Yes, as nothing shows how you care about someone as much as a knife!:smile:

Would make excellent gift for someone who loves to cook, if looked after will last a lifetime. Can be a talking point if a guest recognise them and would be lovely if your loved one tells them that it was a gift from you. Brownie points all round.
A much better gift than the usual run of the mill gifts which are forgotten about very quickly.

If you buy these make sure you buy an AnySharp to go with them, then they will never dull :smirk:

Thanks, I don't have those two knives. The peeler is a bonus.
The G2 is £99 on its own.

The G2 is one of the knives that is prone to snapping. Be careful, we have the pictures to prove it.

terrible knives. better off spending more on a kasumi, tog or even kai shun. Sorry but a long use of a global handle is bad for your hands.

Bit off topic, but I've given up trying to find a decent set of knives with a knife block to sit on the kitchen worktop.
Ended up buying these from Costco - incredibly sharp, comfortable and the blade shape really helps when chopping food. Not the best looking handle, so they live in the drawer, but for £15 they're a serious bit of kit.
just ordered trying to get a full set via offers like this

I would never recommend Global Knives.
We used to believe the hype until we had 2 knives snap out of our set. Both snapped at the same place where the blade meets the handle as they are welded.
Supposed to have a lifetime guarantee but they ignore you. Seller (Russums) don't want to know as over a year old. You just end up playing email tennis with Global in Sheffield.
Awful customer service and quality. Search online for the many issues with blades snapping off. So dangerous!

I've not had an issue, some of my knives are years old and take a lot of use.
Perhaps you should get in touch with Grunwerg who are the company behind Global. Tel 01142756700. I've not heard of Russums but they are on the authorised stockists list.

I did contact the distributor you mentioned and they fobbed me off like I mentioned. There is also plenty of other cases online if where the knives have snapped in exactly the same place so it is an inherent problem.
We are just annoyed that we spent hundreds of pounds believing them to be a quality product with a lifetime guarantee. The guarantee is worth nothing if they do not honour it.
If it was just one knife I would be peeved but for 2 to develop the same issue is a dangerous issue. They have been well looked after as they are my OH's babies  even he will never go near another Global knife.
Very disappointed :disappointed:

Heat! I brought these as I've had my eye on them for a while.
Whats the best way to learn to use and care for knives of this quality?

Learn to sharpen your knives using good quality stones, steels and leathers or the edge of the car window in a pinch. Buying good quality knives also means a second investment in a decent stone or two.
At the very least, a sharpening system (Lansky is easy to use and not too expensive but for the love of your wallet don't use these with an Anysharp). If you can afford it buy proper sharpening stones (Global ones are okay but overpriced). The stones need to be soaked in cold water for a while, then you run the edge of the blade carefully at an angle, many times until a thin black paste develops on the stone. Ideally two different grades or 'grits' one coarse one fine. The back of a leather belt will remove the final tiny metal dust particles.
Sharpening knives takes time and patience to master. YouTube has lots of videos so watch a few and see what they have in common (the official Global one isn't very useful) and you'll see time and equipment are equally important investments. A good knife edge should be like glass, smooth enough that if you cut yourself you won't feel it at first. Take care of your knives and they'll see you for a decade or better.

I have to ask what people are doing to snap them?

Nothing out of the ordinary. Was chopping vegetables at the time. I think there is an inherent weakness point where they weld the bladeto the handle and after a period of time they snap.
As another poster has had the same issue you can now see my case is not an isolated issue. It is also well documented on other forums. I'm just peeved that the "lifetime guarantee" is not worth anything.

And I have to ask,why you guys so passionate about knives.
I've had the same set for 15 years, bought from somewhere like Argos cost around £25 never sharpened them, and they cut and slice my food up without any effort!
Are you all butchers or something?

There's a section on the Aussie global site about what to do if your knife snaps, seems a bit vague in terms of what is a manufacturer's fault. http://www.globalknives.com.au/faq

The distributor is in Sheffield. I contacted them on many occasions. They just kept passing me back to Russums who would not help as over a year old.
I have given up after wasting hours trying to resolve it. I just wanted to let others know that the lifetime guarantee is worth zilch.
Thanks anyway
