I have used this actual NUC, don't waste your time if you want video playback, this struggles with 1080p, just about maanges it with Windows 10 installed, you'll have to go in to the BIOS and set the video RAM amount to a larger amount if I remember correctly.
I'm serious if you want video playback this is a pile of crap! The CPU is so underpowered for the job. I've had two for sale for over a year in the shop I work and and no one wants them, you can hardly demo a youtube video in 1080p you get frame drops. I wouldn't buy one of these if it was £10 and I'm not joking!

I've just built one of these for my daughter. She previously had a mini-itx PC based on a dual core J1800 that I built myself. I was really surprised how much faster the J1900 feels over the J1800. The extra cores make a huge difference in Windows 10, even though they're slower than the cores in the J1800.

Same for me - until I got some h.265 1080p content that it just didn't have the power to decode smoothly (Kodi/Linux).
Now I use Emby on my home server to do any heavy lifting if required and Emby client on NowTV boxes around the house.

Seems like a great deal to me ,but I would keep in mind that something like above may struggle with certain video playback if you like your video frame rates may not handle a true bluray format at 1080p with a true 40 Mbps HD bitrate as most content stream via clients netflix, amazon prime ,tv content is at a 8 Mbps so not to be confused with what you actual receiving something to think about and streaming high def content could be a issue. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PbC5jNQbj2M

The iGPU should be capable of 1920x1080 playback with DXVA... Surprised it can't.

It's OK running OpenELEC it easily handles 1080p running that. But I agree it's not man enough to run windows.
PS this is a duplicate it was posted a couple of weeks ago for same price.

Did you install the 32 or the 64bit version of Windows on it? I've often been tempted by these mini pcs but it's ridiculous if they can't play youtube videos! And being hamstrung in Mint! Hah!

I use 3 of these for Plex Home Theatre and they handle full 1080p with DTS absolutely 100% fine; no stutters, no buffering, no lag.

I am with you.
The N2807 and N3050 is a bit weak.
Spend £13 to get twice the power which is sufficient for normal tasks. I think the £13 is well spent. And it is amazon, cannot fault its service.

Has one of these for over a year running Windows 10 and Kodi. Can play back MKV, live TV etc all at 1080p with no issues at all, as long as it can hardware accelerate it is great. I would not recommend it for web use though as it is poor for that.
Deffo slap and SSD and 4GB in it though and max the video ram.

I still have a Intel NUC DC3217IYE which I bought and built. I'm obsessed with size so seeing this I want to buy it. Cos I like the one I have even though I haven't found a use for it.
I upgraded it to Windows 10. Hmmm maybe I shouldn't buy another.

Well, I'd use the 32bit, imo, that will run better and explains the problem. Shields up!

I bought this kit a couple of weeks ago. Installed 4Gb RAM, regular HDD, Windows 10. Runs absolutely everything fine, 1080p videos and Youtube and feels quite snappy. Not sure why others struggle with its performance, for me it's just great as a HTPC.

It was our experience in the shop we have as well. Windows 10 gave the best experience, we never tried OpenElec. Happy to hear experiences different from my own though.
Just be careful with these if click and collecting, I reserved one and it turned out to be the last in store (which most of these discounted NUCS are likely to be) the units are ex display will generally be in poor condition and have a huge circular scratch where the kensington locks have been. Not a bad price but call ahead and ask to save disappointment and a journey.
This is a discontinued one, I have this from ages ago when they first come out and paid £80 from eBay that was a couple months old. I run 1080p MKV absolutely fine on it with windows 10, 4GB RAM and a 64GB SSD. I've ran H265 through there fine at 720p, but not tried 1080p as yet.
On a side note, I always playback 1080p in Kodi, but more recently got a plex server sorted and just use that these days. I imagine a more lightweight OS will run better.
that one for sure.

Yeah mine struggled with some HD h.265 content, it can't play everything you could throw at it.

It just about can on Windows 10 which is not that impressive when you acually try it. The video memory setting in the BIOS needs upping to 32MB as well if I remember rightly. A while since I messed with it. I've also tried Linux Mint on it too and installed video acceleration and it was still poor.

If you look on ebay there are three Maplin stores selling them for the sane price postage free. Will save you finding a store near you. HTH.
