I use my card at least once a month with the kids, the potential savings a year are easily £100.00+ get it ordered now ready for the summer cinema lineup..

can be used in conjunction with special autism screenings.

If you are a carer of a disabled Person or Child above the age of 8 Years old you can get free access to the vast majority of UK cinemas when accompanying the said disabled person.

The disabled Person needs to be in receipt of disability benefits, DLA, AA, etc..

Its very simple to get you go to https://www.ceacard.co.uk/ and complete the on-line application, alternatively you can complete a postal application too.

The application is for the the disabled person so any responsible adult can be considered the carer, you DO NOT need to be in receipt of carer's allowance.

There is an admin cost of £6.00 per application. which is less than a cinema ticket, so pays for itself after one screening.

I use mine for my autistic boys aged 10 and 14 who while enjoy the cinema could very easily be taken advantage of in the wrong situations so need a responsible adult to accompany them.

Go to https://www.ceacard.co.uk/participatingcinemas.aspx and enter your postcode to see if your local cinemas are participating.

Also remember this is for genuine people who need to accompany a disabled person/s to the Cinema, do not try to take advantage of these schemes as they rely on the goodwill of the cinema and the support of the scheme, fraudulent applications could ruin this in future for genuine users of the scheme.

Repost but been a good 7 months and will benefit many people.

Please lets keep the comments nice here, there is no need for nasty comments about disabled people getting something for nothing etc.. if you disagree then just walk away and play some angry birds :D

We've got these for my wife and my son, both who have disabilities. They are great and we never had a problem using them. They pay for themselves on the first full price film you go to. They both have DLA and that is what we used as proof.

Not that this post has had any negative yet but we'd happily trade in the DLA, cinema entry extra for a normal life but small perks help that little bit.

Worth checking your local cinema before paying for this. Many already offer careers free entry. Blue badge or award letter usually does the trick. Same goes for many attractions, theme parks, zoo's, etc. You'll be surprised and if you don't ask, you don't get.

Happy to say this card has already been going for at least a few years :smiley:

A few bits of useful information for Odeon cinema goers in particular: you can use this card when reserving tickets online if you make an Odeon account (not completely recent news but wasn't always the case), or if you don't have a card you can phone their accessibility helpline and reserve your tickets including a carer ticket that way

Is this eligible with pip
natz265 to sam2828
24 Mar 16 1 #5
Yes
currently people who receive one of the following benefits are eligible:
•Disability Living Allowance (DLA);
•Attendance Allowance (AA);
•Blind Persons Registration;
•Personal Independence Payment (PIP); and
•Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP).
damster to sam2828

You don't need pip, in fact you don't even need the card. It's up to the cinemas to provide reasonable adjustments. If you have a need for a carer simply explain to the box office (usually on dedicated help lines, or via the box office in person) you are disabled and need assistance, without it you cannot attend. Also ask if creating an account with venues to put a note on your account, that you need a carer. It makes follow on bookings that much easier.Generally companies are responsive, you do not even need a benefit letter in some cases. On a few occasions one of those " I have a certain disability" cards have even sufficed. Be assertive and don't back down. Good luck.

Absolutely, although a lot of places now request a GP's letter that has been stamped. but another benefit of using the card is you can book online and in advance.

A very worthy initiative. A couple of hours break for a carer and disabled person will be very gratefully received by many people.

Heat. Not applicable for me but I'm so pleased that this exists. This sounds like a truly wonderful initiative for the many carers and disabled people to have some respite and enjoyment. To make life a little bit easier. I only wish that there werent those that abuse this scheme and other benefits which will ultimately results in cuts from those in genuine need.

Batman v Superman is from this Good Friday 25th March 2016?, & no sooner? (or you know somewhere that rolled it out prior to that ... ) lol. :-)

I find having this card is also useful for proof of eligability for other venues - such as theme parks etc.
Now there are no longer Benefit Books to show....
Otherwise you always need to carry a copy of your latest letter from Benefit office as proof of what benefit the person is in receipt of.

So basically everytime you go to the cinema you are paying for one person and the other is free is that necessarily what this means? Was going to apply for this myself recently

The disabled person pays or has something like the Cineworld unlimited card then the carer gets the same ticket for free in exchange for the help that they give to the disabled person.

£6 for a service that should be provided to you without charge by law, shocking.
derek145 to damster
25 Mar 16 #31
The charge is more an administration charge for processing the card, it's the cinemas that are behind it I think rather than any Government department.
linzielegs to damster
25 Mar 16 #33
you don't have to buy one, you can just take proof of disability instead but the card is usually simpler.

Had a card for my kids for about 5 years now and use it every week, not sure if every cinema takes them but Odeon and Cineworld certainly do. A bit off topic but there are a multitude of benefits you can get if your kids, like mine, have autism such as free bus travel. A little bit of research in your local authority area should help with these benefits that you are entitled to.

Anyone with disability can also go to the theatre with either a free carer or both disabled person and carer get a reduced rate, just call the accessibility line, we saw wicked in London for £52 total for stalls seats with 3 of us, should have been more than £100

You have to be aged 8 and over.
mrs nev
25 Mar 16 #38
they must have changed it as i used to have one when my son was younger.

Question:
Who is eligible for a card?
Answer:
The eligibility criteria are kept under review and maybe updated from time to time; currently people who receive one of the following benefits are eligible:
Disability Living Allowance (DLA);
Attendance Allowance (AA);
Blind Persons Registration;
Personal Independence Payment (PIP); and
Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP).
Additionally, limitations placed on Cinemas by their local licenses require children and young people under 8 years of age to be accompanied by a responsible person; consequently applications for cards can only be considered for people who are 8 years of age or older.
Rich44

Shame they do this also include those in Support group ESA with the disability component now that PIP is next to impossible to claim.

I've put off claiming PIP for so long because of the dodgy WCA & then having to do a MR then go to court for an appeal just figured it wasn't worth it but could really use the extra help plus it'd mean wife could claim carers allowance too as she has to support me too just waiting for my WCA now managed to get into Support group ESA without one based on my paperwork & evidence I sent so I'm kinda hoping for a similar result but not really expecting it.

Can't believe the gov were trying to change points scored if you use an aid to make it even harder to qualify.

Also I came on this thread expecting to see countless nasty posts about scroungers and people expecting something for nothing (like a disabled person would rather a freebie entry to the cinema instead of good health) but I was pleasantly surprised so thank you to everyone who's posted on thus thread you've restored my faith in humanity a little.
