I'm well over 16, but enjoy ready salted and (rarely) salt & vinegar. With you 100% on the prawn cocktail; and yet when I was a kid I did enjoy them. I think you're right.

Ready Salted really are "pointless" crisps - why would you buy crsisps that have no flavour other than salt? You're right that they're bizarrely popular because they're stuffed in most "variety" multipacks and they're the only (lack of) flavour I actually have to give away to other people.
BTW, Worcester sauce and pickled onion are two other flavours I'd put on my favourites list.

Running a tuck shop at a local club, I was surprised to find the most popular flavours for crips are:
Prawn Cocktail
Ready Salted
Salt and Vinegar
I would have put all three of those at the bottom of my list.
These are kids aged 10-16, maybe it varies with age.
