My Hayter has been great. At least ten years if not more and still working although finally an important piece of plastic broke off. Needs replacing but I can find nothing sub 150 quid of similar quality. Just cheap cr*p everywhere all likely made in the same Chinese factory. Everything, not just lawn mowers, these days seems to be made to last a couple of years unless you pay top dollar. I was really disappointed with the Bosch mowers, very flimsy plastic and awkward adjusters. Fed up with cheap stuff everywhere.

How tricky is the piece of plastic to fix up? If you can find somebody who is handy at making things it could possibly be worked around without too much trouble depending on what it does.

Excellent mower, bought last year

I suspect the one with no problem is this type (simple, single on/off switch on handle) and the one which leaves the grass turds is the newer 'Ergo' type. Am I right? This is based on my experience mentioned in post #14 above.

But if they'd just made the old type in China it would still be OK. They're making the same mistake as Flymo did before: letting the marketing department run product design so they add 'features' no one needs and turn a very simple but effective machine into a fancier piece of carp.

Sadly for stuff like this the lower the price the better it sells even if it ends up being poor value for money.
I had a Mountfield princess mower with induction motor that lasted more than 20 years. Current Mountfields are built like this Bosch - cheap with brushed universal motor and belt drive. That makes it noisy, inefficient and the brushes will wear out in a couple of years (if the rest of the mower lasts that long). Ended up buying a 41cm Hayter with induction motor and metal frame - cost nearly 4 times as much as this Bosch but will likely work out cheaper.

I would avoid this lawnmower - bought this from Amazon last year and it makes a mess of my lawn with a lot of grass escaping the collection box which means having to rake the lawn afterwards.

You're not emptying it enough :smirk:

Years ago I replaced a horrible Flymo with a larger (37cm) version of this and it was a revelation - simple but fantastic performance and great results without leaving all the 'grass turds' behind that the Flymo did. I recommended it to many people.
Last year I replaced it with a newer version (distinguished by different handles, etc. called Ergo 37R or something like that) which was on a great offer in Homebase - what a mistake! Now made in China and seemed underpowered (despite same 1400W power rating) and flimsy; and the cord was shorter too. Nowhere near as good as the one it replaced; in fact it was so bad I thought it was faulty. Bosch didn't answer emails or return calls. Exchanged it under warranty at Homebase (no quibble) and the new one is just the same.
The one posted here (old style handles ) may be good but be wary of these once great machines. Such a pity.

You are not the first person I've heard say this or mention Bosch's lack of customer support

You get what you pay for I guess, at sub £100 you won't find one made in the UK or Europe.

Bought the one up from this (36R ) last year for a similar price when Amazon had an offer on. Fantastic lawnmower, much better cut than the flymo it replaced , wouldn't hesitate in buying another

Bosch products seem to be Poor quality lately, for instance the Bosch multitool pmf190e lasting only five minutes Bosch steam iron that doesn't heat up, I have had these problems with Bosch products and so has a lot of other people looking at reviews

Does anyone have the manual or know what size screws are used to hold the handlebars into the body of the mower? Noticed mine have come out when I used mine for the first time of the year last week.
