The dhb R1.0 offers comfort, confidence and capabilities way above its modest price point. The combination of simplicity, quality and function makes it perfect for training, commuting, leisure and sportive riding. The R1.0 is compatible with Shimano SL and Look Keo 3 bolt pedal/cleat systems making it an ideal low-cost introduction to performance cycle footwear. The shoe is not for use with MTB cleats even though it may features drilling for them.
Glass Reinforced Nylon Polymer Sole
The R1.0 sole is built to ensure every watt of energy in your pedal stroke is transferred to the drivetrain and none is lost as flex. The midsole is constructed from premium grade glass reinforced nylon polymer and shaped using stress analysis software to achieve the optimum strength to weight balance. The outsole features textured contact points for traction and stability when walking.
Synthetic Upper
The R1.0 upper is designed to offer a supple, comfortable fit with minimum bulk, effective ventilation and maximum durability. The cuff is lightly padded for a snug, secure fit and quad-core mesh inserts are built into the side panels for air circulation. The toe box features airflow perforations for a balance of heat exchange and chill protection in colder winter conditions.
A thermo-plastic heel counter built into the rear of the shoe provides added support and stiffness for a secure fit when sprinting and increased control when clipping in and out of your pedals.
3 Strap closure
Closure is handled by a simple 3 strap system for quick and easy entry/exit. The straps are positioned to provide even retention along the length of your foot for a comfortable, pressure-free fit. The straps connect directly to the upper to ensure no energy is lost to stretch in the up-stroke stage of your pedalling motion.

Great shoe, sturdily made. Do fit on the small side though even with normal socks and especially with seal skinz

I always order my normal size and the size above when buying cycling shoes. It's easy (and free) to send them back via Collect+ if not correct size.

Yes. You can get 25 or 50 hot wheels cars, if that is what you want.

Can any recommend a pair of cheap-ish combination pedals? Wiggle's got these on offer, but I'm not sure if "SPD" and "SPD-SL" is compatible/the same?

There is a line in the shoe's spec : "The shoe is not for use with MTB cleats even though it may features drilling for them.". The pedals you have linked to are SPD/2 bolt system (broadly equates to SPD). If these shoes are 3 bolt system (which it also states on the page "Compatible with 3 bolt Shimano SPD-SL and Look Keo cleat/pedal systems"), then these are the cleat/pedal systems to look for.
Depending on your level of experience/preference, I would suggest starting with SPD if you are relatively inexperienced, specifically shoes that take SPD cleats as these are generally easier to clip in to. SPD-SL or equivalent are quite a tight clip to the pedal, and more difficult to release out of. This is why 2 bolt SPD is usually targetted at MTB (more clip in and out) and 3 bolt SPD-SL at road bikes (less clip in and out). However, there is nothing stopping you fitting SPD pedals on a road bike (or cross/commuter bike etc.), they are not the sole preserve of MTB. Depends on the frequency of how much clip in/out you expect to do with your style/type of riding.
Hope this helps.

Cheers, helps a lot! The dual-sided SPD it is then. I'm just riding a cheap Triban 500se, and I don't want to get in all the gear for the daily 10km commute. So the clip-ons are just for the occasional times I can be arsed to work up a sweat :-)

You might want to consider some combination pedals like these to give you both options:
The mtb spd shoes are usually concealed below the outer grip of the sole so far easier to walk on too, whereas road shoes are flat soled with the clip stuck out

Will these be suitable for use in spinning classes. Obvious need to get the cleats seperately

All the spin bikes I have seen have flat pedals with straps on one side of the pedals and SPD on the other. SPD is the two bolt style, commonly (but inaccurately) referred to as Mountain bike cleats.
These are three bolt SPD-SL shoes (commonly referred to as Road bike cleats) - so no good for spin bikes I would think.

You might want to consider some combination pedals like these to give you both options:

I would also think about shoes with recessed cleats if you are wanting to walk anywhere at the end of your commute.

These are three bolt SPD-SL shoes (commonly referred to as Road bike cleats) - so no good for spin bikes I would think.
For SPD, you want something like these: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/dhb-m10-mountain-bike-cycling-shoe/
