I don't see anywhere that it has metal gears, just a metal chuck.

Just used mine to take screws out of 5 family caskets of peoples ashes - 2 dating back to 1942 that are to be scattered collectively next week. Jeez. Pick the bones out of that one. Seriously, it is true. Bet this is a first for a Fat max(and me too).

had this for a few years, haven't used it a lot but it's never let me down. Batteries seem to hold their power for a long time so I can take it out after a few months and stll do some small DIY jobs. Used it to hang some cycle racks on very hard garage wall - wore out a couple of bits and needed a few charges but the drill coped.
This is a Combi drill .... The quoted max impact rate of 25,500bpm is the hammer action rating.

Just checked my till receipt on my Fatmax - purchased 27/05/13 from Homebase being 1.5Ah batteries - priced at £84.99 and still working as new with no faults. :smiley:

Well, only 51Nm is a bit low compared to the 67Nm on Bosch.
Also seems less compact/heavier than Bosch

try ordering 2 online. last time I did this and only paid £79 for the pair. ebayed one for £85. free drill and change for a sandwich!
used mine for some heavy work during large kitchen fitting and other stuff. can't fault it. also have fatmax 18v impact driver and jigsaw, both are ace.

You lost about 20% of the £85 on fees Ebay/Paypal will take.
Just what I needed, well just what I wanted and couldn't help myself lol. Lots of diy and flat pack building ahead as moving house. This is a nice looking unit and looks great value for money too.

Best drill ever!!....had mine a while. Up the with the bigs boys. I love the metal chuck, led magnetic holder, feel and balance is spot on!!..2x 2ah is just the very icing on the cake....Bagain!!. No complaints at all 10 outta 10 and that's very rare for me :confused:

Nice. Enjoy. I believe Bosch introduced the cordless. :smiley: I had a 12v for years and it was so good. Once converted a large stable block to habitable use and used it to drive 100mm gold screws into the walls after a Bosch corded SDS pre drilled. The cordless went on and on and on until the ancient batteries refused to charge.
I bought the bosch from them a 2 days ago as my drill died during a job and they did next day delivery. All I can say so far the bosch is fantastic. Battery charge in 45min it is so light and compact. The drill bits that come with it are worth at least £20. There is also £5 off at toolstop voucher and £3 cashback from Topcashback. So all in all works out around £111.00

Thanks. I'm going for this one as I've got a fair amount of other tools already and although I like the Ryobi battery solution, the 1.3ah batteries you get with that deal aren't powerful enough to drive some of the bigger tools so the advantage of have the interoperability between devices is find of lost anyway.
Stanley every time. You will not find a better one anywhere in the UK at this price.

question. why does the chuck go lose every time I drill ?
I do tight it up until it makes a click noise . very frustrating and iv only used it once ! had if for 4 months now as I'm a light user

Most likely down to user technique. Try tightening on hammer setting - or max end of tourqe setting no. 22 - work down torque 21, 20, etc till you find a 'happy point' Use a rigger glove to hold chuck with. Doubt if there is anything wrong with drill. Otherwise you can build your body height to 6 feet and 18 stone weight with muscles and hands to match - that will resolve it :smiley: Hope this helps.

That can happen on small diameter drill bits, but usually it's just a matter of tightening it up more than you would. If it happens a lot you might have some debris or obstruction in the chuck jaws or it's a duff one.

As others have said it's the torque setting. It shouldn't be clicking. Turn up to drill setting and hold tight. Careful not to burn yourself by holding the trigger beyond your grip capability (or use a glove). My Father in Law gets it wrong everytime so I'm sure you're not alone.

Used it once in 4 months. Sounds like my conjugal rights. Make sure your chuck screw is tightened fully. It is in centre of chuck jaws and left hand thread to tighten.

try holding chuck and then pressing on switch while u hold it so it tightens a bit more.

Fantastic little drill. I'm a locksmith and although i have a much more expensive dewalt drill, I actually use this one more often, due to it's size and weight
Batteries hold a great charge and with the right drill bit there hasn't been a bs lock or 3 star euro it couldn't cope with.
An absolute steal at this money!

was first time using it too. I used the drill to make holes and drill screws for blinds. lots of numbers but as i am a woman and CBA reading instructions I thought bit would work straight out of the box.

No contest. Buy this one. No Brainer really. I believe the £70 1.3ah deal may be just a drill driver, with no hammer function for masonry work, but please check that out - irrespective of what the site info at Homebase is stating.
