I've not seen any data anywhere that requires anyone to have 32GB physical RAM to game with. If they do, they probably got broken drivers installed or the game is terribly optimised.

There was a video knocking about a couple of weeks back saying that by using top ram you could prolong the life of a 2500k even longer... Would this make much difference over the 1600MHz stuff? That's what I have now.

I think it depends on the game. Fallout 4 for example benefits a lot from quicker memory.

This is the video you are looking for and yeah, faster RAM increases CPU performance in games and you get more out of your overclock. But the thing to bear in mind that this only happens if your CPU is the bottleneck. It'll make little difference if you're hitting GPU limits. But in fairness, maxing out a 2500K ain't difficult these days as the vid demonstrates:
The VRAM is allocated in virtual address space for the CPU. Used VRAM. If you ran a game that used 4/5GB, that's 20GB allocated already with game usage. 4 GPU's. You could run it with 8GB but you'll be hitting that pagefile hard.
I was consuming over 16GB memory (no pagefile) with 2 3GB GPU's at 1920x1080 with GTA V.

So let's say for example you have 4 x Titan X GPUs, you need 32GB RAM to play a game at 1440p? If that's so why would you have 4 X Titan X GPUs and 32GB RAM to only play at 1440p? What if you play at 4K?
Obviously I'm deliberately being an idiot here, I can't find a reason to have 32GB for any game even with multiple Titan X GPUs of which more than two is pointless anyway for gaming.

Not unless you have multiple GPU's.

No need, but at this price why not lol. Do you do anything else with your pc (I'm a photographer so 32gb is worthwhile for me).

Basicially they did a major version jump and can't downgrade to the older 1.x series, I can only switch between the 3.x versions but I have the same issue when I switch those

I had 16GB (4x4GB) ram in my machine, but I decided to update the BIOS hoping it would help with an issue I was having at the time. The update didn't help, but since then the mobo only reads 8GB of ram. I've tried installing the sticks in pairs, in ram slots 1 and 3 and then in 2 and 4 in which case every module worked. The issue is when I put them all in together. They're all matching sticks and all that
I'm tempted to get this in hope that 2x 8GB sticks will register properly at 16GB. If it doesn't work is there any chance I can return them to Amazon?
I'm just looking for a quick/cheap fix for now, as I will be going for a fresh Skylake at some point.

Did you try flashing an older BIOS revision, or even a newer one?
