8gb RAM rather than 6gb, and A8 processor rather than A6 ... might be worth a look? Typing on it now and very pleased with it.

Certainly do not want to say this is a bad price for what it is but the OP details are misleading on a couple of points....
Firstly as HedgyHoggy has said, it is a refurb which has not been listed in the heading.
Secondly, to state it has 'very high specs' when it has a entry level CPU from 2014 is speculative.

What are these refurbs like? It says manufacturer refurb, so can you tell in any way its been used?

I've had a couple of refurbished laptops from Argos for family members, including one of a very similar specification to this.
Both looked brand new although they're not supplied in the original packaging. Argos have A and B grade refurbished laptops, A comes with 12 months warranty and B just 6.
Both upgraded to Windows 10 during the initial setup (it asked if I wanted to) without any problems.
I'm probably going to be getting a 3rd one through there soon enough.
The CPU in this actually gets quite well rated by NoteBookCheck and seemed to run quite cool in the Acer that I set up. It scores around the same as the lower end u series i3s.

There was a light scratch on the lid, and a stuck pixel (which I can't get rid of unfortunately), otherwise no signs of use. HDD showed 40 hours of use although I'd assume a bit of that is for the initial software installation. Overall I'm really pleased with it...

When you get a refurb always do basic tests like left/right speaker tests on you tube. Better to find any problems and get the unit returned as soon as possible. I have had a few refurbs from Argos, all have been good quality except one tablet with one broken speaker. I did not have a problem returning the unit for a refund.
The Toshiba looks like a better deal to me. Nice find Noctu.

I ordered the Toshiba last week and it came with a faulty screen (horizontal green line appearing when screen tilted at certain angles). I've returned it and ordered another, hopefully this was a one off as I've got an HP refurb that I got from Curry's which I've had about 2 years now and it's been spot on. I should imagine it's hit and miss dependeing on the reason for the original return.

Got one last year from argos eBay, not in original packaging but otherwise mint and not a mark on it. Took days to update windows 8 and then to windows 10 and during update it was pretty much unusable, which may be why it was returned originally. It's fine now on windows 10.

Would this be a good buy? I'll mainly use it for browsing the internet, word, and watching a few movies. Also, looking to transfer video footage from camcorder

Entry level CPU from 2014, to state high specs is speculative.
