Currently there are many people my age, mid 40's who remember the originals of things and unfortunately this leads to reboots hence reviving the names or rehashing games for sentimental/reminiscent reasons. Computer games have been around since the 1950s but their increasing complexity is in the last 30 years or so.
As a name this says to me remember the past but f%ck the past, no introduction necessary, I am Doom! So it's a statement of intent as well as a homage to the past, that's how I see it. I could be wrong maybe the marketing team can't count past three.

How about we don't preorder, we wait for release and then watch and read some reviews?
The game will not depreciate in value, your hair won't fall out and your wife won't leave you! There is never any reason to preorder, unless it's hardware; for software: no reason!!!

I thought Doom 3 was an incredible game. It had atmosphere by the bucketload, but legions of idiots failed to grasp it and they cried that they couldn't use the torch and a gun at the same time.

Looks closer to the newer Halo games than it does to Q3/UT.

I fear this will be another tech demo like Doom 3 was, devoid of any meaningful gameplay but looks really nice. I was always a UT person myself, hard to separate UT/Q3 at the time but I think UT had the edge in 1999.
I've seen some YouTube videos of this game, looks awesome in terms of graphics, still to be convinced it has any decent gameplay though, I expect games of this type now to be push boundaries not giving us the same gameplay of 20 years ago with posh graphics. Hope I'm wrong as I'd like to play something like this that looks this good. For now Rise of The Tomb Raider has the best graphics I've seen in a game currently and will soon be topped by other games this year.
Graphics don't make a game, gameplay does. Lets hope this graphics demo comes with a decent game as well.

Looking on steam it seems to be the following:
So just the usual little pre-order bonus, certainly not enough to make me risk a pre-order. I'm hoping the game will be good but I'll wait until I know before ordering.

while I agree pre-orders are generally bad for obvious reasons, in the case of cdkeys.com, usually the price goes way up after the game is released and stays that way for quite awhile. RRP for this is £39.99, I expect cdkeys to up the price to something like £32.99 on release day and hold that price for at least a month.

By atmosphere you mean it was too dark to see almost everywhere and something jumped out at you or spawned behind you every 20 paces? The scares became so predictably that the were more annoying than scary by time you had done half of a first play through.

Played the alpha. Multiplayer will be dead in 2 weeks IMO too casual and slow for the console kids. Unreal tournament is free and is better. Campaign could be fun though.
Blizzard for example are balancing console overwatch completely separately to pc. Dont need to worry about game speed slowing down and other such compromises that need to be made for it to work on console.

i liked Doom 3 it was a very good game. Q3 and UT where both excellent games one was high speed madness the other was hip fired headshots but I wouldn't say one was better than the other in that case.

Incredible if you've literally never played an FPS before, even when it was released in 2004 the gameplay was dated.

I started with Wolf3D. It was called Doom 3, were you expecting something other than Doom?
fishmaster
28 Mar 16#32
Exactly that is early 1990s gameplay with modern graphics. Things have moved on from that, gaming has got a lot more complex, anyway there's nothing wrong with liking primitive gameplay, I haven't played the new Doom yet obviously and I could be wrong but I expect primitive gameplay from it.
Which is:
1. Walk or run in a 3D environment
2. Choose from around 10 weapons eventually
3. Shoot bad things
4. Repeat steps 1-3 until you become bored or finish the game.

fps is still the same. in fact most are less advanced. battlefield is more advanced on movement and destruction but that's about it.

Ah your response is an attempt at humour in response to me assuming that Doom will just be Doom with modern graphics. It's a fair assumption on my part, and I have stated that " I haven't played the new Doom yet obviously and I could be wrong but I expect primitive gameplay from it." , so rather than saying for definite what I believe Doom to be, I've actually just guessed which is the same as anyone predicting the future, because you can't predict the future.
Sorry so what was the reason for your post?

No, what you did was described every FPS in history.
fishmaster
29 Mar 16#39
So what was the reason for your post? Sarcasm for sarcasm's sake? I'm a veteran of FPS games you're completely wrong about FPS games, there have been ones with original and different gameplay such as UT2003/4, Joint Ops Escalation, Half Life series, Soldier of Fortune 2, COD MW2, which have all broke the FPS mould in some way. Doom gameplay is hopelessly primitive compared to any of the above.
The point I've made is that Doom is Doom and it's primitive gameplay, if you like Doom fair enough, I've made the assumption that this new Doom is the same old primitive FPS gameplay with modern graphics. Just like Doom 3 was essentially a tech demo devoid of any meaningful gameplay.
Also check out the forthcoming Superhot if you think FPS games are just the same old same old.

There are some interesting new modes for multiplayer

There's a closed multiplayer beta coming up between March 31 and April 3. If the new modes prove to be good, I might bite on this.
