Interesting we booked from Luton airport on the 11th for £69 return, got a studio flat for 7 days / £184 ( service charge included ) and £77 for a car since it's just £49 more on transport ... But we get the car for 7 days

Regarding children's activities I would agree with comments. There are no sandy beaches so this restricts you. However there is an aqua park close to the airport, catamaran trips to find dolphins and whales and the Christiano Ronaldo museum if that floats your boat. There are cinemas in Funchal with most films in English and the cable car that is a good experience. Combine these activities with a hotel swimming pool or two and you could manage a week in Madiera.

Weather can be odd sometimes. When the sun is coming up the cloud is over the sea and when sun is high the cloud seems to move over the island. The weird thing is if you drive through the tunnels to the valley of the nuns in the centre of the island it is bright sunshine though a spooky circular opening in the clouds. Nothing for kids to do though and the barking dogs which are all inbred with funny teeth drive you mad. I will definitely go again when my boys have grown up.

the weather should not be bad, certainly better than in Glasgow . The accuweather predicts 3 days with 'occasional' or 'little rain' and the 'real feel' temperature about 20 degrees thorough the stay. Cooler evenings and nights (13-14 degrees)

Not bad price at all, shame the forecast is only 16/17c and rain that week.

Depending on the age of your kids may be a big factor in going to Madeira.
Its a beautiful island, Ive been a few times but for hiking in the mountains and levadas.
I dont think there is much else there for kids, no decent beaches.I use a hire car although you can use local buses but they are not frequent to other parts of the island.
