With the release of the final IP Man film coming out next month I was looking to purchase the Blu-Ray. It is around £15 on Amazon, but, Zavvi have announced the release of the trilogy in a Blu-Ray Steelbook and this one is a really nice design in my opinion. IP Man 1 & 2 are around £9 each on Amazon, a total of £33 for the three films, so this would be quite a nice collection to own for £24.99 in my opinion.
Just thought I would point it out to people in case they didn't know of it's release.

Quite tempting.
First movie is one of the best martial arts movies in recent years. The sequel was good but not half as good as the first. Not watched Ip Man 3 yet but it features Mike Tyson
Love the Ip Man films, love SteelBooks, but Zavvi are utter clowns.. Will wait for it to inevitably come down to a tenner when they realise that 10,000 copies is not an "ultra limited print run"..

I found an Ip Man Blu-Ray box set for £21.99 on Amazon:
IP Man is based on a true story, obviously the latest film is not, simply add Mike Tyson to mix to sell more cinema tickets/media sales. Please, can we move on now.......lol

No, almost all of the story in all the films is fictional. The only bits that are true are that he had two sons and a wife, taught wing chun, lived in Foshan and Hong Kong, and Bruce Lee was one of his students.
Have you actually seen these films?

Sorry to keep this going - but from the Wikipedia link - "The film takes a number of liberties with Yip's life, often for dramatic effect".
I struggle to think of a major movie based on a true story or real person that's even close to 90% true. It is what it is and without that, the movies probably wouldn't be half as entertaining.

Mike Tyson isn't playing himself, he is playing an American property developer.

Let's just say it is based on IP Man, but it is by no means true events.

Amazon (UK) also selling the Steelbook edition for £24.99:
"IP Man Trilogy: Limited Edition Steelbook Boxset [Blu-Ray] [Region-Free]"
It was listed at £23.99 towards the end of March 2016.

I watched the 3rd one the other night... pretty good ! Great to see the same director for all 3 films... it works very well and they all fit together nicely.
Don't care that most of it is elaborated from the real story, this is a film not a documentary, and they are great films. To tell only the facts would make for a very boring movie so don't see why it matters.

So are reports of how good Bruce Lee was too.
Bruce Lee was an actor who also via his concentrated martial art training was exceptionally conditioned. However as he never competed in fights, no one really knows how good he really was, I believe there's a possibility there were better fighters before him and also after, he was the main person to bring martial arts to attention in such a big way via film.
He was a pioneer of mixed martial arts with his philosophy of Jeet Kune Do. Even MMA isn't real fighting, the only real fighting is street fighting, and if you can escape then do escape! If your only option is to fight then you need to hope you win, strike and escape if possible, there's no guarantee despite how good you are that it will end favourably for you. Bruce Lee was a master of adaption, however we can only speculate at how good he really was at fighting, he wouldn't be doing any high kicks or fancy punches that look good on camera in a real fight, he like any good fighter would be looking for dirty tricks to take down an opponent effectively.
I've been attacked in the street by some one I didn't know, I ended up with my nose broken.
Here's what I did wrong :
1. Walked in a risky area of London (Tottenham White Hard Lane) at night time, looking visibly out of place
2. I was unaware of my surroundings
3. I didn't take precaution to walk a safer route, I was new to the area.
Here's what I did right (eventually):
1. When the attacker asked me for money I assumed he was another street beggar that you see so often in London
2. I resisted the attack at first, but once I had a knee in my nose it was game over.
3. I threw my wallet to the floor so the attacker was distracted
4. I then had a chance to escape.
I thought about the attack in hindsight, but what I remember most is that I suffered minor injury and I'm still here, my other options that I considered might have left me dead, who knows.
The fact that I'm agoraphobic now could be down to that attack, it's impossible to say but it's likely.

Its called being street smart, walking in a dodgy area at night is breaking 2 golden rules right there, never put yourself into a position you will have trouble getting out of..I tell this to people all the time, its amazing the simple mistakes people make that put them at risk but could easily be averted if you just stopped and thought for one moment, 95% of muggings could probably have been averted if the victim had only followed a few simple rules!

Your statement dismissing his fighting experience; in competitions, or otherwise..
His street fighting was the reason he left Hong Kong, for instance.

I'm wise to this now, I'm 45 the attack happened when I was 19. Whenever I venture out I'm much more aware of my surroundings and perhaps more suspicious of people than I should be.

Don't be a mug, & the best defence is not being there in the first place.

It doesn't say if it is the steelbook edition though and release date is in July rather than April. What to do?
Seems like you also get £1 off Amazon Video voucher too.
Well it looks like Wiki missed out the bits about him defeating the Japanese, English and Mike Tyson.
In fact Wikipedia even goes on to lie, because it says he wasn't even in Foshan fighting the Japanese when the film clearly shows he was!

The truth is we can never really be sure Bruce Lee was a great fighter, we simply don't know, just educated guesswork.
Here's a video of Jim Kelly saying how amazing he thought Bruce Lee was, it's still anecdotal though, but I respect what he says >

You will be able to see for yourself then.
Awesome set.
Would have preferred a more high impact picture inside the steel book, but it's still cool.
