you can get these at CEX for this price, so to get a brand new one for the same is good.
i've got one and it's certainly one of those things that once you've got one, you'll never really need another e-reader

Recommend getting the official Kindle case for these, they really make the product, fits like a glove, really well designed, not cheap though. I'm not one for 'official cases' normally (iPad mini etc) but the official case for the Kindle Paperwhite is well worth the money.

2nd that, even the higly recommended third party cases are no match, I tried them first. Official ones are leather so buy used of ebay and will be nicely worn in

Can anyone confirm the year and spec? If it's the 6th gen, then it's the going price

the 6th gen hasn't been cheaper than £99 ever on Amazon. According to Camels data. In all other supermarkets & currys/PC world, they have been between £89-£109 on average

Post a new 6th gen for £40 and you'll have lots of heat and happy members. Cantvsee any at that price myself.

Don't know about the Paperwhite case they do but Forefront make an excellent (cheap) case for the standard Kindle.
Think you need to open your mind a bit, camel, amazon & supermarkets aren't the only retailers out there...
Which search on the bay shows up loads starting at £24+, buy it nows from £29 + delivery.

By the way, had my sources check:
A few left in Hull & London (can't remember the name, but it ended in Green)
Few others scattered down south, but they are all display/return units

having been on the lookout for a paperwhite for the last few weeks I can guarantee you can not buy the 6th anywhere for £29 unless it's been battered to hell. £40 is the low end of the 2nd hand prices and awesome for a new boxes one. Gutted none near me as I plumped for a standard refurbished Kindle yesterday from Amazon (not delivered yet). Please please please prove me wrong!

It was 79£ on Amazon briefly, I picked it up then (from Tesco actually so I can use the points). And yes it was 6th gen.

You are looking at a different device, this is a paperwhite, 6th gen, I can find any under 50£ on eBay and the 50£ are usually damaged in some way. This is a crazy good price.

Ok so none @ Braehead, Hamilton or East Kilbride but they did verify the £40 price tag.

I've got a Nook Glowlight too but now that the Nook Shop is closing to the UK I'm ditching it for a Kindle. I often read in bed and if I finish one book, up to now I've been able to browse the Nook Shop, buy a new book, download it and be reading it within a couple of minutes without getting out of bed. Now that Nook are closing UK operations the only way to get a new book is to buy it at Sainsburys Entertainment On Demand, download it to computer, connect the Nook via USB and transfer the book to Nook. Ok during the day but if I've to get out of bed to do it at night and go downstairs to the computer, it's going to pig me off really quickly!

You are allowing yourself to be stuck into an infrastructure and price by not installing and using calibre.
Entirely up to you, but personally I think it is a waste splashing out cash on a device because you have not had the forethought to store a plethora of titles on it and do not want to get out of bed to find one, then locking yourself into Amazon's infrastructure and pricing.
I have never considered 'upgrading' my 6 year old Sony PRS-650 (about the only thing I miss with it is no backlight), I am happy not having an eshop, and choosing whatever is the cheapest place to buy ebooks, whether that be through Amazon's Kindle bookstore and effortlessly converting them from their ridiculously proprietary azw3 file format to ePub or simply buying ePub books from any number of other online stores.
Whether anyone own Kobo, Nook, Kindle, Sony Reader or any other there really is no need to be hung up on any infrastructure when you can be free from it, even if owning the most locked down of all in the Kindle and converting ePub to AZW3.

I can confirm that this is national - picked one up today in Barnet (N London) - 2 also available in Walthamstow. Product code is 125353694 - contact Sainsburys and ask them to check stock in your area!

That looks like an older generation, the latest (6th) has a black logo, and a high screen resolution. Still, the price is excellent, and it beats the Kindle Touch.
