I think you're seeing things which aren't there. Complaining about muslim's (of which I am one) halal does not mean complaining about brown people (of which I am one) otherwise DM etc would be full of complaints about Indian/Thai curry houses and whatnot.

Logic you say? Logic would be to not drag your religion around and demand others comply. I can fully understand if someone feels agitated about a 'halal' sign off a KFC. Its KFC's way to attract people from the corner-shop-halal-KFC-wanna-be shops. But personally I would not want to shout around discrimination if there is no "halal" shop around me. :-)

The Islamic slaughter method used by the guys KFC use (HFA you will see the certificate in halal kfc outlets) actually practice traditional British methods of slaughter meaning they stun the chicken before killing . So please read up before talking out of Uranus. ;-)
RealDash to Rehman06

The actual part of halal I disagree with most is that after the slaughter a muslim has `said a prayer over the meat` and `offered it to allah`. I am not muslim and I will not eat that out of principle.

Of course the bread is frozen. Most supermarkets tend to bake "fresh" bread when in reality it's just frozen part baked stuff. It's not feasible for fresh dough to be made, proved and baked.

I don't see how this makes subway or KFC more or less healthier than each other. Freezing something doesn't make it unhealthy. I don't see how a "processed" vegetable is worse than a frozen vegetable? A bag of salad is a bag of salad.

Of course, no one recommends you eat at either place every day. It is what it is.
hass123
8 Mar 16 #123
Did I forget to mention the bread is made from frozen dough? Not my claim that the food in subway is fresh, thats their claim, except apart from a few veggies the food is not fresh, and mostly processed which is worse than frozen (the meat processed to the point where it almost looks and feels fake). I'm just pointing out the hypocrisy from some of these people by stating that Subway food is more unhealthy than KFC.
hass123
8 Mar 16 #112
Lol people complaining about the meat in KFC, I've had friends who detest KFC meat on the same basis as the people complaining but they love Subway meat. I've worked in Subway (in December 15) and every meat item is processed meat pumped with antibiotics and GM. The only thing "fresh" is the tomatoes, red onions, cucumbers and peppers. The rest on the veg aisle comes processed in bags filled with preservatives, the lettuce comes in bags, and the gherkins, jalapeños, sweetcorn come in packets full of liquid preservatives and GM. The breakfast items such as the eggs benedict is not made instore but comes in packets which are frozen and then defrosted in a microwave.
yrreb88 to hass123
8 Mar 16 3 #122
Nothing is GM in subway as it would have to be labelled as such. All animals are given antibiotics, not just subway, would you want them to be sick? An animal cannot be killed after receiving antibiotics until after a certain length of time known as the withdrawal period.

What preservatives are these and why is this bad? Do you want rotten food or expect every subway around the country to receive fresh local ingredients daily? It's cheap, quick food sometimes in places where space is limited.

Halal/kosher isn't banned anywhere, just slaughter without stunning is banned which for me is the main issue. Kosher is worse in this respect as any form of stunning is forbidden, including post-cut whereas stunning in halal is somewhat more acceptable. It is estimated that 80% of halal meat produced in the UK is from stunned animals.

8 Mar 16 #119
No, but the focus on how live stock is killed on the grand scheme of food being wasted if not eaten is nothing but a thinly veiled prejudice. If one is really against Halal killing, then going vegetarian is the only way to go as ultimately, an animal will be killed. If it is killed and not eaten, then it is wasteful, thus my waste point.

Straw man argument; when you die, are your body parts eaten by another predator? No.

We are mostly in the top of food chain, much like a lion will kill a gazelle without first stunning them. What's more important here is, is the killed animal, be it cruel or humanely, eaten or wasted? If it's the latter, then it's more of an issue for omnivorous eater like me.

Arguing over how it's killed, like many veggie are saying here, is a moot point when they still have to live and die like any live stock, happy or sad when it is killed, it's perceived by us when we humanised them.
ollie87
8 Mar 16 #115
Firstly, it's "you're".
Secondly, why would you care? You're dead that's final, there's no afterlife.

Bleeding out from the neck is incredibly quick - you'd pass out from shock almost immediately and wouldn't be aware of anything. Besides Chickens aren't self-aware in the way Humans are. I'm not advocating any method of killing anything, all I'm saying is there is no good way of murdering an animal to eat it.

There was a period a while back where a deal would be posted for a company that uses Halal meat in some but not all outlets. Then a gang of multi-chinned nincompoops would compete to see who can get the most startlingly stupid, pompous or racist response past the moderators. I for one do not want to return to those days - I'm trying to increase the standard of comments, not decrease it.

8 Mar 16 2 #110
I am not a vegetarian I enjoy eating meat. But animals have to die for that to happen.

If anyone is that upset by Halal methods I would suggest giving up meat entirely because however you look at it free range, organic, halal, kosher and so on they all end with the animal being killed (sorry to break it to to you). Either ending a life of misery in bad conditions or ending a life of happiness in nice, open conditions.

If you choose to eat meat (as I do) you have to accept this.

Got the 9 piece bucket, wouldn't call it a bargain. Asked for white meat, they still sneaked a drum stick in. All grease and fat. One piece only had one enough for one bite on it.

When you ask for white meat, it's like you've committed a crime or something. They sell it all day and night. Trying to say see what we've got or if we've got enough. Don't dare ask for keal, it's like the whole room goes quiet.

They pump the smell down the high street to suck you in like a vacuum. In future I'm sticking to fillets only. I tried the popcorn the other night, no difference to super market popcorn what you buy frozen.

I never want a watered down coke, it's flat by the time you've eaten and I don't want ice in it, especially in the winter.
I've told 'em, I don't like their coke.

I still prefer McDonalds and they treat you better with more respect and they are cheaper.

We used to ask for white meat but it was a waste of time so we gave up asking years ago because we'd always end up with some drumsticks and thighs anyway. This latest £5.99 offer that we took advantage of on the last three Tuesdays wasn't too bad, except for the final one last week. We got two buckets and without one word of exaggeration, all we received in both of the buckets were TEN drumsticks and EIGHT thighs. Not one single piece from the rest of the range. There's three other pieces but it was like they deliberately offloaded the dreggs of their trays on to us. Will not be returning to that particular branch again.

I have 0 issue with Halal food, along with any other food source that's available.
What I detest is waste. Anyone wasting food, be it poor planning or Best Before End date watching and binning food is more accountable for any cruel death to a live stock that is meant for food.

If they die (stunned or 'cruelly') and end up as food, great. If wasted, that's even worst.
drummerdickens
8 Mar 16 #105
Not buying that at all. There's a reason it's getting banned across Europe. It truly is the cruelest way to kill an animal, I'm fairly certain that anything outside of Halal slaughter requires some sort of sedative / stunning. Halal does not and is therefore one of the methods of slaughter in which the animal is well aware of their slow, painful death.

It's not racist to think that it's a good thing to minimise the suffering of livestock and poultry. It's got absolutely nothing to do with religion for me. It's just a perversely cruel way of slaughter.

Mine starts/rolls over. I've once had enough stamps for two sides, two snacks and one £5 off so you dont have to use them straight away but, you do have to redeem them within 3 months of hitting the required amount.

So saves a bit as I said :stuck_out_tongue:, saves £1, better than a kick in the teeth. If it'll let me use it more than once, even better, £2 saved etc.

Rib pieces are from under the breast pieces so still breast meat but, with bones so it does require more effort but, overall more of the tasty skin, often more chicken than you'd get on a breast piece of chicken and often juicer than breast pieces of chicken, unless of course the store has had them sitting for ages :-|. - So rib and breast are white pieces, where as thigh, leg, drumstick are dark meat, from the underside. Heroxg says wings is white meat as well, which I didnt know, but my partner will not eat wings cos they are too fiddly which is why I forgot they existed  lol.
luvclub
8 Mar 16 #102
Thigh meat is definitely the best as it is nearly always the most succulent. Breast meat is normally cooked too dry and stringy. I do wonder whether if it is just that most people are used to eating chicken breast fillet since they were young because it was easier for parents to give to children to eat as it had less bones and as they grew to adulthood never thought to change!

8 Mar 16 1 #99
Hi I work at KFC as an assistant manager and as to reflect on the white meat (brest, rib, wing) outrage that people have I must say that the maximum amount of chicken is 72 pieces that we can cook (smaller store use samller machines). As from last year KfFC started to use so called dark meat only chicken bags which need to be cooked with normal mixed chicken bags. So (here comes the mathematical part) the best case is 8 piece of breast per 72 piece that is if all the chicken bags are mixed chicken. Worst case 50% of the 72 is dark meat only bags which means only 4!!!!!! pieces are breast pieces.

Hope that hepls to understand why its impossible to make a bucket all breast or white meat in some cases.

Also you can now add the points from a receipt (1 a day) so when you are passing a store pop in, and grab a receipt or two (just in case one has been used on a card) and enter the details on line. I don't have the balls to do this though.

He does have a point with the slaughter of animals, but I ask what would be the alternatives of someone with medical conditions which do not allow them to absorb nutrients, or process cell walls as found in vegetables, such as for example someone with aggressive Crohns or IBD who requires the protein carbs fat and salt levels to maintain their weight and prevent malnutrition (unable to eat vegetables, spices, in essence fibrous food)? Basically what is perceived as unhealthy would actually be healthy for someone with that condition who cannot process and absorb the majority of nutrients from food and therefore requiring an excess of calories.

Apparently they put so many pieces of each chicken in each cook and there's one branch (or rather one woman there) who refuses to serve me breast pieces of chicken even if they've got them, because "only way you can guarantee to get breast is if you order fillets" - so we now order rib pieces of chicken :stuck_out_tongue: - they tend to have them. I wouldnt order a bucket though as apparently they have to limit the amount of pieces each order can have of the popular pieces and needless to say, it does tend to be thigh and drumstick which are left over so if thats all theyve got then that'll be what you get. That and with regards to buckets, you may tell the server that but, someone else may package it up and not care what pieces they grab. - Where as when we get fully loaded meals because its only one piece per box meal, it says specifically on the order what piece of chicken we want. Only once have I had a young member of staff ask an older more experienced staff member which was there any rib pieces cos she couldnt tell.

I'm sure the 9 piece chicken deal for £5.99 finished on the first Tuesday of March :disappointed:

IT'S GLOBAL CHICKEN CONSPIRACY! WAKE UP SHEEPLE!

Dude, not everyone is out to get you, lay off the paranoia.
Gort1951

You know why that is? Because the staff save the best for when they go home for their families and friends and probably make a profit.

Voted hot for your filthy comment. How was that?
ollie87
7 Mar 16 #54
No but the outcome is the same. Why does the method matter to you?

It's not you pop up the other side of death and go "**** me, that was AWFUL! I'm never dying that way again!"
Gort1951
7 Mar 16 #53
I feel sorry for you having terrible KFCs in your area, where I live (Small Heath... Yes I know, its a sh*thole of a place) the KFCs around me are great and the managers take heed of the receipt survey responses.
2 in Great Yarmouth and that is also a sh*thole of a place. Right next door to McDonalds and Burger King on the other side. Last time I bought a Burger King the lettice was more limp than Quentin Crisp.
hass123
7 Mar 16 #52
BTW has anyone checked if these offers are glitched like the last two months offers were? The easiest way to check is if you used the offer when ordering but it doesn't disappear from your account on the app then you can use it again.
Gort1951
7 Mar 16 #51
It's a pity that Somerfield didn't still have a take-a-way. Their burgers and fries were just as good as McDonalds.

That was in Lowestoft.

HEAT!

For those *other* uniquegeek's here on hukd, the multiple use works the same as
the old mcdonalds code gen on andorid, as a point of reference just look up the
hukd mcdonalds code deal from way back ;-)

Not really, someone who wants to die (Euthanasia) wouldnt asked for thier throat to be slit and led to bleed to death now would they.

I think you've assumed wrongly - the app on the phone (at least on the IOS version) can display a barcode that they can scan.

Heat added. Plus a lot of salt and I mean a lot. KFC always leaves me thirsty for hours afterwards.

Comment #6 said "you present your KFC card", so I assumed, perhaps wrongly, that you need an actual physical card.

It's still being killed. If people were that bothered they'd go vegetarian - but they don't because it's an easy thing to complain about without appearing outwardly racist.

Really? I thought it was 1st March. I'm sure it finished last week. 10th March is on a Thursday, why would a Tuesday only deal finish on a Thursday?

if its good enough for taxpayers under the tories its good enough for some housing estate breeding animal program called farming
chaz_187
7 Mar 16 1 #33
been using the app for some time now whenever i do actually eat kfc, and every branch has been able to use it. all they have to do is scan it anyway

Only 1 problem is, i had 11 stamps which was for £5 off and didnt use it for some time and now its gone. Reading the rules is does say the stamps expire within 3 months or something. Didnt even know this but have emailed them and now will see what they say

halal animal killing is pretty grim though letting the animal bled to death with no pain relief!

finishes 10th march
hass123
7 Mar 16 1 #30
That's true, happened quite a few times where even though I keep the receipt in my wallet I forget to write down the 5 digit number. Not only that but also the stamp is added to your colonels club account as it's over the £3 stamp threshold (compared to only being able to put two stamps from two receipts every month)
iain_k
7 Mar 16 1 #29
yes it is better to use the receipt, but how many times do you get to KFC and think "whoops i didn't do the receipt survey, now ive got to pay full price :disappointed:" - i do that a lot, and with the app it is automatically applied without having to think about it.
iain_k
7 Mar 16 1 #27
Also don't forget if you are a student you can get a code from Student Beans which you then register on the KFC club card App and you can get 15% off your meals.
hass123 to iain_k
7 Mar 16 1 #28
15% over £5 order, and cannot be used in conjunction with colonels club offers or even the £5 off stamp reward. Imo better using the 20% off receipt instead
SherlockHolmes2015

I had a £5 off on the Colonel Club card and I used it on the £5.99 chicken on Tuesday's and it only cost me 99p.
