Most times I've checked the batch/lot number, they've all been the same. I think they have a high enough turnover of produce to not really worry about it. Plus it help prevents food waste imo. Stick a date on and everyone just looks for the longest date. A carrot's a carrot, it's either good enough to eat or it's not. At the stroke of midnight after the BB date, it doesn't explode with mould.

Are these the normal carrots or the smaller chantenay ones? Last time when carrots were on Super 6 back in the summer, it was the smaller chantenay ones, not the full sized ones

All you have to do is look up the Julian Calendar for 2016. There are daily and weekly versions.

By the time you work out the use by date they will have gone off. Aldi are ok for some things but fruit and veg ain't one of them .. Very dubious use by date policy .

That is because the other supermarkets fool the consumer into thinking lasting longer means better quality when in reality its because they stuff it full of preservatives, I can see why on one hand but it shows how naive the general public is.
When I buy fruit and veg from a proper market it goes off rather quickly and isnt as pretty as supermarket stuff, but tastes a hell of a lot better.

The reality is that every other major retailer puts easy to read use by dates on stuff . Why do producers have to change to supply Aldi ? Yeah it eliminates waste in the shop , because you end up buying it and chucking it away at home. Funny enough carrots have a clear use by date .. Nearly every other veg doesn't .

Best before date, a carrot wouldn't have a use by date. Best before dates are there to be ignored imo

I've always found Aldi fruit & veg fine, you have to take a bit of care when selecting but it hits the spot! Thanks OP I'll be popping to Aldi on payday

Fruit and Veg is where Aldi aren't as good and need to improve. It definitely goes off quicker. I wonder if its the storage in-store. Its odd, as with Chicken I find them the best, lasts the longest, so its not a distribution problem as such.

24 Feb 16#34
Just for the record a best before date means exactly that. It's at its best before but can still be used after that date. A use by date means it must be used before that date..

Agree. I am still using up some potatoes I brought at Aldi for Xmas. I am amazed they are still ok. So a plus for Aldi.

I asked a staff member why are they like that he said they had been in cold storage more like a freezer. I don't buy Aldi veg anymore as it never lasts long. I think it depends on what area you live in but my area the veg is not worth buying
