V Tac GU10 LED Lamps. Found a small quantity in Barry, Glamorgan, but could be in all stores, stock allowing. These are 5W (320lm output) which should be faily bright. They claim a 2 year warranty. Will probably be brighter than the ones in Poundland. Worth a try! Didnt buy one so cannot comment any further.

Not only that, some of the cheapest ones are also very poorly made and potentially pose a shock risk. (There are plenty of tear-downs on Youtube showing this).

£1.99 ones amongst the brightest. I replaced all my gu10's over two years ago (approx 50 bulbs) have had to replace 3 or 4 in over 2 year's that's quality.

6-8% failure rate? Not that quality really.

Never mind OP, thanks for taking the time to actually create an offer that may save others cash!

For LED bulbs I find that they rarely last for more than 6 months.
Sometimes 1 month.
So, if a LED bulb actually lasts for 2 years, that would be impressive.
My longest lasting LED bulb (I've used many different brands), I think is around 6 months.

Wont vote hot or cold as I don't know the qualify without using. I have spent alot of money on gu10 LEDs over the last few years usually on the strength of good reviews and have never been impressed either with brightness or last ability. I've bought Philips, every ready and other less know makes and would not recommend any strongly. In the middle of last year I bought some pro lec ones from CPC Farnel and have found the 5w version to be brighter than standard 40w, and so far(touch wood)I have had no failures and at around £2 per bulb they so far seem well worth it.

What brands have you used? I would suggest something is wrong with your wiring or you are not actually buying 'branded' LEDs if they are failing that soon and that regularly.
I've replaced all the lighting in my house with a combination of Verbatim and Philips LED and not had a single failure. One of the points of LED is the long lifespan - 20,000 hours plus.

The ECOLIGHT GU10 in H&B are absolutely reliable. I have one at the top of the stairs and it been on for 3 years - 24-7. And they stay very bright.
I've used dozens in jobs I've done and tell the client to call me if they fail. No problems in 3 years.

I bought some of these LED''s "day white" from nationallighting for about £1.80 each which I thought were a good buy. Looks like I should of looked at home bargains first.

Wow, sounds like some shonky wiring or lousy PSU drivers for your led bulbs maybe?
Or are you using them with an unsuitable dimmer switch?
Either way i'd be concerned.

I've had 4 of these running for 6+ months, and like all the other vtac ones I have (13x ses golf balls) they are excellent.
I paid £1 each in poundland, and at that price they are unbeatable.

I think practically all the LED bulbs in my house are 2 years old, the oldest, a strip light in the kitchen has been installed for at least 6 years and because it's attached to computerised lighting, I know how many times it's been switched on and an approximate number of hours, which is currently just over 10000hrs. These particular lights had to be LED because they go through so many on/off cycles CFL bulbs just wouldn't cut it.
There are a few reasons why you might experience problems
1) Cheap Chinese LEDs, the power supplies in these are often shoddy and can be dangerous, I've seen the heat sink connected to the live mains side in the past, almost guaranteeing an electric shock.
2) You're not using LED power supplies, although most will work, an LED prefers a nice stable voltage, proper electronic drivers are vastly more accurate than old style wall wart supplies.
3) Cheap LEDs are less reliable, though to be fair, I've had a few pairs of GU10s from Home Bargains (not this brand Ecolight I think), last many months so far and not only were they a fraction of the price of my others, they're also very bright.
4) Your house wiring is really poor quality or you live in California and suffer from brown outs.

Had no problem with the ones I got from Poundland about 4 months ago, people like bigclive on youtube seems to rate them quite well. They are surprisingly bright, as good as ones you'd have to pay at least 5x as much for a year or two ago.
