Just got mine from dyson direct with free tool kit for £199. Very straight forward transaction, getting delivered tomorrow.

You have to remember that this cordless only runs while pressing the trigger so the short battery time goes a long way considering you can easily switch on and off when moving furniture and objects. We manage to do pretty much all of our 3 bed semi on one charge as its easier to manoeuvre especially without the cord and therefore quicker. However we often do downstairs one day and upstairs another day. Great but of kit

For those looking at one, but are a little unsure, I can provide a little insight into them.

I've had mine for the last 6 months, and personally it was the best thing I bought for my new house. I find I don't mind using it often, since it's so light and easy to use - especially once it's been wall-mounted.

I use mine every day. Since on 'max' it'll last only about 8 minutes, it means I'm not vacuuming for ages each day. I do the following:
- Top floor & kitchen/hallway
- Middle floor & kitchen/hallway
- Stairs & kitchen/hallway

Keeps my house very clean and taking just a few minutes I do it when I get up in the morning. Also, you will need to empty it after each use - it gets full quick (and my house is not particularly dirty, it's pretty much new-build, no pets and no kids - although a messy lodger).

I've been impressed with it, with my only gripe really being that it doesn't seem to circulate very well in the cylinder - keeping the dust/dirt on one side... Very odd, but hasn't affected performance.

Edit: I have the 'Absolute', which comes with a larger standard head, better performance, and some useful stuff, so that's worth noting. Personally I couldn't be without the stairs attachment (called the 'mini tool' I think), but don't use the hard floor attachment - doesn't seem to be required. I'm pretty sure you could live without the larger head and better performance as well.

is there a comparison chart anywhere showing the difference between the models? I'm trying to work out the difference between the v6 standard and the v6 total clean - for £130 extra I can't seem to work out what the difference is?

You get used to the battery use/charger times. I bought the total clean last year and would NOT be without it. I have 3 cats which it copes fantastically with. I also have a horrendously bad back... This device lets me clean everyday. Well worth the money.

The usable time from full charge would certainly put me off spending £200.
Mr Dyson, if you're reading these comments perhaps design a battery which can be removed and charged independently, like cordless drill batteries, at least you'd have a fully charged backup if you go flat halfway through a clean.

Also got one of these, think its been well over a year now and we love it. I should preface this by saying we predominantly have hard flooring.

I think the tradeoff between portability/size/weight will only suit you if you adjust your cleaning habits. As an ad-hoc regular use device its great and thats how we prefer to operate our cleaning regime. Quick clean of the passage every day, quick clean of the lounge every day or two, spills/etc cleaned as and when they happen as is the rest of that room, clean of other rooms when you have a bit of time spare.

If on the other hand you stick to a scheduled whole house clean (depending on the size of the house) it may not be suitable. It's not just because of the battery, there's also the refuse compartment which is relatively small. The problem is to address those issues will add weight/bulk/impact ergonomics and so detract from what its currently perfect for (the ad hoc approach we use). Having said that my wife still uses it for the whole house clean as coupled with the ad-hoc approach the house is relatively clean to begin with so the battery lasts long enough.

NB: The only issue we really have is the rotating head needs cleaning more often then our conventional hoover (which we don't use anymore). It seems more prone to hair/fibres getting tangled up and has a few nooks where things can get stuck.

I have DC59 Animal and the battery is not an issue. We just tend to clean downstairs in one day and then upstairs the next day. Absolutely brilliant bit of kit and if it broke I'd buy another straight away.

animal has the extra brush head and a wider standard head.

I've been looking closely for some time and I'm sure the animal just has the added mini motorised tool which you could probably buy for around £40. It's only the total clean/absolute which have the increased drive on the rotating bush bar but then looking, that reduces battery life from 20 to 14 minutes. This does seem the best value overall.

Can anyone tell me the difference between this and the animal version? Is it really just an additional head?

I've got one of these. Not massively impressed tbh. Suction is good, battery life is pretty poor, it's massively annoying when it goes flat in the middle of using it.

Just pulled the trigger.

Phoned Dyson direct. £199.98 and got the free, 3 piece tool-kit as per previous deals.

It may come down in price again later in the year but I want it now god damn it!!!
