I looked into getting this as a great deal and my contract had just ran out, was looking ideally for a 1 month contract. In the end i got deal with three for £20 a month with unlimited data, text and min and also 12gb tethering. All in all not bad

A question please...I am about to have BT broadband installed and after that I will go for this sim...what will happen after 12 months if I move my BB service to another company? will they put the sim monthly rent to £25? I am hoping it will continue after the 12 month at £20 on monthly basis

? Erh.. I don't? I was referring to the point that there are *other* ways to connect to BT services and not
just the public wifi options..
Been tethering on BTmobile since it started [obviously not on a Crapple iBone] and as long as you do
not use it for P2P or Torrent crap downloads and other obvious against T&C sites.. its not an issue..
Anyway it will not be long before all the new ISP filters come into play and as most of the back hauls
for the towers, that supply the data target transponders actually get routed through BT hardware and
dark central fiber links. This will stop *most* traffic from *most* crap places and torrents via tethering..
BTmobile will have the advantage, as to if they then *allow* tethering in the PM contracts when all the
above happens eventually.. so should be good for all BT/EE mobile users ;-)

8 Mar 16#58
I'm so glad that you work in a location that you can receive free public wifi, personally I don't, that's why I need to be able to tether, afterall every other major mobile network provider allows tethering on their pay monthly contracts, yet bt doesn't as per their own terms and conditions, sorry until bt allow you to use the data that you're paying for how you want it's still cold here for me
Maxow
8 Mar 16#57
Does it not depend on whether you set the data up with BT's app. I just turned data on and it works ok, I think, on my iPhone 6.

i got this a few weeks back for £16 for existing BT Broadband customers with £40 amazon voucher and £40 quidco. Is the £17 price for non-BT customers? If so, then hot.
Incognitoso
8 Mar 16#52
Do not know where you use these data 20 GB
Home WiFi
Work WiFi
Public places most of them WiFi - For Security reason I do not connecting using my phones data
So real place for data usage is public place
Now biggest data usage is youtube - or movies stream
To do this you need to be on the bus , train , or car someone . to be still
I do think that when you walk you not watching movies
So how much time you spend sitting or relaxing per day ?? me not much time to what anything
Now signal quality moving ?? - losing connection needs to be in open spaces where transmitter can reach you to stream HD quality . Im not talking about signal it self but when say train moves signal one place can be ok next place none
I have before T-mobile unlimited an max what I use 6gb maybe can reach 8 GB

Your post is full of assumptions about how people use their phones.. It's not up to you to decide how people should or should not or can or cannot use their phones based on your usage. Good for you ifg that's all you use but to be honest... who cares?

The ability to tether will probably vary based on the device.
I know on 3 they have separate APN's that are used by later model Android devices, depending on the function you are using (Tethering vs Non Tethering) but these were only recently applied on newer non custom s/w versions.
This is why SIM only can be a bit of a minefield, and certain functions available on a particular network may not work correctly in a device that has not been sourced from them.
socialmammal

Yes I know giffgaff did that. There are many software that can tell the difference of traffic from a mobile vs non mobile devices.

my prior experience of bt is that if someone says 17 quid on the phone they will bill you 20 quid and you wont be able to cancel! i had to sign up to bt broadband to get bt vision. turns out bt broadband wasn't fast enough in my area for bt vision. but they wouldn't let me cancel until i threatened them with ofcom!

More interesting phenomenon is that when people read in caps the voice in their head starts screaming. Or maybe they wake the house up if they read it out loud.

Can anyone tell me how a phone company would know if you are tethering? I don't see how they can police it.
Easy to for mobile companies to see if it's mobile traffic or full web page traffic via laptop etc. Would they care, probably not if you are not taking the ****, I'm more interested in how would it work if they remove that option on the iPhone with the APN update?
