This is an LG TV, with JL simply sticking their name on it. It was posted 3 months ago at £749, so this looks to be a cracking bargain. Offer expires 23/04/2016.

That's interesting, because John Lewis have quite a track record in rebadging poor quality items, on the basis that John Lewis customers will always assume a John Lewis brand to mean quality.
John Lewis fridge-freezers, for example, achieved a remarkable 16th place (out of 16 brands) in a recent Which? reliability survey.

Does anyone know what LG model is this based on?

From one of the reviews:
" As there didn't appear to be a lot of information on this model when deciding to buy or not l did most most of my research on LG's 55UF770V model which is nearly identical to the JL 55JL9100."

this looks a good deal, anything similar but with 3D option? a lot of people don't like it but my kids love it for their films.

It does look like a decent deal but my last two LG TVs have really bad build quality. Anyone have this model?

You need to edit the title and add "LG" to it.

One more year and 75 inch tvs should hopefully drop below £1k as 65 inch now

The bigger the panel, the more obvious the shortfalls in PQ become - especially if it's upscaler is poor.
A cheapo 75" set is gonna look pretty horrible on all but the best picture source in all likelihood.

The AO Hisense 58" deal for £600 seems to have a better picture.

I am currently looking for my birthday present end of April and initially saw this TV a couple of weeks back and thought it is a good deal. I personally don't hink it is. Is it cheap? Yes. Is it good quality.... I am not too sure. Don't touch it when you like Video games!
I can see this being a good TV for a holiday home, kids room or something like this, but main TV... its a No from me. Still voted hot due to the price.
If you don't urgently need a new tv then i recommend waiting to buy a Freeview Play tv. It is like freeview hd except it supports on demand apps, you can scroll back in the EPG and watch things for up to 8days, it also has a h265 decoder for on demand content and possible future tv channels. Panasonic is the only manufacturer to sell tv's with it built in so far.

So exactly like the Youview app built into Sony TVs?

sky and virgin boxes do that too
why is that so important for u?

can't see them changing the standards anytime soon, and my youview box plays catch up direct from the guide, and plays all the freeview hd internet channels in the 200's.
with so much invested in youview by most of the broadcasters/big isp's I see it remaining the standard for a while.
never even heard of freeview play

Good deal but a bad TV, unfortunately.

Why do you say that? Seriously, as I'm on the verge of buying it. Cheers.

Because not everyone wants to pay daft amounts of money to Sky or Virgin when Freeview is free?

No, freeview play has h265 on demand functionality (uses half the bandwidth of h264), it is faster as the menus use html5+css+javascript instead of flash, it supports h265 broadcasts from dvb-t2 channels and iptv (whenever they decide to use these). Freeview play is better than youview. no subscription needed unlike sky and virgin.

Look at my post on page 1 with the review. Very high input lag. I suppose its down to what you need. It is value for money, but not a top class TV.

Would that be too much of an issue as it won't be used for gaming - just TV viewing? Cheers.
I can't speak directly for this TV, but my last two have been LG and my dads current TV is from John Lewis (and a LG). In my experience both my LG TV's have been the best I've ever had. I watch far too much TV and never had an issue. No issues with reliability, to date (2 year old 47 inch 3D TV), no issues with picture quality, or 3D. If John Lewis are rebadging that's bad... but I have no issues recommending a high spec LG.

how do you come to that conclusion? do you expect them to start their own tv development department? the last few years at least, all JL tv's have been rebadged LG's. They don't exactly hide that fact. The tv's look the same, the menus UI are pretty much identical. I don't see what's wrong with this practice at all.

In context it was a response to a message including this information "That's interesting, because John Lewis have quite a track record in rebadging poor quality items, on the basis that John Lewis customers will always assume a John Lewis brand to mean quality."
So, in context, I was saying it's bad if that's what they're doing. On the whole I have no issues with rebadging. I'm just against it if a company chooses to rebadge to change the perception of a product, if the quality is inferior. I'm not saying the quality is inferior and I can't confirm the accuracy of the previous comment made by someone else. I' just saying if it's true that JL are being deceptive with rebadging to give a false perception of the quality of an item than that 'is bad'. Hope my political answer suffices .

And the picture quality is not very good. Pay a little extra, get something better is my suggestion.
