I am almost certain this deal will get smoking HOT!
Thanks!

Though it seems to me the A4 saloon of less than £6000 of £179.93 incl VAT monthly rental
£1619.37 incl VAT initial rental seems a better deal with 10000 milage.

110bhp from a 1.2l petrol is impressive, but this car is still underpowered. Personally I'm not a fan of lease deals so not voting either way

Not that impressive really, daihatsu managed 100bhp from a 1.0 turbo petrol nearly 30 years ago in the charade gti, was also a hell of a lot quicker than this too.

works out at £7.08 per day for a decent brand new car. Try and find a hire car for that ! Good deal.
androoski
1 Mar 16 1 #6
It won't be the BHP, it will be the torque that will determine whether this car will feel underpowered, and the 175Nm will be fine in a granny hatch like this.

Even though I despise Audis, this is a hot deal any way I look at it.

Crappy deal compared to the A4 offer last month.

What's with the 110bhp? Even Ford can squeeze 140 out of a 1 litre.
ultrak3wl
1 Mar 16 1 #18
Well this is supposed to be a hot deals site, unfortunately I am not the sort of person to pay 180 quid for nothing lol. Is it like "joining fee" at gyms where they don't seriously expect you to pay it, just something to be negotiated away?
brooky_agn
1 Mar 16 11 #19
Not voting as I wouldn't lease. Financially I just don't think any of these deals are good. £5k for car for two years is expensive. I had a nearly new BMW for 2 years then sold it and it cost £2k in depreciation and only stuck two new rear tyres on it. So to me a three year old car is massively better value to keep than new and it's still pretty much brand new?!?

Anyhow if this makes you happy and you want to spend the money then in your eyes it is good value so I get that. Just not for me.

Which model, age and mileage? I'd love to know which nearly new BMW loses only a grand a year.
bluepete1976 to brooky_agn
2 Mar 16 #50
3 year old expensive cars lose more than £1000 per year unless you don't drive them. My BMW has lost 3k in 18 months which is making these deals sound ok
crazydadz to brooky_agn
2 Mar 16 #51
Good deal in my opinion. I'd be interested to know if there's anything similar in 5dr auto pls.
A comparison can only be made if comparing like for like.
Compare this deal with a brand new car (not 3 yr old!), which will lose same/more in depreciation as soon as it's driven off the forecourt.
Plus, it's interest free and good for people who can't afford a 'nearly new bmw'.
I agree that it's better value than to lease, if you buy a car after its lost the main bulk of its value, ie. 2-3 yrs old. But then you're not getting a brand new car. You don't know how it's been driven, you don't know who's been sat in it, and done whatever else in it, you can't guarantee the servicing's been on time, etc etc. With a brand new car you don't have those worries.
bman to brooky_agn
2 Mar 16 #52
Which car specifically? I find this hard to believe. Everyone seems to buy low and sell high on the internet. The rest of us must be thick. A nearly new 3 series would lose around £6-10k in 2 years for example. 'Nearly new' means less than 2 years old max with very low mileage to me.
HipposRule to brooky_agn
2 Mar 16 #57
Just put 2 tyres on it - do you just leave it on a drive even allowing for 12k miles pa (which, to me is ridiculously low)
pivotalgubbins
1 Mar 16 #21
It has to be paid, there is an admin fee on almost every lease deal posted. Factor it in and decide whether it is a deal for you.
JohnnyUtah
1 Mar 16 2 #23
Pity the administration department if they have to do £180 worth of work for each car.
Robj1

I think the title is misleading, it's not £155 total including fees. It's £215pcm average when including fees.
ultrak3wl
1 Mar 16 #25
Sounds like **** to me. When I sign up for something like this I deserve a new customer discount. Unless it's a renewal, then I deserve a loyalty discount for being existing customer. Seriously, whenever they tell you oh it's a standard fee, tell them politely you expect to get something when you pay a fee, so what is it.
brooky_agn
1 Mar 16 1 #26
Always worth a go for sure. These companies work on such tiny margins they might only make the admin fee on each new deal. As an enabler for you that's then a fair deal I think.

1 Mar 16 #29
Dont forget with lease their is no interest payment. Many people cant buy a car for outright cash and have interest costs on top. Also if you have cash I can make it work better for me than tied up in a car. It helps cashflow if you can put money on elsewhere.

The chances are that if you do buy a car - used or new - from a dealer as opposed to one of these plans, they will offer you their super finance package. These too include an admin fee, often at each end of the deal so that they in effect charge you for being good and paying everything off in order.

Just confirmed my suspicion, thought a 1.2 litre in such a car would be nonsense, in the a1 maybe you could get away with it.

I am with you on this - but must be a BMW owners thing!
I have always bought 10+ year old cars / high mileage and not had the worry of them getting damaged in car parks, minimal depreciation and honestly I could not afford this deal - I drive a 730D with all the luxury's you could hope for as standard / but presumably have to pay more money in repair costs as the car is not new and requires more maintenance but in my opinion costs less than the depreciation would

2 Mar 16 1 #67
Well you were lucky. A friend of mine had a BMW 520D, bought just out of guarantee and the ECU gave up the ghost within a few months. He managed to get a large discount on a used ECU but it was still over £1000, the repair came to around £1500. Obviously he may have been unlucky, but you cannot discount major problems on any used car which will put you massively out of pocket.

2 Mar 16 #69
It's valid point. I've always bought my cars and sold them. The depreciation has been around 2k a year but I've used the car more than 10k a year, therefore it's better for me. Everyone circumstances are different. Still cheap for a brand new car and if you want to impress your neighbours

boostii
2 Mar 16 1 #72
Yes, to be honest this is a bit of a poor man's wannabe Audi, I would want to spec' it up with bigger engine, metallic paint, bigger alloys, leather interior etc or if not, just get all that on a non-premium brand for the same money and take it on the chin from the badge snobs.

However, for all those saying 1.2 engine is too small they are living in the past and are only remembering their mum's fiestas and novas. F1 cars only got 1.6 litres these days. For a little run around like this deal car a small torquey turbo petrol is a good choice, 1.4T would be fine, 1.2T only a little bit sluggish.
newsgroupmonkey
2 Mar 16 2 #73
Just to give you some figures on the A3 (if that's what you wanted), £8k depreciation in the first 2 years.
A3 Depreciation calculator

I'd agree if you were to wait 3 months for your top-end BMW or Merc, your depreciation would be relatively low.
BMW 1 series (which is the closest to an A3) has similar depreciation. In fact, as the old shape is now on its way out, I would expect it would be even more. The A3 is due a facelift imminently.
vtec
2 Mar 16 #74
please could somebody explain how a pcp works. I don't like dealing with interest but have read is interest based. I thought you are paying depreciation and in end you have a choice to give back or keep by paying off GFV.
brooky_agn
2 Mar 16 #75
Well yeah to be fair I work at home so prob only 5k miles a year. It was 5 when I sold it with only 32k on it so not comparing so well am I. Also bought it super cheap so maybe just was a bit lucky.
Evostance
2 Mar 16 #76
This is lease, not PCP.
It's essentially hiring a car over a contracted period.

You pay an initial fee, plus a cost per month, plus an admin fee. Then at the end you give the car back, continue on a rolling monthly contract, or establish a new lease on the car.

PCP is where you pay off the depreciation plus interest, and then give the car back at the end where you get to keep the difference between the estimated value and the actual resale value. Most people use this difference to as a deposit for their next car.

It's commission. I used to work for a lease company and the Admin Fee formed part of the profit. Looking at this deal, they have removed most/all of the profit from the lease so this is 'their bit'. Usually negotiable so still worth asking, depends how much they need your business
lepreporn
2 Mar 16 3 #81
You can't compare buying a nearly new car to leasing a brand new one. Firstly you have to have the capital available to buy it in the first place. If you don't, you need a loan which will still cost you in interest. You then have to rely on the car not taking a larger loss in the 2-3 years that you have it. Plus, you were lucky, but some would end up replacing parts outside of warranty. When you add it up, leasing CAN be the perfect way for someone to get into a brand new car. It just doesn't work for everyone.

Yeah, but that Muppet with the Golf R will still slay you for meat. 1.2 will pop you up to the shops like a good'un, even if a few steep hills and you're late. But what if there are 6 cars following a milk float and you want to blow the lot away before the next bend? It's not going to happen is it? Or a Porsche comes up next to you on the slip road down to the motorway?
