Many of you may class them as over-priced in the first place but these are big savings on Unregistered brand new cars.

This saving is based on financed cars, for cash purchases the price raises by £2,500, so savings are typically £9,500 instead.

Haha, not. That's not right anyway. The list price of a 2.0 Stronic Sport is £31K and Audi also offer a £5K despot it contribution towards a new TT. In fact currently, a 9month old TT is more expensive than a new one.

£27k aint bad for the 2.0T roadster sport with a bit of spec, but it's not like you wouldn't get roughly that from many other brokers. It's a convertible Audi TT. As long as you know the ahem 'image' you are getting with it.

No, the UK are one of the highest purchasers of drop top cars in Europe..... Maybe it's image or that we want the feel good factor that such a car brings for the short summer period that we have.... Obviously lots of people are willing to make the sacrifices you mentioned to have a convertible.

Totally agree. Audi were doing £5000 off list price 3 weeks ago. £2500 for taking 6.8% PCP and £2500 from dealer. So £22150 for Sport 1.8TFSI.

Salesman was not sure how long the offer would last (supposedly end of March but restrictions were likely as it approached).

Went it with wife to see just how expensive TTs were. Ended up buying a 1.8 TFSI Sport - didn't want to exceed our ability with anything more powerful. PCP option allows you to buy outright to avoid interest if you have the cash.

Now waiting 8-10 weeks for delivery :disappointed:

Buy or lease what's the verdict with the TT? I was going to get the 2nd gen TT 3 years ago, but instead got a Golf, was looking at used ones around £15K. The Golf has done 35K miles worth and is about £6k, could sell and get a lease. I'm mid 40's with no kids or wife so can lease what I want within reason. I'll have to check lease deals. 3 year lease is £13K, hmm puts me off, needs to be nearer £10K think I'm dreaming that I could find a longer lease term for nearer £10K

Golf R DSG. Then revo it. Then drag a 911 Carrera S so the Porsche owner watches in dismay as a poxy Golf stands toe to toe all the way to 100mph :stuck_out_tongue:

They just bounce off the line, it's beserk. Mapped they easily do 0-60mph in under 4s repeatably, you need something pretty bonkers to beat it to the national speed limit from a standing start.

"And the numbers are lunacy. A claimed 3.4 seconds to 60mph and 7.9 seconds to 100mph? In a Golf? Madness. The more so for how normal it feels from behind the wheel, as if this kind of performance from a VW hatch was to be expected."

I ordered the TTS with lots of options through Drivethedeal a couple of weeks. £8.5k off list price was a very good deal IMHO.
skdotcom
10 Mar 16 #51
I've already enquired with Revo about getting a TTS remap, not available yet though. Apparently it's not the exact same engine software set up as the Golf R, so the same remap wouldn't apply.
jrw
10 Mar 16 #52
Get a DTUK box. I have one in the garage waiting to go on once I have done a thousand or so miles on my R. People have had them on the rollers at 360bhp and measured without the box at 298bhp.
vulcanproject
10 Mar 16 1 #53
To be fair those figures are stage 3, which requires a few parts and costs a few grand. The stage 1 remap by itself (only £600) on a DSG equipped R still does like 3.8s to 60mph and ~9.0s to 100mph. Which is the kind of numbers you'll see from a new 911 S, more than twice the price of the Golf lol
indyjukebox
10 Mar 16 #54
Wonder how long the transmission will last with a stage 3? It's fine tuning the nuts off the car, but I can imagine expensive bills within the warranty period and even more expensive bills outside it. On the other hand the Porsche will be designed to cope with the power output and its owner's cackles as your souped up R explodes in a cloud of fumes will be quite distressing. As it is the Haldex is quite fussy with needing all 4 tyres to be within a certain percentage of the others tread depth etc. I for one wouldn't want to tune such a fussy car like the R.

I expect they know what they're doing.
vulcanproject
10 Mar 16 #57
Stage 3 would really be pushing it, and I would be hesitant on the standard gearbox although they are supposed to be strong. Stage 1 however I wouldn't think twice about it, nice gains but not outrageous.

Stage 1 alone is 911 Carrera S acceleration, at least up to 100mph. That is an £85k car new.

Stage 3 is 7.9s to 100mph? That's insane. XJ220, F40, Lambo LP640, Lexus LFA levels lol
indyjukebox
10 Mar 16 1 #58
The 911 CS is 420bhp vs the R at 375 (stage 1) or 400 (stage 2). Weights seem to be broadly similar. Not sure the R (stage 1) will really keep up. Even if it did, I would have the CS anyday. After our disastrous Audi experience, I don't think we would buy one ever again.
indyjukebox
10 Mar 16 1 #59
I have been burnt by that approach before. When the repair bills come in, the tuners dont really know you anymore and it is up to you prove the fault and then a lengthy battle to get your money back. Been there, got the t...... No thank you!
vulcanproject
10 Mar 16 #60
It's not that much about weight. The Golf R has superior traction so it is actually faster in the initial acceleration to 60mph, at which point the 911 S starts to catch it as the speeds rise so they hit 100mph at roughly the same moment- well beyond the national speed limit. The Porsche will eventually come past, but you'll both be doing way over 100mph at this point!

It's also not about whether you prefer a £30k Golf R or an £85k 2016 Porsche. It was just about how a £30k Golf with a cheap remap can go toe to toe with an £85k 2016 Porsche in a drag to jail baiting speeds. Which is fantastic any which way you flip it.
Shard
10 Mar 16 #61
So 28Mm, or roughly 17,000 miles. You get about a bit then ;-)
indyjukebox
10 Mar 16 #62
Which sounds ok, except as you rightly said you cannot really do that sort of stuff on normal roads. So then a track, where the CS is inherently better at handling, putting down the power and coping with it all reliably. I suppose it depends on what fascinates you. Pub talk fodder based on a souped up R or a properly designed sports coupe. I have driven the standard R and it wasnt for me. The ride is a bit too brittle, felt quite sterile and safe. The last gen CS on the other hand was a fantastic experience at a completely different level. Even compared to a M4, the CS is in a different league.

But I see your point even if still doesnt make me want to rush out and buy a Golf R.

Why would you class the £2500 separate? As I said, if you don't want that finance you just have it for the discount and then pay it off as soon as you pick up the car, within the first 14 days and pay no fees.
vulcanproject
10 Mar 16 #66
Yes but it's a Golf. We're talking about a Golf, which lots of people in the U.K can afford, versus a car not very many can. I'm not suggesting anyone who could afford a brand new Porsche 911 S would go no, I'm off down the VW dealership to buy a hatchback. I was just pointing out a blue collar hero with only the very very lightest of tweaking can give a bloody nose to a thoroughbred sportscar costing nearly 3 times as much. That's brilliant, everyone loves the underdog. A mapped Golf R shocks the hell out of a lot of very expensive cars away from lights! Especially when it's wet. The Golf can also do those times on a rainy day, even that Porsche can't and they have huge traction because rear engine.

Yeah, love the new RS. Looks like a fabulous machine for the money again, a real driver's car with most likely killer residual values if the previous Focus RS is anything to go by.
stave84
11 Mar 16 #67
Utter Lunacy. My TTS is producing 350bhp & 400ftlbs & frankly im wishing it made LESS. Touch the gas on a corner/damp road & traction control system kicks in. Straight line yes lots of fun, but requires a LOT of attention to drive. Before the map it was very much point and shoot as it were. Now it's mental. And LOUD.
