enough as there is a minimum tread depth requirement when the car is returned (in excess of the min legal requirement). I'm wondering if any recognised brand will do or if it has to be the same tyre exactly as there are Pirelli's available for a fair bit less than the Conti's.

Yeah ro8in, mine does the same. Takes forever for it to clear in the cold mornings

The ac clears the condensation fine. It's just when it's stood it mists up.

Mine also fine in this respect - check your climate is on 'auto' and that you haven't turned off the A/C (especially in winter) it relies on the A/C to dehumidify the air.

Mine is fine. If the air is not drying out then it sounds like an a/c issue.

Does anybody else's car steam up on the inside alot? Mine does. I didn't expect it from a new car. It's like there is a water ingress problem but everything is dry on the inside.

I have the DSG version too. On a cold start journey of around 3 miles I will get around 30mpg in Normal mode.

If I put it into Eco I can get around 40 mpg (using the coasting function and by coming off the power earlier than usual when coming to a stop).

On a long journey if I'm driving carefully (again in Eco mode and using the coast function with less braking) I will get over 50mpg.

On the other hand if I boot it in Sports mode that will drop to around 40 or less.

I have driven quite a few diesels and this compares quite reasonably. My 2.0tdci diesel Mondeo got similar MPG as the Passat but that was a manual.

Remember the extra weight of the 4motion adds a bit to the fuel consumption too. On the whole I'm fairly satisfied with the fuel economy.

I particularly like the Eco / Normal / Sports options. It helps brighten up a boring journey in my opinion!

The Alltrack is really growing on me. I leased the car because it was a cheap family motor. Now I accept that it's a really decent car in its own right. I'll be disappointed to see it go back in 18 months time!

The DSG Variant

How is everyone doing with the fuel consumption in winter? Mine is averaging around 30mpg for town and A road combination driving, slightly more if you throw motorway in the mix, no where near as good as I thought it would be considering its my first diesel. By the way this is driving like Miss Daisy and odd cold warm ups.

I feel paranoid that since the car went into dealers for coolant check, they have altered something and my MPG has taken a hit, either that or the recent cold weather has something to do with it. Oh and I use the vehicle in 'normal mode' with air con off - heaters on here and there.

Did any of you bother activating driverline? I keep getting missed calls for me to activate but I'm not sure if it's something that's worthwhile?

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed this?

I sometimes run my Alltrack in Sport mode. If I switch off ignition, when I switch on again the mode selector on the infotainment still shows Sport but the dash display shows D - and the car seems to perform in D. If I select Sport again the dash (and mode) updates.

Interested to hear other experiences.

Well mine went in and they topped up the coolant to the required level, did some pressure testing and all was good, therefore sent on my way advising there is nothing wrong.. Been told to closely monitor the coolant and get it rebooked if it drops again! Heaters are not even close to giving me warmth like my previous car but it will suffice.

Thanks to Lukman2k for the tip above, I have just been out and checked my coolant and it is still on the halfway mark, especially if I see any heating issues.

After mine wouldn't start just over a week ago it spent two days at the dealers, but behaved itself impeccably while there and they couldn't find anything wrong with it. It has started every time since I got it back. Fingers crossed :neutral_face:

Mines going in today as the coolant dropped again despite the top up, only done 3.5k miles so far, heaters also not warming up like the previous poster above, been advised it's all linked, seems like a common pump failure problem - make sure you guys check your coolant levels.

Been advised i will get a polo or UP whilst the car is booked in and will cost me 12 pounds / day insurance as my policy wont cover me to drive other cars as vwfs is the registered owner/keeper , so I dont get that privilege. I might just pass on the replacement vehicle if they can only offer me an UP as i have a second vehicle.

Mine has been in to VW for inspection/repair. Had a number of warning lights and errors pop up on the dash and screen which basically shut off the ABS/auto-hold/park assist/cruise control and a load of other things. VW have now fixed it - it was a faulty ABS sensor in the rear offside wheel. Not great for a new car but thankful it's all under warranty and VW really were great in getting it all sorted so promptly. Wasn't so keen on the VW Polo courtesy car - looked like a bit fat man driving a toy car

My coolant also dropped to under the minimu, topped it up with G13 for a few pounds from eurocarparts. Will keep an eye on it otherwise I will get VW to take a look at it.

Need to put mine in, the heater js not working properly and now takes Ages to heat up and does not reach a high temp

VW support have been brilliant, I have a replacement car for now while it is at the dealer.

Mines started chirping when cold - sounds like aux belt or something, sounds fine when engine warms up... Bit unusual for a few month old car with less than 5k miles?!

I completely agree, however it was cheaper to test if it was loosing coolant first (for £2) to make sure instead of driving to a dealer and either letting them top it up or leaving it with them for a day to run tests.

​If your coolant level is low in a brand new car, I'd be taking it back to the dealer. A car shouldn't be loosing coolant.

I checked mine the weekend after it was delivered and noticed it was slightly under the minimum marker.
After a bit of research I decided to get some of this from Euro Car Parts
It seemed easier than mixing it myself and less effort than going to the dealer.
There is also a 30% discount code showing at the top of the site at the moment.
I have just been and had a look at mine and I vaguely remember topping it up to half way between min and max, which is where it is now so hasn't moved since.
I would say if yours was definitely okay and now isn't then a visit to a dealer may be required, but you could top it up and keep an eye on it first which is what I did.

Noticed my coolant level has dropped considerably, looked in handbook and says use the G13 coolant which needs to be mixed with distilled water, wondering what you guys recommend or have used or is it case of visiting the dealers for purchase? Bit clueless on this front so any advice appreciated.

Like karlie88 says - its fully automated, if a wheel slips it routes power to where its needed automatically. Obviously it can't create grip if there is none - something some 4x4 drivers don't seem to appreciate until they find themselves in a ditch wondering why 4wd didn't help... But I'm kind of looking forwards to some snow to make the most of it! Not that I ever got stuck in a 2wd car in snow - we just don't get much anymore.

It's essentially a FWD car but can send up to 100% of the power to the rear-axle when the fronts lose traction.

Is the Alltrack full time 4 wheel drive? Just wondering when the roads get icy / snowy - would you select offroad mode?

When you have to fill up with adblue I've discovered that all Moro service stations have adblue pumps on the hgv side and are happy for non hgvs to use them.
You may have to go in for them to switch the pimp on though

From memory it's 90p a litre no waste and no risk of messing things up

Only problem is I'll worry about it rusting which could turn a literally pin **** sized chip into something worse, i'd literally just touch the tiniest drop of paint using a toothpick or needle just to hide the metal that you see when you look at it close up. Not planning to sand/fill/screw up anything...

Think your more likely to balls up an at home touch up than just leave a few stone chips on a bonnet. Could end up a costly full bonnet respray if the assessor deems it required done, rather then a few chips that are within the acceptable fair wear n tear limits. I'd just leave them, unless you took out the scratch n dent insurance from the outset.

Anyone had any stone chips on the bonnet? I know your allowed fair wear and tear but a couple have gone through to the metal by the looks of it - though only pin head sized. I haven't seen a tube of touch up paint that some manufacturers include - has anyone else found one hidden away anywhere?

Guys, a dumb question - what tyre pressure (PSI) is right for this vehicle? I looked at the sticker on the door sill and cant make sense of it, front and back please. I generally drive alone if commuting to work or with the wife/kids for schcool runs / outings.

​I use Thule square bars. Had suitable bars, 120cm I think, so just needed the correct foot pack. can't remember how much I paid but eBay usually cheapest. You need foot pack 753 and fixing kit 4059.

That seems a bit odd. If it's in the middle of the tyre then is should be able to be repaired. Has the screw pierced the tyre at an angle?

Bearing in mind that tyre repairs are hassle for a tyre shop where as selling you a new full price tyre is easy and more profitable. Might be worth trying a different tyre shop.

Anyone had a puncture yet? I had a screw right in the middle of my front tyre and my local garage said it couldn't be repaired. I went looking at the Continental website and because they have Conti-Seal technology it seems as though you can remove the nail/screw and it seals itself. I've put the spare on for now but wanted to make sure I could use the one with the hole as a spare even though it hasn't lost any pressure.

Just give them a call it doesn't cost you and it's in there interest to maintain the highest resale value. If you didnt register I am sure they will honour

Have I missed the boat, I registered with Driverline when I got the car but looking at my welcome email looks like I needed to sign up with VW Ensurance for the accident management cover?

Anyone tried to arrange a service and tyre plan? On VW's website it estimates around £250 for a 'service, maintence and tyre' plan for cars less than 30 days old or before their first service. However 4 dealers I've tried are unable to quote properly for this. I realise I probably won't need it servicing before it goes back but even for the tyres, at £250ish for cover for tyres and service (in case) it'd be worth it, on the chance it needed a service too. I've even contacted VW UK to complain that after countless calls to 4 dealers no one is able to arrange or even discuss this service plan, they are still blaming it on various departments and I wonder whether this is just another pricing mistake (seems likely).

Use VW Driverline to do the repair they will repair it to there standards and sort it out with the 3rd party and your insurance at no extra cost

Am I the first one to have a crash in mine? A Maserati hit me up the back on a Motorway in Italy, bumper damaged £1500 rough estimate. Do I need to let VW know or is it ok as long as my insurance uses a VW approved repairer?

It hasn't bothered me all that much simply because, you drive it more in forward than reverse, but it is a concern, it has been the case from Day 1 and I have just ignored it till today, so judging by these reports here, its a common factory fault. Yes will be good to to hear from anyone who initiates a conversation with the dealer. I think it might be important to inform them so atleast its on record even if nothing is done in a worst case scenario.

Me too, and mines the manual version! Just hoping they won't do something ridiculously unfair like charge us for damaging the suspension when this has been happening since new on many of these cars.

Yes mine does the same when i reverse car onto my drive. Noticed it about 2 weeks ago and now i know it happens i hear it every time i do it!

Has anyone noticed a knocking sound, more like a single clunk after engaging in reverse, once the car starts moving? Wonder If i should get it seen, wont be charged would I if it has been happening since new? Apart from that on occasion, the car is fabulous.

Has anyone worked out how to stop using the fog lights for Daytime running lights and use the main lamps instead? I saw a brand new Alltrack today on the road (first time!! - plate ending PSO if its anyone from here!) and he had his main lamps on but no fogs.. wondered how he managed that?

It was an optional extra. So unless you paid extra all we have is the orange indicator light which is just an indicator light! The blind spot system would have added three indicator lights on the opposite end of the mirror casing. Would have been useful mind you.

One of my neighbours has a 2013 passat estate bluemotion , I was very surprised to learn he had electronic boot opening / closing .. You'd have thought with the top end Alltrack, those sort of luxeries would be thrown in , heavy boot door to shut too! Was this a paid for feature on the Alltrack?

There is a significant increase in the number of new Alltracks for sale on Autotrader with delivery mileage and/or pre-registered. Starting from around £27k, some with extras, but surprisingly none in Urano grey. I wonder if there was also a dealer offer running at the same time?

Interesting point - I also didn't notice it and mounted my camera partially blocking it - as the rain sensor is clearly where the mirror mount attaches to the windscreen and not on the mirror back. I haven't noticed either the wipers or lights behaving unusually, perhaps its to help it with the auto dimming feature by measuring ambient light vs light from behind the car?

I have mounted my camera behind the rear view mirror (passenger side) and didn't notice the sensor in the back of the mirror. I thought the auto wipers wouldn't work as the camera is in the way but they do.
I'm now wondering if that sensor is for something else?

Thanks for the offer, I took a gamble and stuck it on the rear wiper fuse and all is good. Could have sworn I tested the cig lighter a few weeks back but gave in when I couldn't find a ground.

Yes, all the 12v sockets work with the ignition.
I have my dashcam plugged into the one in the rear passenger compartment.

That's weird I'm 99% the cig in mine is only on with ignition. I used a blank slot (with an 'add a fuse') that I tested as switched with the ignition (used one of those 12v screwdriver testers with croc clip). I've got a photo if you want?

Same can't be said for the passenger mirror glass which fell out and was only held dangling by its heater wires - at midnight, in the rain, on an unlit section of the M6 (not the most pleasant hard shoulder stop)... I had noticed it was a bit shaky, but didn't think much of it. Seems the sticky back mirror glass isn't up to the job for some reason though driver side is fine. Will have to take it in to the dealer to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Finally got around to fitting mine today, I piggybacked the cig lighter fuse and got a ground using the hole you speak of, managed to get a solid connection by prising off the side panel where the passenger airbag on/off switch is, this gives access to the rear of the "hole" so I used a nut and bolt to secure the ground wire. Thanks for drawing my attention to it

I rang VWFS earlier this month as no payment had been taken yet - I rang the number on the paperwork they sent me. My car was delivered 19th May and no payment was taken until 16th June (initial rental) then the first payment will be 30th June. They told me it's because the direct debit takes 2 weeks to set up from registration date which although the vehicle has been mine since 19th May they had down as 31st May, I clarified this with them and they didn't seem to care.

Is everyone on a 1 year or 2 year service schedule? Apparently these cars should be on a long life service plan but mine is annual.

Agreement number is beneath the barcode on your pdf agreement that was emailed for you to print and return prior to delivery.

I just rang vwfs to query why my dd not setup on my banking , they dont have me on system despite giving my reg, postcode and agreement number, which number did you ring to resolve the dd issue, my dd is due on the 30th

ACC is rather impressive. I'm chuffed i got car play too!

Got to say that I'm loving this car. The build quality is superb and the multimedia/car system is excellent. My wife has a new C class Mercedes with all the toys and it feels a bit old school compared to the Passat. The 6 speed DSG box on the VW is also a lot smoother to me than the 7-speed auto in my wife's car. Power delivery is also better I feel in the VW too.

I got mine from NVS and there was a VW Breakdown booklet in the document holder so I assume it's covered.

I picked mine up at the end of last month, they took the first payment on the 14th of this month.

Also those who ordered via NVS, do you get breakdown cover? I have no paperwork to suggest i do.

It's a technical error on their part spoke to someone other day had same issue said it's effected 60 customers. All sorted with a call not gonna effect credit score.

Yes, Tesco initially said they don't insure as I wasn't the registered keeper etc, but they double checked their own policy details and as the lease is longer than 1 year they are insuring me. Took a while for them to finalise the cover but I'm fully covered so all I needed was a vehicle change admin fee of £20. The only downside with Tesco and many other insurers is that they don't offer new for old settlement for cars younger than 12mth, so they only give you market value, hence a gap insurance makes sense.

I have just had a letter through the door demanding payment, apparently I am in arrears? I had thought all this was set up through direct debit, but they have not taken any money.

I doubt they can charge you a cancellation fee unless they made the provision of such documentation a condition of the contract - chances are they didn't specify any such demands. Also well worth searching the ask Honest John section of the honestjohn.co.uk site for anything similar - I've seen a very through response of his in regards to an insurance company threatening to cancel a policy claiming they had proof the car had done 120mph in a 30 zone (caused by a fault with a Black Box transmitter).

I'd play them at their own game and state as this is not a requirement for insurance and you clearly stated you were not the owner that they either retract your stupid demands or you will have no alternative but to cancel under distance selling laws (and please tell me you paid the upfront payment by credit card) instructing your Card provider that the service you paid for in not being provided and that you wish to retract the payment.

I have insured my Alltrack through the Sure Thing! car insurance broker. They sell policies on behalf Zenith Marque. They have recently emailed me asking to provide a scan of driving licences, DVLA driving license history codes for both drivers, proof of address, proof of no claim bonus discount and copy of the V5C document.

It never happened to me before (I've been driving for 11 years in UK) that insurance company asked for so many documents, usually it is only proof of no claim bonus discount. Anyway because I have nothing to hide I emailed all the requested documents apart from V5C as I don't have it because we are not registered keepers of the VW Alltrack. I clearly stated on the policy that I'm not owner and not a registered keeper.

They have replied that I should contact VW Finance and ask them to send me a copy of V5C. On top of that they gave me only 6 days to provide it threatening that if I don't deliver on time they will cancel my policy charging £75 cancellation fee.

I have contacted VW today but no one can give me a straight answer how to get a V5C copy or even if this is actually possible.

I heard that this is common scam within car insurance brokers to request as much documents they can with a very short time limit and if you fail they going to cancel your policy deducting high cancellation fee. It looks like this kind of scam to me.

Therefore my question is: Do they have a legal right to request V5C from me in such a short time even if I clearly stated I'm not a registered keeper of owner of the car? (I've checked T&C and there is nothing there)

Does anyone know if VW finance have any obligation to provide a copy of V5C?

I'd double check that if I was you. I was onto Tesco car insurance on 3 separate occasions when I wanted to change to my Alltrack and under no circumstances would they allow me to insure a car where I was neither the registered keeper or the registered owner, I was told repeatedly under no circumstances as they would then have "no financial interest" on the vehicle. I ended up having to cancel my Tesco insurance policy and take out a new one with Aviva. Get it in writing from them, as heaven forbid you end up with a car stolen/crashed and a £32k bill for a car policy that is null and void because you are not the owner or the keeper.

Yes, finance paperwork seems to default to first payment being 1 month from date of registration. I guess if you have not yet signed the paperwork they may allow the date to change.

No problems adding it to Aviva multicar policy, just added it online. I did speak to an advisor before who said there would be no problems with registered keeper etc.

Yes i have the same issue as well and mine is supposed to be delivered the day before yours. I may take up the offer of a weeks free insurance from VW to buy some time.

Mine is coming Tuesday. Insured mine today with no problem. Although the insurance system didn't recognise the reg they were happy to enter that and the vehicle type manually.

Mine is due for delivery next Friday - as yet I can't arrange insurance as the car reg is not been recognised. Did anyone else have this issue? How quickly is the vehicle registered?

Perhaps consider getting someone at Halfords to do it for a small cost (£3)? It's a pain/annoyance but cheaper than taking time off work and taking cab back home etc.

That would be a result, rather they just gave me the light and I changed it myself rather than having to take the car in for the day.

I think I came across it in the handbook/manual when looking something up - from memory I was impressed in that it looked like they had designed it to be easy to replace bulbs - I think the light unit pops out forwards somehow meaning you don't have to reach behind or remove any bumper parts.

One of my DRL's on the passenger side isn't working. Only had the car about a month! Going to call VW today and hope they replace it under warranty. Guessing it's not a simple job knowing how difficult replacing bulbs in modern cars are!

You can buy add blue from certain petrol stations. I don't think vw will be giving you add blue. You can get it from EURO CAR PARTS too but it's twice as dear as fuel station. You just fill up via the blue filler cap. Don't spill it down the body work though, it takes some getting off plastic trim. Add blue is made from pig **** if anyone is interested.

I've just seen a YouTube video regarding dipping of the passenger mirror on reversing. It seems that the option can be toggled on / off under vehicle settings / mirrors and wipers / lower while reversing. I'm hoping it works on all models of Passat / Discover Nav systems.

When i go to service menu it says

I think it would depend on mileage. If the car doesn't complain you should be fine (I say that because the car determines when it should be serviced and it may decide your driving style war rents frequent servicing say at 16000 rather than 20000 miles).

I think it was around Stage 6 (if that is the stage when the vehicle arrives in the UK) when I received my paperwork. I filled out the forms, sent them off and was offered delivery about a week later. Mine was through NVS and dealership was Lookers Newcastle. NVS were extremely efficient and I didn't speak to the dealership once. Awesome deal, awesome car :grin:

What is it that you imagine the torque app can do? If you're using it just to read things and display them real-time then have fun. If you're using it to try and write stuff to the onboard memory, good luck with that. It's very limited what you can actually do other than clear a few error codes! The sat nav is typical of any built into a car. I wouldn't ever actively buy one but given that its unavoidable in many cars I will live with it.

Just before I set off from work for home last night I programmed google maps on my phone and the sat nav in the car and selected the "shortest route" (what it thinks is the fastest route takes me straight into a half mile queue at a roundabout that adds 15 minutes to the trip). The VW estimated arrival home at 17:01 (24 minutes - "fastest route" would have been 21 minutes allegedly...). Google estimated 17:12 (35 minutes). I pulled onto my driveway at 17:11.

That's a margin of error of 40% for the vw and I had a clean run home with it being half term, hardly any delays at all. If this had been, say, a 1 hour journey then with the same margin of error, the sat nav would have been telling me I'd have been there in 35 minutes. That's shocking.

As pointed out on the previous page, it also fails to re-route you when there's a traffic jam, even though it allegedly is meant to do so! Mine would have stuck me at the back of a 9-mile tailback on the motorway the other day if I hadn't seen the gantry signs and pulled off (and as I did so I checked the traffic list and the VW knew about the jam).

The sat nav is shockingly bad for such an expensive car.

I've used the nav on mine several times for varied journeys albeit not many in central London, but on a few tests with google maps running aswell, they've estimated pretty much the same time. Maybe a few mins out but nothing as drastic as you say. I have found that it will let you drive into a traffic jam/accident and not suggest an alternative route like google maps would. Ah well. Still ace for the money!! :wink:

Yes, same for me - although I didn't get an e-mail alert this time. NVS emailed the paperwork to me last Friday and I returned it with Driving Licence to the Dealer (Lookers, Newcastle) same day. Got Driving licence back yesterday so hopefully no signature issues like a few past posters! Just waiting now for that all important call or mail to arrange delivery - maybe within 2 weeks? (I hope!)

And? Once you understand how it works you can better estimate things. To be honest I haven't find it that inaccurate but I live up north rather than down south and go against the traffic

If you want accurate estimates you best get app connect and use google maps or waze.

Seriously guys... does anyone else have the problem with the sat nav that I have? Any journey of a decent distance (10 miles plus) involving A & B roads and my sat nav underestimates arrival time by about 30-50%. It will say I can do the trip in 15 minutes for example when I know it will take 25 to 30. Even with wifi connection to phone for updated travel info it does the same thing - it's always hugely (not slightly) underestimating journey time. It drives me insane but VW says it's designed that way! It expects you to do the actual speed limit of the road you are on. If you spend a bit of time a few mph slower due to traffic or whatever then watch your arrival time climb...

I think we're all just a bit paranoid we scuff one of those diamond cut alloys, that will prob cost around £500 to replace if damaged on hand back in 2 years.

I haven't got my Alltrack yet but I believe you need to leave the side mirror selector pointing towards the left mirror. The mirror should then dip when engaging reverse.

Yep mine was as well. I'm sending mine back 2 month's early to save on the servicing fee and new tyre's. Also they only charge 55% of the outstanding monthly payments to end early so happy days. I've emailed Zoey today asking about delivery. I paid extra and got silver.

True, thats worth doing - and switching on the 'Auto Lock' option in there somewhere which locks the doors automatically (from the outside) when your speed exceeds something like 5mph.

You can turn single point entry off in the settings menu. It was getting on my nerves pressing the button twice.

The number plate is fitted by the dealer, so would be dealer specific I think.

Unless you specified Keyless entry (i think was £400 extra) it's only keyless start - not entry. So you need to press the fob to open the car (twice for the other doors) and then you can keep the 'key' in your pocket.

Anyone else having problems getting the keyless access to work? Just doesn't seem to work for me.

Once the sun had come out, I have noticed my instrument panel isn't looking too good.
Some heavy handed dusting before delivery has left quite a few scratch marks.
I'm flagging it up with the dealer but given it isn't actually my car as such I'm guessing VWFS will decide if they want it fixed or not.
I don't want to get hammered for it in two years time though.





I'm a bit cheesed off about it as I like to keep my cars pristine.

I also fitted a dashcam and managed eventually to find a ground, if you look to the left of the fuse box (glove box can stay dropped no need to remove) and use a torch you can see some bare metal with a fairly large hole. It is hard to get to so I made do with wrapping the largest screw I had with tin foil and pushed that in (
With the tin foil making sure it's a snug fit and won't come out). For the live I found a spare fuse slot (switched live, like the cig fuse) but you could piggy back for yours as I just needed a better connection as I'm using a Cellink battery pack which draws nearly 7amp apparently so have used an 'add a fuse' that it comes with. Let me know how you get on.

Anybody figured out how to remove the glovebox? I can't be far off. I'm trying to piggyback the cig lighter fuse for my dashcam and need to pick up a ground. I've dropped the glove box out and I'm at the fuses, then removed 3 screws at the top and 2 at the bottom hoping to drop the entire glove compartment out so that I can get to something grounded. I'm at that point now where there must still be something holding it and I daren't give it too much incase I snap a clip or something. Struggling to find anything online to help

I have a boot liner which was £30 from online-depot-ohg on ebay, described as BOOT MAT VW PASSAT mk6/mk7 Alltrack Estate 2005-onwards ANTI SLIP. Fits perfect and will keep the mud from my golf clubs off the boot carpet. it has a 1 or 2 inch lip and an anti slip surface in the middle

Mine works every time without fail, albeit on a Golf R, but I would have thought the same parts were used in both.

I've had mine for a day now and very impressed. Used it to tow this morning and very steady. The titan bootliner worth buying if you have a dog or use the boot as it should be used. I love the grey colour...very surprised. It does seem to show the dirt though.

This is correct, have had this feature in a couple of VAG cars now.

Even with correct setting, it is "intermittent" and seems to decide that sometimes it just cant be bothered dipping the mirror......

have you tried turning the mirror control to L then placing in reverse? This should invoke the dip.

How strange you are right we get the folding option on the car menu but not the dip option. Must be a European thing? Maybe if we leave the EU we will get the option? :-)

Active cruise control is very good indeed
49.6 mpg on a 200 mile run - motoway plus minor roads.
Be a bit careful with the Stop/Start when trying to make a quick pull away at a roundabout for example. The engine restarts when you take foot off brake pedal so a bit of anticipation necessary though you can turn off the feature very simply using button next to gear lever.

The satnav isn't as good as my Tomtom but adequate.

Funnily enough, you can't turn OFF the radio without turning off the whole media/nav/phone etc. In fact you have to mute the radio but turning VOL down to zero. Strange but true :-)

Other than boy racers, you won't be disappointed. In fact it is reasonably nippy. I use in the standard Drive mode. As far as I can tell the Sport mode just alters the gear change points.

So bad luck you doubting Thomas's and prevaricators who missed this bargain. I think you can get a Citroen C1 for about the same price!!!

The vehicle has just been delivered by a lovely geordie chap on a flat bed truck with 18 miles on the clock , just under quarter tank , never had an estate or an automatic so will take time to get use to , stunning vehicle.

I still struggle to comprehend this is happening / happened. When i told the delivery bloke how much im paying over a cuppa and biccies , you should have seen his face :wink: He didnt seem entirely clued up on the ALLTRACK model so plenty of manual reading for me.

Has anyone else tried launch control? It really shows the power of the car. I'd recommend doing it on a dry day - switch off traction control, put it into sport mode, left foot on a brake, rev it to around 3k with left foot, let off the brake and go!

According to wikipedia the ALltrack bootspace is 11litres smaller than the regular B8 estate. I will dig around.

Mine arrived this morning (also showing 25 miles on the clock) shortly before 9AM, the driver left Newcastle at 3AM and drove through the night. It was loaded on a flat bed with an additional trailer. The other car sadly wasn't an Urano Grey Alltrack ;).

The car is stunning! It drives beautifully and is so well kitted out with the extra features, it's difficult to know where to start. The Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) feature is just incredible, if a little scary at first, but definitely incredible.

Regarding the colour - I do not regret my decision to go for the standard colour of Urano Grey!

I leave mine in sport all the time, have no idea of the mpg, never checked and not interested!! Drive it like you stole it!

Had mine good 3 weeks now maybe 4? And average 36mpg on average journey but on long motorway journeys easily does around 50mpg if you let the car drive and are happy with it.

You need the emergency key from the key fob to turn it.

My car had a build date of w/c 25 April and the car has been sat at the dealership for over two weeks now but the dealer still hasn't got my finance papers, so many excuses...

Quick final timeline : My papers were sent to me by email on DAY 1, i posted on DAY 2, they received on DAY 3, approved on DAY 4 with a delivery date of DAY 10 but i took DAY 12 instead.

Mines now insured through Admiral , they dont do NEW FOR OLD even in year 1 but market value as discussed earlier , went with them as the qoute was too good to refuse.

Vehicle was going to arrive tomorrow but i declined the offered date in favour for Friday as im off work .

Just need to polish up the old banger, list it on Auto trader , tidy up the front garden and make the drive presentable for the new beast .. Oooh im so excited! Love you OP! :smile:

Just been giving dates and after the first delivery date of May 31st the next available delivery date is June 7th. Think I may go for the 13th or even the 20th as I work away during the week...

I sent my papers in last Tuesday and was given a date on Thursday for delivery on the following Thursday, so a little over a week.

Very happy that mine will be with me before going away on holiday, did not think that would happen.

As I ordered from a local dealer, I called I to sign the paperwork and asked about this as mine said the 31st. I was told it was simply a case of they had to put something on there and it could change depending on delivery.

I thought the same. Registration date on paperwork was 31/05/16, however I am picking the car up on Thursday 26th, so not sure how that works. Quoted registration number is correct though.

Looking for some myself as I already have a thule system, looks like I just need to swap the footpack for the Thule footpack 753 (£60-80) according to Halfords you'd also need wing bars (£70-80) if you didn't have them already like me and the appropriate bike holders etc which I also already have. (50-60 each)

Anyone know if SCR diesels need to be driven at a sustained high speed to clear the exhaust filter or is that unique to DPF tech - or is a SCR a type of DPF which also needs the high temps to clear out? Just call VW and arrange your 5 day free insurance. Dealer may refuse to do it but call VW direct as per the post by Dave111 (0800 3167892). They will also allow named driver(s). This will give you plenty of time to source a competitive quite one the car has arrived and you have the number plate.

I've added mine over live chat so that I wasn't charged admin fee. You say what car it is and give the reg number, just say it's not registered yet. The insurance company won't mind. Make sure you also say it's a lease and the registered owner and keeper is the leasing company - it will show on the policy.

My vehicle is set for next fridays delivery , the 27th, been assigned a number plate and i know what it is , registration of vehicle is set for the 31st of MAY

Just drove it back home from work, very smooth and civilised ride. Nice and comfortable and the multimedia system is ace. Had a friendly Geordie chap deliver the car this morning on the back of a lorry with 19 miles on the clock. Lovely car, glad I went for the 190 DSG. mine is being delivered on Wednesday. sorted the insurance change with Aviva and was no extra charge compared to my old Audi (worth about £2K)

Just sorted out the insurance for ours as had to insure both cars until we have sold it.

Also got mine yesterday 190 dsg model. Was delivered by truck from Newcastle. Was unfortunately pretty dirty and they did apologise for this but gave me a good excuse to wash it yesterday.

Initial thoughts...

1) Seems slow in ECO driving mode but can pull well when using the manual paddle option or putting into sport driving mode

2) MIB2 system brilliant so responsive but not sure about the NAV yet gave it a quick test and didn't like it compared to others I have used may get used to this. Sound from stereo (standard) is very good. Love the sport dials that show g force and turbo/PS usage there a neat touch

3) Registered for CARNET - seems useless to me - may be a good thing for someone on the road 8 hrs a day but not for the miles I am going to cover

4) Start/Stop seems a little unsure of when to actually cut the car out but its the 1st time I have had a car with this so it could be me getting used to it

5) Doesn't seem as big as I expected which is a good thing.

Have just filled it up and it cost £67 and had 30 miles left in tank. This is based on fuel at 106.9p per litre.

One important thing to note. I am sure all prospective owners will scrutinise the cars upon delivery but make sure you double check everything.

Got mine yesterday

A quick overview of the car.

Delivered on time as requested (driven - arrived with 21miles on it), had a good look round for any damage etc, none found. Got the guy to explain how to put it in drive etc. he was a friendly old bloke, probably semi-retired.

I've now discovered a few things and probably will continue to, the manual is 400pages +

I'd hold back on app-net until you see if you think you'll need it, it links to my iPhone via Bluetooth and shows track names etc for the album I've selected and I can control next track etc from the steering controls, it also imports your contact list and you can dial out from the steering controls. You can also tether to your phone (Car-net) and look at weather/news reports and search for POI's via google for the sat nav, it even locates the nearest petrol station and shows the price at the pump. Tethering also enables google street view but I haven't quite figured that one out yet. To make this work you have to register for car-net online and it was a bit fiddly, best done whilst sat in the car.

As for driving you have 5 drive modes, economy, normal, sport and 2 off-road options, economy is actually ok and I've only tried sport briefly but it certainly makes a difference.

To go in to drive you move the stick to it's bottom position (D) this will appear in the dash along with the gear you're in (1,2,3,4,5,6) another push down on the stick will put it in S (sport) and another back to D. You can also push the stick over to the left and go up and down the gears by pushing up and down. Or you can use the flappy padels at any time.

I'm impressed with the adaptive cruise control, you select your speed (i.e 32mph) and the car will keep distance with the car in front without exceeding 32mph, it will actually slow to a halt without you doing anything and then pick back up with the traffic, you can even set the distance between you and the car in front via the steering wheel. This function is really good on the road home for me as it's very stop start with lots of bus stops. I still keep my foot hovering over the brake pedal to be safe.

I've also ordered a boot liner for £30 on a popular auction site, i'll let you know what I think of it

Not necessarily, contrary to earlier discussions in this thread, in the booklet received from VFS, it clearly states if you or a family member wants to obtain a purchase price for the vehicle at the end of the lease, it gives you a number to call. So all is lucky ones WILL have the option to purchase the cars st the end of the 2 year lease period.

Just be careful of that. I checked out if mine did new for old in year one. It says they do, but in the policy schedule it says 'if you are the first and only owner and registered keeper' and I don't think you are.

The guy who's delivering the car called me after work saying he will deliver tomorrow around 9am.

What is the excess? make sure its not like £1000 as I read on a VW forum that main aim of it was just so the car could be taxed if it was being sold rather than leased and for them to then follow up and try and sell you a full policy?

It's 2p a month, and I think that the initial payment went up by some pennies as well. I don't mind the extra ~£0.60... one less Irn Bru over 2 years will be better for my health too I guess.

There is more to a contract than offer and acceptance (consideration is also required)... 1 general question is what a court would accept as consideration in this day and age (no one knows and no one wants to find out).

As I said 2 months ago other factors such as the consumer credit act also probably paid a part in VWs decision. I can imagine their lawyers just took one look at the situation and couldn't provide an answer...

There is no desperation involved in VW's side. An offer was put out and was accepted. At that point they had to honour. The deal was pulled a few hours later. But with no small thanks to this site and keen dealerships there were plenty of takers at that point.

Mine has been at stage 7 for over 10 days and the dealer has kept saying the finance paper hasn't arrived for the same amount of time, which I fail to understand why. Only being patient as this deal was very cheap but not impressed with my local dealership

The only flaw I can think of is that it's grey rather than Harvard blue as I was unable to change the spec.

I think the main complain people have is to do with the GPS using maximum speeds for journey times - something that can be fixed with a software upgrade later on.

I would speak to your insurer - as I can't see where a contract hire agreement is mentioned in the above... Here the vehicle cannot be replaced (as we know when some of us asked to add options) so its a question of the amount paid out not them sourcing a replacement vehicle.

My current insurance does not have "new for old". And directgap does cover all my remaining payments, so the 2k in year 2 would also be covered.

Yes but there is a big difference between them finding an identical model (which is what is offered there) and what VW would be expecting (an amount of money to be paid to them). Regardless of what the paperwork says ask them as our scenario is not covered in that photo...

How do you envisage getting a bill for 8-10K? Almost all insurance policies do new for old in year 1. This means you have no liability. In year 2, the chances of an insurance company managing to tell vwfs that they're paying out Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay under the market value of the car is practically zero, meaning you'll have very little liability. What does that leave? Just the last 12 months (as a max) of payments on the contract. That's around £2K for most. If you can get GAP cover for that and possibly for any amount you paid up front, then that's arguably worth covering. Unfounded horror stories of being £10K short are nonsense though.

I've looked through most popular ones and it was between HonestJohn (~£120/2years/20k cover) and DirectGap (£109/2years/unlimited cover). All in all, all of them will be a pain to deal with, so doesn't really matter that much, as long as the amount covered is enough to make the financial company happy.

Went with DirectGap for £109, unlimited protection. Added the car to my existing policy for £100 for the 3 months remaining, so not too bad - will probably get it back when I sell my current car and remove from policy.

Mine's getting delivered on Friday. VW Crewe does not offer 7 day insurance. I've asked them to provide the number plate, so that I can insure it before the delivery.

This is why I went for it, the admiral group provide market value rather than old for new in the first year. For £63 over 2 years (£2.60 per month) I went for the GAP insurance so it wasn't worth worrying about.

Re gap insurance, I heard:
- not all insurers offer full new car price as settlement within 1 year of car being registered
- settlement offer during year 2 onwards can be below what VWFS is willing to accept

At least that's how some people explained to me re gap insurance. I'm gonna get some more quotes this week but may go with Ala via Quidco

Not sure why so many people are convinced of the necessity of gap insurance, yes it's cheap enough; but the lease company VWFS should be happy with the market value insurance payout in full and final settlement of the lease agreement. GAP insurance won't help purchase a new car in any case it would only pay off the existing agreement which should be terminated in any case without further payments required.

Guess the thinking is better safe than sorry for circa £100 - but if anyone has evidence of actual GAP insurance REQUIREMENT please let me know!

Those of you saying it takes you to the right place flawlessly are missing the point. Yes, it gets you there, but one of the major requirements for a sat nav is to estimate the time of arrival relatively sensibly. The VW discover unit we have as standard uses the speed limit it thinks apply to the roads you are using and it calculates the arrival time based on you AVERAGING that speed. Just think about that for a minute. There are so many utter pillocks in this country that think the NSL for A-roads is 50mph for a start that it's impossible to do 60mph as a maximum, let alone an average. If you then mix in the fact that many duel carriageway sections are restricted to 50mph by local signage and the VW sat nav thinks they are 70mph. Guess what this does to arrival times when you are using mainly A roads? Yeah, it completely underestimates them. My 16 mile journey to work never in a month of sundays would take 19 minutes as the sat nav thinks. It takes 35 minutes on average and 30 minutes at best. That is a phenomenally bad error margin. If you mainly use motorways (and it's quiet) then it gets closer because it's easier to average closer to 70mph there.

I know there will be some that say, "so what?" but it's important to me (and a few others I know) as if you're travelling for a reason that involves a reasonable estimate of arrival time and you don't know the route, it's a ball-ache to have to analyse the route, see if it involves A roads and adjust arrival time accordingly. I've enabled hotspot on my phone so it can get traffic updates from my phone. It even screws those up, often failing to take into account horrendous jams. It knew about a 9 mile queue on the M1 yesterday that was on my planned route and it was STILL intending sending me that way, whereas I knew I could get off a junction before the queue and go the back way. The traffic on the motorway was stationary as I passed over it on a country road and it would have taken me probably half an hour longer had I gone that way due to the delay. I repeat, the sat nav was displaying the red line and the delay was in the list of jams. It was not a recent incident (to get to 9 miles of queue!).

My 8 year old Ford sat nav had a simple setting for speeds to use on different roads. It was way more accurate than the VW unit for estimating arrival time and slightly overestimated it which is a far safer method. I can appreciate how clever the VW is in knowing the speed limit for the roads, but for some moron to programme it to use the MAXIMUM speed limit as an average for calculating arrival time is a work of utter incompetence and any of my programmers that did that kind of thing would get a bit of re-education in common sense. It would be a very simple task for them to alter the coding in there to just use 80% of the detected road speed limit for the calculation but will they do it? Will they buggery. Don't put up with this crap, complain to VW and they might just pull their fingers out and do something.

Is app net just a dealer enabling feature? If so my VCDS software can enable

I went with ALA, cost me £120 for 2 years cover of £15k. Went through Qiidco and also received 10% discount, so ends up £108. Hope this helps.

Definitely a better supplier than VW Crewe who only provide a driven delivery. Mine came a few days ago with nearly 250 miles on the clock before I'd even sat in it. Having said that the dealers were fine, just the driven delivery that bothers me when you read others were on a trailer.

Not got mine yet but I'm sure I read somewhere that it does. On a previous car I had with dipping mirror on reverse you just had to make sure the mirror adjuster was in the central position (not L or R for adjusting). It then dipped automatically whenever car was put in reverse. And it was only the nearside mirror. Useful for avoiding too many alloy scuffs on kerbs!

Anyone who has theirs.. Do we have auto dipping mirrors on reverse? If so.. How do I make it work?

I quite like the look of the Travall Mat Pack as the standard mats included are just carpet.

I think it's a sat nav you need to use with caution rather than blindly trusting it. Well worth studying the routes it's suggesting before you accept 1 of the 3 choices. I did a relatively simple 200 mile round trip and it was fine, as I said before the integration on the dash is fantastic.

Helps to have the nav displaying on the main screen in 3D mode as well especially when the arrows on the dash don't update quickly on a roundabout for example.

Not tried the post code suggestion yet though.

Thats it all complete. Finance approved and car being delivered next Thursday 19th. Dealer is Lookers/Benfield newcastle but have not had any personal contact with them all been via NVS. Will report back this time next week with my review of car and how the delivery went.

Fair enough, I'm coming from a crappy fiat with headlights that go 2 feet in front of me, so I guess anything is an improvement. I guess if you want HID performance, you should have optioned the HID's.

In regards to the Nav, It took me to five different destinations yesterday flawlessly.

They're not anywhere near as good as the xenon lights on my 7 year old Ford S-Max! And I'm still arguing with VW over the sat nav, which is pants and I think is unfit for purpose as it's so inaccurate.

Headlights are also very good personally. Don't know if it's the height of the vehicle that helps, but they are bright enough and have a very far reach on the dual carryway.

Mine got delivered today down to Swindon from Lookers/Benfield Newcastle. It was delivered on a lorry, had 18 miles on the clock, and has 1/4 tank of fuel. looks amazing

I got a repeat of the stage 6 email this morning (first received on 28/4) the dealership have now told me the car arrived last night and they are looking to deliver it next week

A point of note also, is that when park assist failed, the car was actually very easy to park!

I optioned park assist. I did not request it (the fuel), and to be honest I wasn't expecting it, but it was there.

Couple of questions. Did you pay extra for the park assist i thought it was an option?

And did you ask for the tank of diesel as you were collecting? Mine is in stock and am weighing up delivery/collection depending on date given.

Sorry for the delay. It was a very long day yesterday. As soon as I got home I had to do some gumtree deliveries which took all night!

So took the train to Newcastle and arrived pretty close to the arranged time. Staff were all very nice and within 10 mins had the car pulled out up front.
Was given the opportunity to look around it, I found no noticeable damage whatsoever.
Just had to sign the delivery form and it was mine to take.
Car had a full tank of fuel. The pre delivery cleaning has been done to an acceptable standard. It was a very sunny day and there were only slight swirls on some panels. I got lucky I guess.
The car is beautiful, astonishingly. Very very happy with the colour. I'm glad I didn't spec a more expensive one. Nice and big on the inside but feels and drives like a smaller one which is great. DSG will take some getting used to. Car is not hugely responsive on throttle but if you give It more it seems to understand. Start stop is very sensitive, it does indeed stop before the car has stopped moving and I had it kill the engine at roundabouts while still crawling a significant amount of times. Good ride quality. Very very comfortable. Noticeable tire noise. Apart from that, quiet.
Service is 2 years 20k.
Averaging 37-40 mpg so far. Driven 280 miles in it so far.
Park assist is fun, but it seems to drive the car into the kerb more often than not, so I just end up parking myself anyway.

I would imagine all lease cars are on the variable 20k service option... The only reason VW would put you on the 10k plan is if its a retail purchase and you ask...

for those who have already received their car....can anyone tell me what/how your service interval is displayed? Has it got a count down to "next service in xxxx miles"? If so, does it say 10000 miles or 20000 miles etc? I'll be doing 25k over the 2 years and I'm wondering whether I have to have:

VW offers a service plan at £15.99x18mth (£278.82) inc to cover first two services, so in my case, taking out a service plan is cheaper. Thoughts on this?

My dealer (Beadles in Dartford) sent me the free 5 day insurance without me even requesting it. It's just for the person named on the policy, so no named drivers. My Mrs hasn't driven the car yet but I think she is a bit daunted by it.

I also got a free tank of fuel but I negotiated it to start with as they were slightly more expensive than the lease company.

I believe you can get 7 days insurance if you call VW insurance and tell them you are receiving a new car. However the dealer doesn't offer it directly to you. Re; the fuel - I'll let you know. I doubt it.

Regarding timings; I watched my car come in to port via marinetraffic on the 4th May. On the 5th I received my finance documents through and posted them via next day delivery. They received them on the Saturday but it wasn't actioned until the Monday. On the Monday, (9th) I was informed that my finance was rejected as the signature on drivers license didn't match the contract I had posted (and had witnessed). That evening I sent my passport away. The next day (Tuesday) I was informed they had accepted my passport and funding was accepted. The earliest they could offer for collection was Thursday (today). This is Newcastle.

As mentioned earlier mine's moved to stage 6 this morning, and I have just received the paperwork through email. Won't manage to post it today unfortunately, so it'll arrive at VW Crewe on Monday.

Nothing. I was told once the forms were signed and they have a copy of your ID previously then you are ready to go on collection day.

1: processing order - as it sounds.
2: with the factory - parts are being ordered and are awaiting supply dates
3: BW confirmed - all parts are at factory and they've confirmed a date for build.
4: Build in progress - as it sounds, although very often skipped on the tracker as actual build is only a couple of days. States is takes 4 weeks from start of build to delivery.
5a: in transit:left the factory - on it's way to Emden.
5b: in transit:shipping - at Emden waiting a boat. Normally received 48 hours after 5a.
5c: in transit:nearly here - on boat to either Grimsby, Tyne or Sheerness depending on dealer location. Now states 10 days to dealer.
6. Arrived in the UK - as stated, takes up to 10 days apparently, although they try and do it within 7.
7. At dealer - just needs PDI and valet and is ready for you.

Mine was stage:
3 - 18/04
4 - skipped
5a - 21/04
5b - 11/05

That's as far as mine got, waiting for it to reach the UK.
The idea is to get a feel for the time gap between stages.

It's certainly not intuitive or user friendly. The whole sat nav is lacking compared to google maps/waze/Tom Tom.

Finally had the car relased. Collecting Thursday.

Just had a conversation with tech support at vw and I'm not happy. They say that the speed settings CANNOT be changed on the sat nav. Useless piece of crap that is then!

You can use a post code. Just pick it from the drop down options when entering the city. Took about 10 seconds to find on first use, you obviously aren't inquisitive enough ;-) The worst thing about the sat nav is that you can't seem to change the speed profile. It makes it unusable for me as it underestimates journey time by a ridiculous amount.

Yeah £250 seems a bit too much to me. I would like to have CarPlay and would pay the £125 option price if it wasn't too late to add.

I do have my concerns about how much I would actually use CarPlay though. The fact that the phone needs to be plugged into the USB port may mean it isn't used for all those shorter journeys. If and when CarPlay becomes wireless / Bluetooth then I may reconsider. I think the basic Bluetooth connection will suit me for now.

My car is still in Grimsby docks apparently. The dealer can't generate my finance paperwork until he can see the car is stock in his system so I guess that's when the cars been registered/cleared etc. Although the dealership is only 2 miles away I'm opting to getting it delivered to home as I'm not in any rush:)

The registration date has no bearing on when you can get it delivered, it's just a date put on the docs as it has to show something. My document showed May 15th and I thought, like yourself it couldn't get delivered before that date, but was advised the above by the dealership when I questioned them regarding it and getting its getting delivered this Thursday (12th).

I only received the paperwork after the car was at the dealership.

Yes! I love this too. Did a 80 mile trip today on some A roads/motorways so used this a lot. I had the car in eco mode and it took a while to get back up to speed after there was a car in front.

Why is the sat nav so bad? It's better since I changed the settings and now zoom out to see the router it suggests (based on colour) but why can't I use a post code?! The integration is great though on the main screen.

Took my family to center parcs today and we managed to fit so much stuff in the car, it was incredible.

To answer some questions: Yes the headrest is both horizontally and vertically adjustable. It does not have appnet (says to contact the dealer to get it activated) but does have carnet. Looks like it just uses your phones data to populate data within the satnav etc.

Excellent photos, thank you for sharing them. I've driven an Audi with DSG gearbox and agree with your points that they are a bit slow to respond, but once going they are great. The start/stop thing I always turn off. Don't see how it can be more efficient stopping and starting all the time and its just bloody annoying after a while. What are your thoughts on the 190bhp?

Are the headrests horizontally adjustable?

Looks amazing.The trick when pulling away is to let off the brakes momentarily before you want to set off and this will engage the clutch, then when you pull away it will be smoother.

Very impressed with the car, the infotainment and integration of the sat nav is fantastic. Not sure if the sat nav compares to a tom tom or google maps via my phone though. The DSG box is very smooth, not sure why you would ever need the paddles or sequential shift via the stick though. I found the box is a bit slow when pulling away from junctions in normal mode and the stop/start is very aggressive switching the engine off whenever you stop. This is my first auto box and I've had start/stop on other cars but with a manual instead.

Looks like the Newcastle dealership (Lookers?) are providing a far better delivery option that others if it's on a flatbed trailer. My dealer in Crewe is a driven delivery that will out nearly 300 miles on it before I've even seen it.

You have to transfer the private plate back off the car prior to giving it back to the lease company otherwise you lose it.

Love it very nice ride and everything I expected. Nippy enough at overtaking and paddles work well too. No choice of delivery I assumed it be either driven down or come on a big lorry but no personal flatbed van and man who was a1. Called me 1hour away and then 5 mins unloaded and even offered to talk me through anything I wanted.

It seems that you needed to order it as a factory fit option (£125) if you wanted Apple CarPlay or Android Auto to work.

I have asked the dealer for a quote to dealer fit as I believe it is just an activation code that needs to be typed into the navigation unit. I was quoted £215 plus Vat. Seems a bit steep.

I have read somewhere that some cars are coming with it already activated although that may relate to confusion between the Car-Net function (POIs, weather etc) and the more useful App-Connect.

Like if this is plugged into a laptop does the laptop just power this device which it then connects to wirelessly, or does it connect to it through the usb port (if that makes sense). If I can get one that creates a hotspot then i know it will work as it already connects to my phone, plus it can be used as a hotspot for say a wireless ipad too.

Yea my issue was that delivery was only mainland UK, but then they refused to deliver to a port where I was willing to meet them, and then they refused to let me collect the car on a Saturday. Seemed a bit rediculous that I was prepared to travel 500 miles by land, sea and air, plus pay the guts of £500 for hotels, taxis, planes and boats, yet a salesperson couldn't take 5 minutes out of their day on a Sat to hand me a set of keys!

Be careful as the £15k cover £87.23 option is for hire purchase and this is a personal contract hire which only gives £10k on 2 years for £63.48 still very cheap but they may not pay out if the quote is wrong for the purchase method. I think personally £10k would be ok for 2 years cover which would be the £3k approximately for the payments giving a shortfall on the insurance of £7k should the total loss occur straight after taking ownership. It may not be enough near the end of year 2 though for example if the car is then only worth £20k and VWFS want the £31k plus the payments made making the £34k total. All a guessing game with GAP really but based on what were paying for the monthlies i would 'over egg' on this to be on the safe side and will probably still go with ALA via HonestJohn or similar as its a well known GAP cover specialist and can select different cover levels.

Sim card is for the car-net which I've been running off my phone and it's quite good. I don't have a lot of data and it's a hassle linking phone to car every time. Plus if you put a sim in the car i believe you can use your car as a hot-spot too which is handy for the likes of ipads, etc.

Seem good value and when the 12GB runs out I'll just swap out the sim card for another one. I also think it means your car can download stuff when you're not near it, like you can set your route from your computer and it's ready for you when you get into your car, etc.

Question I've got tho is if the car is written off within the first year, and my insurance company pays out "new car value" to VWFS (as most insurers do anyway), am I still liable to keep paying the monthly lease fee to VW or does my PCH agreement end there and then (leaving me without a car)?

What is everyone doing about GAP insurance? I got a quote of £87.23 from motorpocket for £15k of cover. I asked ALA who I have used before to price match it but they won't, let alone beat it, as it's under their cost price.

That's interesting about the sim card. What will that allow you to do and which sim card are you going for? I did read somewhere you can connect it to your phone via wifi which is fine for me as I have unlimited data but not fine for my mrs.

Headlights are just standard halogen bulbs. Actually pretty poor, the 10 year old citroen C5 in the background has better headlights. Adequate, but the LEDs are something I would definitely pay extra for if I had the chance again.

The sat nav / media system is a highlight. Getting my car a SIM card tomorrow!

Then there is the obvious customs and time to get to the dealership etc. I estimate around 16th may for delivery/collection based on other reports on timings.

What issues did you face? Mine is there and ready was hoping for delivery but awaiting a call from them as not spoke in person yet. They sent back my id so all paperwork done quickly. Sent id Thursday and received it back today so no backlog.

Picked mine up this morning and already done 300 miles in it. Dealers (lookers Newcastle) were a shambles and as obstructive as could be. At several stages when I complained I was told "I'm sure somebody else will take it if you want to cancel"!! Whoever prepared the car made a mess of it and it's covered in swirls and even a couple of scratches.

im happy enough with the car for the money. Was worried about the colour but I actually quite like it. Car feels slightly too sensible coming from an m135i, but a whole lot more practical. Steering wheel is too thin for my liking but it's well spec'd as standard and everything seems to work well. Adequate enough power (190) but I'm not really a fan of diesels and it couldn't really be described as fast. Plenty for overtaking, but don't try racing!

Thanks, so cars go straight to auction and they still charge us for damage/repairs that they won't carry out;( As part of the gap insurance I can take out a "dents/scratches" insurance for £220 thru ala and you can claim up to 3 panels per year, but damage limited to under 25mm only. Tempted to take this out in case the inspector sting you with huge charhes

I've had mine for over a month now. (190 DSG). It's generally not bad. Few gripes I have are with the sat nav (I simply cannot find a way of changing the speed profile, so it ALWAYS estimates arrival time based on the speed limit of the road you're on. Try averaging 60mph on a single track road in rush hour mate!), the noise at 70+ mph (engine sounds much higher revs than the reported 2000-ish), the "pause then gear drop" under acceleration (all automatics do this though) and that's about it. Fuel economy is ok, nothing special.

The paddles people are on about are novelty value at best. Trust me, you will not spend much time in manual mode flipping the gears. The most useful function is using the left paddle to drop to a lower gear just before accelerating as that way it stops the "pause and drop" effect.

Mine has updated this morning to Stage 5 of 7 - In Transit. Hopefully it won't take too long to arrive in the UK. How long has it taken for everyone's orders to go from stage 5 to collection?

According to the VW finance website they will go straight to auction (BCA). It also states :

"Buying your vehicle
We are unable to sell the vehicle to the agreement holder. If you know of a third party interested in buying the vehicle, they can get a quote by clicking here."

I was also told by the dealership that VW finance will advise when and where the auction will be so it would be also be possible to buy your car that way....although BCA auction fees are quite high for private buyers.

According to Parkers a 2 year old Alltrack is valued somewhere between 16.5k and 20.5k currently. It's obviously the old model but it gives some indication of what we may be able to buy our cars for in 2 years time.

Called my insurance and there is a reduction of about £20 until the end of the policy in October. That's swapping my Mondeo runabout with a difference in value of about £33k haha.

I have been watching the tracker and 2 before me went to step 5 two days ago, 1 before me step 5 yesterday and mine this morning with a text/email saying at step 5a of 7 (5a being left the factory) Apparently there is 5a 5b and 5c (5b shipping and 5c near the UK)

I estimate around 2 weeks from this stage even though it says up to 4 looking at how it has gone for other's so I am hoping for delivery by Monday the 16th May. Fingers crossed :-)

Conversation around insurance not related to this deal is pretty pointless. Best take it to another thread.

Have you thought about letting your dad pay for it and just setting up a monthly bank transfer from you to him just before his payment to the lease company.
There would be no confusion with insurers etc if everything was in his name.

Two things:
First check the actual lease agreement. I doubt if it is a problem. I had company leased cars for years where I was the main driver but company held the lease.
Second - provided you are totally honest on your insurance proposal and state that your father is the main drive (and that this is a true statement!) then I wouldn't foresee a problem. However check with your insurer to be quite sure. For a £30k+ car, don't make an expensive mistake!

Don't see why it would bother the insurers - they wouldn't know anyway as all they ask is who is the registered keeper and owner - which in the case of VW Finance is 'VW Finance' and not the lease holder.

I asked VW Finance this question and they confirmed as long as all drivers are comprehensively insured they don't mind how its done. However there is a possibility other lease companies would have different policies but I don't see why they should as long as all drivers are comprehensively insured.
That said the only reason why you wouldn't get your dad to lease the car in his name would be for credit score reasons which if not applicable why not get him to 'lease it'?

His current car is on its last legs (£0 resale value) so I was looking into leasing one but under my name as I want to pay for it.

I strongly advise AGAINST this. You may well find yourself uninsured. If the lease is in your name then so should the insurance. Parents insuring cars in their name for their kids to drive is probably classed as fraud.

Yes, you can do this and it will make it cheaper. But only if he is actually the main driver, otherwise this is called insurance fronting and is fraud. Which will be illegal.

I'm looking into leasing at the moment for myself, and the cheapest insurance I have been quoted is around 1800 for a Pulsar deal on another thread (got license under 2 years)

If i took this or any other lease deal under my name, would my dad still be able to insure the car and add me as a second driver? This would work out a lot cheaper for me!

My car that was meant to be built this week has now already left the factory!!

I spoke to More Than a few weeks ago, although their computer system can't do lease cars online, they can work around the problem over the phone.
I asked again last weekend when I removed my personalised registration from my current car. I was told I could make the change online and select myself as the owner/keeper then give them a call to change. This avoids the admin fee.

In short, yes.

In all this panic, I called Direct Line just to check. They have no issue with VWFS being both owner and keeper, and quoted £400 for a 21 year old. Not bad!

Good news, I suggest it is probably just an issue with Tesco car insurance, but good to see you've got it sorted out with AXA. I'll just cancel and switch to another insurer when mine arrives, no big deal to be honest.

I have just contacted AXA about my insurance and used the number plate from a previous post on here to get a quote. They do not have a problem with VWFS being both the owner and keeper, all done online too so I avoid any admin fees.

I would strongly suggest that anyone who is awaiting delivery of their Alltrack, checks carefully that their insurance company is aware that Volkswagon Financial Services [VFS] will 100% be both the owner and keeper of the vehicle, irrespective of the fact that we as the HUKD population will be driving the vehivle for the term of the 2 year lease. I have again checked with both the VW main dealer and VFS, now my second call to each who have again clarified that this is indeed the case.
Failing to disclose this would undoubtedly nullify your insurance in the event of a claim, which on a £32,000 car would have the potential to virtually bankrupt lots of us if they were forced to find £32,000 without insurance. Tesco were absolutely fine with transferring over my policy to the lease car, however when it became apparent that VFS would be the registered keeper, it was a total no-go. Only trying to help fellow HUKD community in avoiding a major financial banana skin.

When applying for insurance for your new lease car there are two key details to remember:
• The registered owner of the vehicle will be the finance company who your lease is set up through.
• The registered keeper will be yourself or your business name.

Whoever told you that was either telling porkies or was clueless - I suspect the latter.

I'm with Tesco Car Insurance too and I just called VWFS (03700102022) just to be sure.

VWFS confirmed to me now that they are the OWNER and I will be the KEEPER, so he said he can't see any reason why any insurance company will refuse insurance.

That's just a generic information page about car leasing. Each car finance company will have different policies. But I can assure you that VWFS will be the registered keeper and owner during the 2 year lease for the Passat Alltrack - regardless of what that website says or the duration of the personal lease.

You won't get a V5C and road tax reminders. Potential speeding fines/car park fines will go to VWFS who will either forward the penalty on to you or they will pay it on your behalf and ask for the money plus a admin fee.

I know I won't be the owner of the vehicle, but I should be the keeper, as I will be the person using the car for the duration of the lease. I think hiring has a different process for that, because it's usually short term.

You will not be the owner and will never see the V5C document which is held by VWFS. It's like hiring a car from enterprise or hertz, they don't transfer the car in to your name while you hire it and the same is true for this lease but over the period of 2 years.

This is why you don't need to pay for tax, it's factored in to the agreement as how would you tax the car if you aren't the registered keeper?

I've run the quote on a comparison site stating me as a keeper and leasing company as the owner, and the quotes came back same price as previously. My insurance (Aviva) was also listed, so I hope switching the cars will not be an issue.

Not with the admiral group of insurers, my lease car at the moment is insured via them. Looks like you'll have to find another insurer.

Just ran into a small stumbling block when I called my current insurers (Tesco) to get a figure for switching to my Alltrack when it arrives. I was told because the registered owner and keeper with be Volkswagon Financial Services, they wouldn't be able to switch my insurance as they would then have "no financial interest" in the vehicle. I checked again with both VW main dealers and VFS and they confirm they will definitely be both the registered owners and keepers of the vehicle. Anyone else ran into such red tape?

With regard to the paddles, I don't think the Aus market gets them as standard, I seen an Alltrack vs Outback review on YouTube and one of the comments was that the paddles were optional. Also note that at one stage the website said that LED headlights were standard, so I don't really know whether to trust anything I read anymore!

Does anyone know what specific tyres come with the car? I know it's 245/45/18 Conti's but are they conti-deal self-seal tyres, or normal Conitsport 3 or 5? Curious as I'll be doing 25-30k before I had it back and it looks like I will have to pay for a service and a set of new boots (reviews on Conti's mostly day you'd be lucky to get 20k for the fronts even if your rotated). Anyone?

I don't think the tracker is particularly accurate so I wouldn't worry about it. They could put a pink interior in mine and I'd still think it's great value..

I believe there is some black leather in the standard alltrack seats.

Even though leather is an upgrade, surely they wouldn't just be able to upgrade without consultation? (Not that I would complain). What if someone really wanted fabric?

St.Tropez is the light beige/cream rooflining as far as i can tell. There is a black option which i would have liked but not cost effective.

​I found a PDF booklet online for Audi lease vehicles a few weeks back. It contained information on what it considered to be normal wear and tear (stone chips, scuffs, interior trim etc.). The minimum tyre tread for handing back is 2mm. I've been assuming VW might be the same? Build week of 2nd May - can't wait.

Process of elimination really. I have no way of actually knowing for sure but it's based on the following:

- Passat's are made and shipped from Emden in Germany (google.co.uk/maps?q=emden+port&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjb2syI05rMAhULez4KHRGQCqkQ_AUIBygB)
- I received an update Saturday to say my car is in transit
- There are a fleet of ships that sail between Emden and Grimsby, the WESER HIGHWAY is a ship that VW uses
- According to the departures, the Highway left on Saturday (http://www.marinetraffic.com/en/ais/index/port_moves/all/port:175/portname:EMDEN/move_type:1//page:12)

What was your week build date as a matter of curiosity, mine was yesterday (18/04) but still to progress as being built.

DirectGap quoted me for £109. However my insurer, SAGA, while not offering GAP, will replace the car like for like within the first 24 months within a certain mileage.

£249 seems rather high. ALA comes in at around £100

I used gapinsurance123 for my current car.
I have just been on for a quote on £10,000 worth of cover and it came out at £94.
Not sure if that is for deferred start date though (some insurers replace new for old in the first year).
On the face of it, you can do better than £249

I've had a quote of £249 for GAP insurance off the dealer I ordered from for the 2 year term of the lease. Anyone know if this is good, bad or indifferent?

So mine skipped a step and went from the build date being confirmed to it being built. The email said it will take 4 weeks but I'm sure I have read it will be less than that. Exciting!

I use a Mini 0803 Dashcam that sits nicely behind the rear view mirror.
In my current car (Soda Yeti) the 12v socket is always on so gives me the choice of leaving it plugged in when parked.

Anyone who already has the car, do any of the rear 12v sockets stay powered with the engine off? Need to know with regards to a dash cam as would like one with a parking mode for a bit of peace of mind (thinking of a Thinkware F750 unless the F770 comes out in time!), but want to avoid hard wiring and the associated risk of damaging some plastics.

EDIT: Just occurred to me (duh!) that dash cam would have to be hardwired for parking mode to work or it won't 'know' the engine has been switched off so permanent 12v socket is not much use, though it could be switched manually to parking mode.

Only asked the question about tyres because I will be doing 25-30k over the term plus reviews of the Continental tyres point to them only lasting 15-20k max. With the legal limit being 1.6mm, I'm wondering for example what would happen if I returned the car with 1.7mm tread? Yes, it's legal but would VW insist on me getting fresh tyres (£145/tyre)?

Right at the end of the page, the blue button 'Choose a service and Maintenance Plan That's Right For You' gives a quote of £9.50 - £11 per month on 10k miles for a passat.
It does say contact a dealer for a more accurate quote based on the actual car, but could be worth talking to your dealer to see what they say.

My build date was the 11th April. I had the same email from NVS saying I would not hear anything further, but I have just received the email direct from VW tracking site that it has been built and is on its way to the dealer..... Not long now!!

I received an email from NVS saying something about the tracker will not update from the point of confirming build date or along those lines, but not to worry it is now confirmed at this stage and nothing will change. I will try and find the wording.

that will be allowed as the tyres will all be the same make/spec and as long as they are road legal.

just signed my final fianace forms and sent them off. car is in the uk on the way to my dealer at crewe. they reckon i should have it before the end of april after being told mid may which is all gravy. has anyone got theirs yet?

I think breakdown cover depends on the supplying dealer as I got two quotes for this deal, one from Swansway which included breakdown but only for year 1, and an identical price quote from Lightcliffe which includes breakdown for the duration of the contract. Ultimately that's why I went with Lightcliffe!

We have a VW T5 van and ours came with VW assist for 3 years along with the warranty so pressumed the cars would be the same.

Does anyone know if personal lease from VWFS gives breakdown cover throughout lease term? On the VW site it says only 1st year on Passat so wondered how it works on the lease.

When you get your car dropped off make sure you do a thorough inspection. Make sure any marks are put on the paperwork and confirm this to the leasing co. / broker.

I was half tempted to go down to pick the car up myself when it's ready but stone chips from a motorway drive are as likely to happen when I'm driving, so I'm not going to bother. I think it tends to be older guys (semi-retired) that do these sorts of vehicle drop-offs, so I can't see it getting thrashed - and even if it does, then it's a lease car.

Mine was free home delivery as well (plus collection) but the free part was their guy driving the car too me.

Other than the 2 blue colours Urano grey would have been 3rd on my list. Not seen it in the flesh but grey always looks great.

My build week is this week so checking when it actually starts to get built.

Interesting to see build weeks ranging from now until 9th May as well. Would love to know how many people signed up to this deal in total

As for the delivery/collection - from my point of view its 110 miles from dealer to home and if I don't get offered trailer/transported delivery I will collect from them. I would rather it be me putting that mileage on the car than someone else.

As far as I can see with the servicing etc its £149 on VW site for 1st service after 1 year but if set to long life may not reach this requirement at all as its 18000 to 20000 by the looks and I will probably only do around 16000 max over the term.

​I haven't gone to any dealers to see if I can find one, however have been keeping an eye out on the roads. I've seen a couple, not urano grey as mine will be. had a wee cheeky look inside. I was thinking of trying to get it delivered to Stranraer, but her indoors has other ideas, hence the overnight stay near Newcastle.

I'm from Northern Ireland and picking up from Newcastle too. Have you found anywhere in NI that has an Alltrack to look at?

Also I previously leased and they offered free delivery anywhere mainland, so I just got them to meet me at Stranraer car park - good excuse for a trip away though!

It was quite a few years ago that the requirement to service with a VW dealer to maintain warranty was abolished. This is true for all makes. I seem to recall that it was deemed in breech of the competition laws to require you to service with a VW (or other brand) dealer. Of course it was imperative that any service was carried out in accordance with the manufacturer's specification.
However it is possible that when leasing, the lessor can impose his own requirements. I have not yet received the formal leasing agreement from Crewe VW but I will read very carefully.
My nearest VW dealer is about 45 mins away while a Skoda dealer is only 25 mins away. The Skoda dealer offers a "major" service for £195 with a "minor" service for £125. The Ford main dealer has a similar pricing structure.
My previous Audi was on an extended service interval and I seem to recall the only difference was the use of Audi's own branded long life oil. I imagine VW is similar.

Each leasing company will differ on the necessity to service via a main dealer. I have a Honda CR-V leased direct from Honda Contract Hire, but it's actually Lex Autolease that underwrite the finance and they said I don't need to service at a main dealer - only that I have to use genuine parts. I found a small independent mechanic who actually used to work for the dealer where I got the car from who did its first service for half the price I was quoted from the dealer!

You're talking about block exemption, which is correct. The law indicates that in order to maintain your warranty, the vehicle can be serviced anywhere as long as manufacturer approved parts are used HOWEVER as this vehicle is a lease car owned by the leasing company block exemption does not apply. In their terms and conditions of the lease contract they stipulate that the vehicle MUST be serviced by a VW main dealer as the residual value has been based upon Main Dealer Service history.
