Maybe. Maybe not. If its not labeled then most won't chance it & most won't care either way

The pack I bought in ASDA says "Reared in New Zealand" and "Slaughtered in New Zealand".
To me it seems absolutely crazy to transport lamb half way around the world while at the same time British family farms are struggling to survive financially. As an island surely it must make sense to retain the ability to feed ourselves.

The supermarkets don't care about British farmers. They just want to buy it at the lowest price and sell for as high as possible.

AFAIK it's a gas that's used to sterilise the packing process / maintain freshness. As you say, it dissipates within 5-10 mins. Sometimes I have seen this noted on the packaging of products.

I see you no longer want to stick to the subject. I can't provide you with a link that cows ate meatfeed either - but it happened. I am making an analogy. The point being: you can't trust british produce. Nobody knows what their animals eat. They produce food at a higher price than produce from the other side of the planet- they need to rip you off for everything.

Can you provide any evidence that British lambs are fed horsemeat? What is your source? Please provide a link.

No. The subject was whether this is halal New Zealand or not. These is nothing in the description that says this is british (as you say it does). I mention what the british gave to cows to eat as a mark of their utter stupidity.

The topic is Lamb not Cows. Stick to the subject. Welsh Lamb is the best. (Wales is in Britain).

Some resentment or rudeness against "British", seems a little racist?

The clever british were feeding cows meat feed for years and was only discovered when people started getting mad cow disease. British beef still lags behind the world sales because of it. Nobody else fed meat to cows- just the clever british. Who knows what they feed lambs.

The British lambs eat real grass and are not frozen for shipment. That's why they are not stringy. Lambs don't eat horsemeat they cannot digest it. So I think you should amend your post.

That's because NZ lamb get to run around in fields and eat real grass instead of horsemeat feed like the british ones.

I lived in NZ for many years and the locals prefer British Lamb They reckon that New Zealand lamb is too stringy! I myself prefer British Beef.

I've just eaten the last of the legs of lamb I bought in this deal last year. I thought space in the freezer was too good to last :P

Plastic-wrapped meat usually smells a bit funny when you first open it. Goes away after a few minutes. Not sure what it is, but it's nothing to worry about.

There is nothing to say it is British in the Description. It says packed in Leeds- that does not mean it is British. However, one review says it IS British and not NZ, so you may be right. However, there are 2 reviews that says it smelled "rotten". I think in that case, I will leave this lamb for the "British"

What's the quality of this lamb likely to be, don't really by asda meat as they have a local butchers counter at our local store.
Opening post
Good for filling the freezer.
